kinda mid. I love miss madeline but this was not my fav, I know it was onlypages but I felt like there was no real movement
did not make me cry I would read anything written by Madeline Miller, especially if its Greek mythology, but this short story really was tiny and the ending was very abrupt.
Too abrupt for my tastes, although I didnt care much for Philoctetes, I already knew he would be left behind on the way to Troy, but I expected Millers take to be a little more tied up, Although I guess you could say the ending of this book was as quick as the venom coursing through his veins,.nothing new nothing special Intense but very short, It could have had more about the relationship of Philocetes and Heracles, ill read anything she writes I guess Miller's shorts are not for me, It was okay comparing to Galatea, which I didn't like at all, I enjoyed the parallel between Heracles and Philoctetes, but that's all there is to it, A short story published in a Waterstones Special Edition of The Song of Achilles amp 'We Love This Book',
About the Author
Madeline Miller is an American novelist, whose debut novel was The Song of Achilles,
Miller spent ten years writing the book while she worked as a Latin
and Greek teacher, The novel, set in Greece, tells the story of the love between Achilles and Patroclus,
The Song of Achilles won the Orange Prize for Fiction, making Miller the fourth debut novelist to win the prize, ok Whether it be a fulllength novel or just ten pages, Madeline Miller always knows how to write stories that make me want to cry,
“But what, really, could he have said That he begged his friends to end his agony, and they would not, That he died badly, and the oily stench of his flesh hung in the air for days, That men worshipped him like a god, but no one mourned, ” De todas las historias de Madeline Miller, esta para mí es la que menos me gustó,
Like Patroclus in The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller has done a fantastic job of casting light upon a more minor character in Greek mythology, I didnt know much in terms of Philoctetes, and this story, if anything, inspired me to do more intensive research on his history and background, The dialogue and timeframe jumping around did get confusing at times, but it was overall wellwritten, below average for miss miller A short, quick story that packed a punch at the end, I didn't know anything about this myth so I was shocked and surprised,
That men worshipped him like a god, but no one mourned,
About Heracles
This woman paints with her words, Even if they are less they paint such a vivid picture, I see entire scenes dancing in front of my eyes, read this but nothing went in my brain ajbdjand
“the shore was empty, the ships gone, only ash piles were left to prove they had been there at all, ”
new madeline miller novel when
tragic and tragically brief, heracles bow is a companion story to sitelinkthe song of achilles.
despite its brevity, it packs an emotional punch as it explores the bond between another greek hero and his former companion,

Super short story which left me confused more than anything lol Madeline Miller is always fun to read and this fun short story is no different.
Its similar in length to Galatea but definitely shorter and definitely less impactful, It doesnt try to do anything special, just a short glimpse into Philoctetes and his place in the Trojan war as well as a couple Hercules cameos, Theres absolutely nothing wrong with that either, its a good time and nothing more,.This is my least favourite piece of writing by Madeline Miller, The narration didnt feel like her style, The story was not that different from the myth except that Philoctetes didnt like Odysseus, The story is sad but not that good, That was way too short !! I expected more tbh Madeline Miller was born in Boston and grew up in New York City and Philadelphia, She attended Brown University, where she earned her BA and MA in Classics, For the last ten years she has been teaching and tutoring Latin, Greek and Shakespeare to high school students, She has also studied at the University of Chicagos Committee on Social Thought, and in the Dramaturgy department at Yale School of Drama, where she focused on the adaptation of classical texts to modern forms.
She currently lives in Cambridge, MA, where she teaches and writes, The Song of Achilles is her first novel, .
