didnt understand how the H would want the h to do all the housework and cooking as soon as her fathers funeral,
Firstly, she is new to the country, nor had she ever cooked or cleaned so how the heck can he expect her to prepare a meal for guest.

Atleast the author should have waited till they marry, But it seems the author is too eager to start the drama, The h is more like his housekeeper rather than wife, I dont like heroes who dont give heroines the luxuries,

Also the heros coldness and indifference towards the h was too much, I think he really was an old man at heart, He actually behaved like an strict adult with the h, Oh no, why do I keep reading these silly romances Again, typical storyline, same rehashed characters, just another similar story, I managed to finish it but it was a bit of a slog, The premise wasn't too stupid, her dad left her and him his vineyard provided they marry, H isish and she'sand he claims not to be attracted and she dislikes and fears him and finds him physically repulsive, That changes of course.

If the MOC is reasonable for the Harlequin value of reasonable then what's the problem I can understand how she feels, She doesn't like him, he won't talk to her, he treats her like a housekeeper/disliked sister, but over time good old propinquity and curiosity get to work.
He's harder to understand. He'syears older than she, he is in love with her and treats her like furniture, Sorry, don't buy it. Also he had affairs even after he supposedly fell for her,

The worst of the story is the OM and how she acts with him, The OM just happens to come visit twice, on the only two days H is gone Sure, And he makes many very personal remarks and she doesn't ask him to leave She's lonely and he's friendly and flattering but if someone is that nosy and overlyfamiliar she could have used some of the backbone she had with H to kick him out.
Of course then we we wouldn't have had a story,

The OW was also rather ridiculous, no real place in the story except to get her to see H as a man, Pace is slow and the connection between characters is weak, Well, I got what I was looking for out of this one, The H is one hostile dude, Though, I actually thought at least half of his hostility was warranted due to the h's attitude towards him in the beginning and her attitude towards what was expected of her.
And didn't she go fromtowith those cooking skills!!

There was a major bad scene where A lot of people will hate this book for that one scene alone,

There was a "oh, I didn't see that one coming" twist at the end which I enjoyed, And I thought the groveling at the end very satisfying,

If you like reading about very grumpy alpha males and

you have a strong stomach for the big mother of all manwoman scenes, then you'll like this one.
It does pass over it rather quickly, if that helps, But again with that hard limit, it might ruin it for you, Forced marriage story after h/H are left two halves the French winery after heroines father dies, HalfFrench, halfEnglish heroine had only met her father four days before he died, Heroine isand hero is,

Hero is stern and exasperated with the heroines “innocence, ” Heroine is “repulsed” by heros “obvious masculinity, ”

Oh, these vintages, Heroine goes from having never cooked a meal to serving a fullblown Christmas turkey dinner two months later, And this is inbefore You Tube videos could show you how to do everything, How did we cook before the internet Now I find myself looking for comments at the end of recipes in cookbooks, LOL

Since this Anne Mather, there is:
A forced seduction when the heroine realizes she loves her husband and the hero is disgusted with himself and thus creates even more of a barrier.

An OM and OW for drama,
A few twists at the end with the heros background revealed,

Naksed and Jenny have more details in their reviews,
I like the forced marriage trope and the husband secretly being in love with his own wife, A delightful classic Anne Mather HP, I LOVE the title of this book, The classic HP's have much lovelier titles than today's modern versions,

Ryan's father died leaving her half of his vineyard on the condition that she marry his partner, Alain, Alain is twenty one years older than nineteen year old Ryan and the difference in age is a stark contrast between them, They agree to a marriage of convenience, but hints of feelings start interfering and that led to hostility between them,

This was a great angsty book with all the complications of such a huge gap in age, One thing I just don't understand is why a forty year old man would tell his nineteen year old bride that she's being childish, Ummmm, well yeah. She is a child! Still, it was a delightful read,

Anne Mather wowed me again, Her characters are always so damned complicated, The jaded older hero with the young innocent ingénue who can't help but fall in love with a man old enough to be her father, Ms. Mather doesn't make it seem seedy or wrong, She somehow makes it work and leaves us with a wonderful story, مسافر بلا طريق

,stars. Oh my Lord. THIS. BOOK. MADE. ME. SO. DEPRESSED.

I was in a perpetual state of annoyance with the hero, and it left me with no will to live, Alain sucked it right out of me,

Imagine the blasphemy, Thatyearold man sounded like a bitter, cynical, condescending, reallifeyearold man,

Glad to announce this is my first introduction to the world of Anne Mather's books,

PLOT

Ryan h and Alain H, being complete strangers, are bound by the will of Ryan's late father who divided the inheritance evenly between these twohis daughter and a man who is to take charge of his businessvineyard, on condition that they get married.

Ayear age difference, dissimilar backgrounds and outlook on marriage and family make Alain and Ryan's life together, filled with misunderstandings and failed expectations, hard to adjust to.

THE BAD

Until the very end of the booka typical time for heartwarming confessions between the main characters in HP booksnothing indicates that the hero has any feelings for the heroine.
Alain treats Ryan like his housemaid at best and an annoying child bride at worst,

To add more insult to the injury, this overgrown manchild becomes even more insufferable after raping sleeping with his child bride, He starts to behave like an entitled cunt in earnest, and here I thought he is just a man going through his midlife crisis,

The morning evening after, not only does Alain suggest that Ryan move out of HER OWN FUCKING HOUSE,

but he also has the audacity to threaten her and say "I will make you pay if you stay" after she refuses to leave HER LATE DAD'S HOUSE THAT'S RIGHTFULLY and LEGALLY HERS.

Alain, look at yourself: you're covered in birdshit

spooked by SEX and your own violent tendencies,

Grow up, youyearold manchild molester,

THE GOOD

The funny thing is that after she leaves him out of her own free will some time later, scared to confess she's pregnant with his baby, the mans searches for her frantically, beats her English friend the book takes place in France, and the OM happens to be her compatriot to a pulp out of jealousy, drinks himself into a stupor and then finally mans up and finds her in Paris.

The lastpages where Alain confesses to having been obsessed with Ryan alreadyyears prior to their first meeting and marriage he fell in love while he was spying on her at her dad's request are ridiculously endearing.

Too little, too late, though, I didn't give a single fuck at that point, Readers are supposed to be shown his feelings throughout the story, not told about them in the final dialogue between the MCs in the LAST CHAPTER OF THE DAMN BOOK.

For such a good number of wtf moments the book gives, its overall intensity is too low to be truly memorable,

At least the way the author wrapped things up placated me, A little. Sorta. Kinda.

P, S. the housemaid poking her nose into their PRIVATE business and spreading gossip about their sex life around the village is myth reason, The fact that she offers herself to the hero as soon as she realizes the heroine didn't put out for him,

One minute the bitch utters the words of consolation to the heroine, the next she offers her body as a consolation prize to the hero, SHE MADE ME SCREAM. complimentary derogatory What a multifunctional little handmaid, .
