for me, this book, Confusing the way the book was written and the mystery wasn't complete, I picked up this book during a MPH sale near my office,
Oh my gosh, I have such mix feeling about this book, I mean seriously where do I even begin!!!!!
The book is named after the big quirky giant yet the story ismostly about Glenn.
Not saying that that is a bad thing because Glenn is an interesting character, There are many other interesting characters in this book that I will highlight as I go,
Glenn is a cool artistic kid with a big heart, I like how he doesnt judge people even though they are weird, And also liked the fact that he fell for an odd ball girl rather than the popular bitch in school,
The thing about this book is that honestly, the giant is not all that super interesting at first, I mean yeah he was a page turner in the first chapter, but then it fell back to Glenn and his life while Harlequin became an additional odd ball character that appears occasionally without much character development.
You will be very curious about this giant but the suspense was dragged a little too long that you eventually forget about Harlequins mystery, I mean seriously even after you readchapters there is little you know about Harlequin, And way too many things happens in the book that Harlequin just falls back as an supplementary reminder of who the book was named after.
Beefwits is by far the worse villain ever, OMG every time he does a bad boy scene in front of Glenn he makes a complete fool of himself, So many of those scene made me laugh out loud in public that people in turn looked at me weird,
Laura and her sis, they dont really stand out much to me, Their characters are just somewhat familiar like Ive seen it all before, Baz is a deaf nerd and the kind of friend that you can depend on is even though he is not much of a talker but you know he is faithful.
So why did I take so long to finish this book Because I felt like the author was trying to squeeze in so much about Glenn and his life, that it felt like I was living his life chapter by chapter.
It dragged on too much, and like I said earlier he kinda overshadowed Harlequin, I also dont quite like the writing style, it was rather confusing and the way the sentences were constructed made me confused a few time.
And that meant rereading certain text over and over again,
I also felt like the author tried to cram so many writing styles in this book, I eventually gave up halfway and started to fast read usually means I read without really taking in the story up until I came towards the end of the book, maybe about lastchapters and thats when the story started to pick up speed.
Partwas better and that is when you really get to know what happened and who Harlequin is, and the whole twist in the end was surprising.
After the climax I felt the author decided to cram even more “character building” and it felt rushed and forced at least to me because the first half the book, there was a steady slow pace of storytelling that dont have much progress chapter by chapter.
Then towards the end everything was happening way too fast and strained,
I admit the book surprised me at the end, Mixture of feeling: impressed sorrow and content, It has awesome story to tell but the story telling was not done properly and that may have put off a lot of readers, So Im still about/about this book, A compelling
debut novel about first love and an unlikely friendship, set against the backdrop of the breathtaking Cumbrian landscape,
