Hawk/Caleb Sax, a man torn between two worlds,
His mother a Cheyenne maiden bartered off by her own father to a cruel white trapper who rapes her and confines her to his tepee.
When her brothers find out what is happening they rescue her and kill "Frenchy" the white trapper but Little Flower is left with a reminder.
. . a son with Cheyenne blood, but a white man's blue eyes and as a Blue Hawk flies above her, she names him "Blue Hawk.
"
Little Flower finds

happiness with a warrior named Black Antelope who excepts her son and adopts him and raises the boy as his own.
But all of Blue Hawks happiness ends at the age of eight when a Chippewa raiding party attacks their village and kills all that he loves and any future dreams he has.
Blue Hawk's life from here on in will forever be changing by those that enter into his life in this untamed frontier.
A half Indian boy grows to manhood and will be torn between two worlds, a forbidden love, a burning desire for revenge, tragedy and loss, and loyalty and friendship.
Savage Horizons tells the story of an orphaned Indian boy adopted by a kind white man called Tom Sax and spans his life and weaves together a very heart wrenching and addictive tale of a man torn between his two worlds, and his triumph to over come his sorrows and loss.
I absolutely loved this book!
Great historical detail was put into this story,
It was a very different approach by it focusing around the hero instead of the heroine this time, and the author did a fabulous job!
Although.
. . there was a lot of Caleb/Blue Hawk finally finds happiness only to have it cruelly taken away and how will he survive kind of theme pretty much throughout the whole book.
It may get on some readers nerves and get tiresome, but I just couldn't stop flipping the pages hoping for a HEA and the constant adventure, drama, betrayals, suspense, heartaches, kept me reeled right in.
BLUE HAWK: Born to a Cheyenne woman and raised with the Indians until tragedy swept him into the white man's world, he was then Caleb Saxa hero in war, a legend on the frontier, a man about to risk everything for love.
SARAH: As fiery as her Irish heritage, she pledged herself to a man she was forbidden to touchand was sent away to marry another in shame.
WALKING GRASS: A darkly sensuous Indian maiden, she would belong to the brave courageous enough to undergo the Sun Dance ritual for her hand.
EMILY: The beautiful daughter of a fanatical preacher, she wanted a man who was heathen, wanton, shocking, and magnificently male.
BRYON CLAWSON: The degenerate son of a rich family, he desired a beautiful woman to advance his ambtionseven if he had to win her by treachery and violence.
THE BLUE QUILL NECKLACE: It began with a birth and many will wear it, until it finally is in the proper hands once again.
. . and the Blue Hawk that flies above and spreads his shadow over completion,
On to book two in the Blue Hawk Trilogy! This is a reread for me, I have loved it each time, The Blue Hawk Saga!! This is the first in a trilogy that is the love story of Sarah and Caleb Sax.
The reader is brought through all of the turbulent emotions, the ups and downs as Caleb and Sarah first fall in love and fight for a life together.
Rosanne Bittner does an excellent job at characerization I loved and sypathised with Caleb and Sarah, and I despized and loathed the villains.
I was trully invested in the two of them, everything I want in a romance novel,
However, this is more than a simple Romance, It is an epic story that along with the love of Caleb and Sarah, is the story of the American Indian and the settllemet of a young Country.
It is the story of a blue Quill necklace which starts in the hands of Caleb "Blue Hawk" Sax's Cheyenne mother and is passed to Caleb and on through to his loved ones.
Caleb who is half indian and half " white", must make the descion of which world he will live in.
Always he is happy in one world and catastrophe strikes sending him reeling into the other, He longs to live free as an indian, but knows that the "white" men will eventually claim all land and push the indians out.
We are given glimpses of a young country's struggles against the British through Caleb's eyes, He changes sides as he grows older, even fighting the British under Andrew Jackson, but always with the feeling of foreboding when it came to the indias and their way of life.
I can't wait to start the next part of this saga that is foretold as the Texas years.
So, come along and follow the trail of the blue quill necklace and enjoy the ride! For emotion, suspense, and sheer enjoyment I give five! I really fell in love with the characters and storyline of this book! The author does a wonderful job of keeping the reader glued to their seat, with plenty of twists and turns and tragedy that turns to triumph that leads to the ultimate hea.
I can't wait to continue on with the story in the next book in this wonderful series! Like I have told many people: This is the book that started it all for me.
. . long, long ago. Still love this book today, Now this is the kind of book I was looking for! It tells the story of an Indian born Blue Hawk, orphaned then adopted by white men and called Caleb Sax.
This book spans his life and weaves together an addictive tale of how a humanbeing can love and desire and have strength to overcome.
I relished learning more about Indians, but would have loved to learn even more about the differences in Cherokee and other tribes.
Most importantly, the story reads well, character development is strong and I can't wait to read the otherbooks.
Unfortunately too many good people died back when the country was first formed, I thankGod we don't have to worry about being attacked and killed like the settlers and Indians did.
This is where it all starts, Caleb Blue Hawk amp Sarah's journey, You will love this book and be frantically looking for Frontire Fires amp Destiny's Dawn to find out how this love story unfolds, Bittner Style!!! UNTAMED PASSIONS AND WARRIOR'S BLOOD
