Get It Now Cassy Und Das Haus Am Meer Authored By Marilyn Cram Donahue Available As Bound Copy
wow, this was so much fun!
I actually picked this book up years ago from a library discard pile and had totally forgotten about it until I ended up needing it for a challenge.
But once I finally cracked it open, I laughed through a large portion of it! Aunt Mathilda was absolutely hilarious, and she had me rolling from the beginning, even if I didn't understand what was going on any more than the kids did.
But it wasn't long before you began to see hints of what she was up to, amid all her random comments and absentmindedness.
. . I also really liked Hal and the great way he was portrayed, even with Cass's initial embarrassment over his disability, Easily my secondfavorite character in the story, and could absolutely have been first if Aunt Mathilda wasn't so fantastic, I also loved the superrealistic but also sympathetic treatment of Cass and her brothers, Yes, they were pains sometimes, but seeing their growth over even just a short time span was great, and I never felt that they were over the top or unrealistic.
Also, I loved that the crisis at the end didn't happen for the reasons it might have, and I really liked the way it all worked out.
And the strong faith thread was an important aspect without feeling shoved in or out of place, which I also very much appreciated.
So glad I took a chance on it!
Contentvarious bad behavior, including lying, stealing, and sneaking out corrected arguments and bad
attitudes among siblings, including talk about "hating" each other not corrected outright, since this is mostly in internal dialogue, but changed by the end This was a light, fun read and would be perfect for middle grade readers ages.
It has a cast of bright, colorful characters and a plot that keeps you reading to find out what happens next.
Some of the descriptions are amusingly kidfriendly, There are lessons learned and light ponderings about God and love that are portrayed in a gentle, not heavyhanded way, Theres also a good intro into what it might be like to be hearing impaired like the character Hal, While spending the summer with her aunt, Cass must decide whether to risk making friends and also to choose between a popular group that offers friendship at a price and an unpopular boy the others reject.
