Hogan's Heroes is more popular now than ever before, especially in Germany, where it has become a surprising cult hit, In this book, most of the show's and behindthescenes personnel share their memories and reflect on the series' enduring popularity,
Interesting behind the scenes information, Deductingstar for the error stating Howard Caine was in Our Gang inas Wheezer, Bobby Hutchins was the ONLY Wheezer, fromto, Also, Our Gang never filmed in Nashville, As a fan of Hogan's Heroes since I was young this book gave me some great insight into the show I was unaware of, I loved the details and comments about the show and cast, The history and info on each actor touched me, So many were Jewish and escaped Nazi Germany but still did the show, Tells you a lot about the character of each actor, This is a must read for any fan, The book gave good insight as to how the series started and was produced, interesting background info.
Interesting background info on the series and actors, Well worth the read especially since the series is now being played on TVLand, I watched way too much TV growing up as a kid, and I seldom passed up an opportunity to watch “Hogans Heroes”, I still watch reruns of the show today, and while Ill admit its not the most brilliant TV series in the world, its a bit of mindless fun, Every once in a while, Id wonder a little about how the show came to be or about the actors Id see on screen, but I resigned myself to not ever getting answers to my questions, save for the usual semi reliable sources on the Internet.
I was surprised to find that someone had in fact written a book about the show!
“Hogans Heroes Behind the Scenes at Stalag!” covers the history of the
show, from the creation of the original concept for the show, the people behind the scenes responsible for creating it writers, directors, and the shows producer who kept it all going for the six seasons andshows that made it on the air in addition to many of the actors who brought the characters to life.
The book discusses topics like the initial reaction to the concept of a show about a comedy set in Nazi Germany, the publics response to the show it was a top ten show for its first two seasons and was even a cult hit in Germany!, the awards the show won and was nominated for Werner Klemperer actually won two Emmys for his portrayal of Colonel Klink! and incudes a full episode guide to the show.
The book even covers the merchandise that was sold based on the show there wasnt much, recurring plot lines, and the reason the show was finally cancelled it wasnt about low ratings or the publics reaction to the concept.
Brenda Scott Royce has put together a pretty thorough and interesting book on the series that includes comments from the primary members of the cast who were still around at the time the book was written, as well as folks who worked behind the cameras.
Brendas even included publicity photos from episodes of the show and a page of the parody published in MAD Magazine, Brendas done a good job of sticking to the facts related to the show given the odd circumstances behind the death of Bob Crane, it would have been easy to be lurid.
Shes obviously a fan of the show, but she avoids seeing the show through rosecolored glasses,
Obviously, if you dont care for “Hogans Heroes”, this isnt the book for you, Also, Its been aboutyears since the book was written, and I wish Brenda would write and publish an updated version of the book to acknowledge the passing of the remaining members of the cast and crew.
But overall, its a pretty good book and a quick read, and Im glad its available as an ebook so that a fan can have easy access to the book if they want more information on an episode theyre watching.
Dont settle for knowing nothing NOTHING! about a classic bit of TV get a copy and learn a few things about the show! Interesting amp Enjoyable
A good overview of the series with good behind the scenes notes and insights on the actors.
