Iles is definitely one of my favorite suspense authors, I've read many books by him, He creates stories with a great pace and some wild, yet creative, twists, I like that he keeps it interesting, I will read anything he writes,

Now with that out of the way, this one wasn't my favorite, I did round up tobecause I really wanted to see how it came together at the end.
I could not have predicted the ending in a million years, He does suspense so well,

The characters, however, drove me a little crazy, The victims all suffered from an acute case of stupidity, Sometimes that is the only thing that kept the story moving, that is never my favorite, Even when characters suffer from this, I like to understand the "why", But here, I completely missed that part, The "why" didn't feel very compelling, But stillstar worthy for me, From my blog

What a fast rush of reading to the heart pounding beat, For many this will be a one seat read, I really enjoyed this one, a packed action thriller, The whole time the images were in my mind, a definite movie like book, I should have known, it is a movie, the title is Trapped, now I must go watch it.
I feel like I may have seen it because the story felt to 'real' to me, deja vu like.

The saying it is to good to be true always rings correct at some point.
Why do criminals never know when to stop, that greed will get them every time,Criminals pull off a great crime but onlywas in charge, talk about scare tactics to keep loyalty.

I find children in books are always the ones that steal the story, I loved Abby. She was so genuine as ayear old, her fear, creative thoughts, naivety, that innocence you have to love about children.

I enjoyed how Greg Iles joined all the stories into crashing climax, There were definite unbelievable scenes, the kind you love even though you know it is all bull so for me this still gets a high rating, for others that may give them a lower rating.

Greg Iles is new to me but I look forward to reading many more, any recommendations Wow! What a roller coaster of a thrill ride! This book had me hooked from the first page.
Would have given it five, but the ending seemed sort of abrupt, I would have liked to see what happened with the kidnappers and the family in the long run.
. This book bursts out of the title page with a tightly set up kidnapping plot, It's my quirk not to lay out the plot of a book in my reviews it's information found easily elsewhere, and I don't ever want to put a kink in the journey of discovery that an author has so carefully crafted.
Thus, we are left with whether or not I liked the book, and whether it is a worthwhile read in my very humble opinion.

This one kept me turning virtual pages for about threequarters of the story, At that point the story became bogged down in itself, and jumped the shark so outrageously that it lost me completely.
I no longer cared enough to finish it,
The number of awarded this title by others suggests that I am off the mark in my assessment of it.
Fair enough. I just thought that "Hours" felt more like, months by the time that I set it aside, I may be unfair to this book because I read it shortly after rereading the excellent sitelinkBlack Cross and this may have lost some in the comparison.
I do remember it as a decent enough thriller, but the competition for those are fierce and therefore the mid rating.
This book started off fairly well, but unfortunately started going downhill somewhere toward the middle and never

recovered.
I don't agree with the opinion that it's poorly written Iles does seem to actually have some talent, at least in the sense that he can string words together in a way that doesn't make me want to gouge out my eyes with a melonballer, but that may simply be the effect of comparison with other writers in the genre.
I do, however, agree with my sister, who recommended this book to me with the caveat that the plot was glaringly contrived and more than a little convoluted.

My list of issues with this book would span several pages, but since I have neither the time nor the inclination to hash them all out, I'll stick to a few major points.

First of all, I don't buy the McDills' change of heart, Another kidnapping could have taken place at any time, so it doesn't really jive for me that the medical convention was the impetus for this guy to finally go to the authorities.
And even if he did truly have a sudden attack of conscience a year after the fact, I don't believe that he and his wife would go to the FBI field office, or whatever, at nearly midnight.
The morning, yes, maybe the afternoon, or even the next morning, but the middle of the night Who does that I feel this was a poorly contrived method of getting the FBI involved, despite Jennings's reluctance to go to them for help, and without messing up the author's carefully constructed timeline.

And speaking of the FBI, I don't even know why Iles bothered to bring them into the story in the first place.
A more inept, useless bunch of people I have never seen, I'm not sure they even did anything of value in this story besides show up at the end to pick up the pieces.
But see, here's the thing: the FBI are professionals, I have as much inherent distrust for the government and all its agencies as the next girl whose father was a Vietnam veteran who got exposed to Agent Orange and then sent home to be a guinea pig for the VA for the rest of his life, but I can concede that the Feds are highlytrained experts and know what they're doing in situations like this.
Or at least, more than the rest of us, And I do not believe for a second that some flyboy anesthesiologist and a former nurse turned Junior League housewife could do a better job.
Nor do I believe that the FBI would have allowed them to try, No way in hell would Jennings have really walked out of that bank with the money without: a a wire b a tracking device c a Fedapproved plan and d his full cooperation.
In fact, he'd have been lucky to walk out of the bank at all after pulling a gun on an agent.
That's just. No. I've heard of a writer asking you to suspend your disbelief, but not asking you to bury it under a rock at the back of a dark cave and pretend it never existed.

And on that note, I come to my final point: the ending, What the hell was that There is no way that would have worked in real life without a lot of people getting very seriously injured or dead.
A plane lands on a busy highway, blows up, a car crashes, and three people get shot, but only one person dies.
Of a broken neck. Via retard. Gimme a freakin' break. And would a little resolution have been too much to ask "They get their kid back" does not clear up all the dangling plotlines.
Did Karen survive her gunshot wound What happened to Cheryl What about Huey Did Will go to federal prison for taking off from the runway without authorization, which is probably considered an act of terrorism in the post/era Inquiring minds want to know.

So, to conclude, this book had a lot of potential, at least toward the beginning, and it probably could have been a really spectacular thriller if Iles had taken the time to think things through and work out the kinks, but in the end it simply suffers from far too many plotholes and contrivances to make it viable.
I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really hard up for something to read, .
