this as one of my book club book choices for the students, I enjoyed reading it and like that the main character is a girl, Good descriptions of life along Lake Michigan with the Native American Indians, Gloria Whelan does her research well, her books are rich in history,though her books are fiction, they are based on true stories.
I have enjoyed these three books she has written, with settings in, and the early pioneers settling in Michigan, and the Indians in the area that were driven out.
One family had the courage and kindness to befriend an Indian family,in need, Libby Mitchell cant believe her luck! In, her pioneer family decides to move northnear her best friend, Fawn, who lives with the Ottawa tribe.
But the girls happiness at reuniting is shortlived, Greedy men want to cheat Fawns people out of their land and put all of the forest in danger, Now Libby and Fawn must think of a way to stop thembefore the woods that they call home are lost forever,
