What to say. It gets complicated, the whole world, underwood, heaven and hell arm decided to get between Clary and Jade I wasn't convinced by the plot, not to say the end.
I was absolutely hooked by the firsts books Not sure if I'll carry on reading till the I read this book straight after City of Glass my favourite in the series so far and was actually excited to see what would happen next.
I was disappointed. It felt as if the author had given us nearly everything you could possibly want with City of Glass and this book was a filler in a way.
The first half of the book seems to be focused on Simon, Isabelle and Maia and their dating triangle, I kept waiting for something to happen but it was very slow up until the lastof the book, If, like myself, you were happy with the outcome of Clary's and Jace's relationship in the previous book you will find this book at times very frustrating.
That being said, near the end of the book Cassandra Clare is back to some of her best writing as new and old characters are introduced with twist and turns known well to all Mortal Instruments fans.
All in all, you will have to read through the slow paced nature of the start of the book to get to the gem at the end.
I adore this book series, I have been hooked from the very beginning, It is a fantasy/sifi type book with the main characters being Shadowhunterspart angel, and they hunt down demons, There are also Warlocks, Vampires, Faeries and Werewolves, good guys, bad guys, other worlds, magic weapons and much much ! Its kind of based around a love story between the two main characters, theres no other way to say that without making it sound cheesy but I promise it isn't! In other similar themes I often hear people moan about the girl character, that she is so annoying, and I agree in things such as True Blood.
But she isn't annoying in this series she is awesome! Such a treat! Also it is going to be made into a TV series so get reading people! Its gonna be amazing! Just as great as the rest of the series, and as the Infernal Devices!!! Cassandra Clare is a very talented writer , her story lines are so effective! What I love the most The witty quotes that just make me giggle on my own in the train ! I think we were all under the impression that book three was the last we'd be seeing of Clary and her friends, but Clare has in store for us and frankly I couldn't be happier because I felt like there were so many unanswered questions at the end of book three.
City Of Fallen Angels picks up straight after COG and steamrolls us straight back into the Shadowhunter world, Clary is undertaking Shadowhunter training with her boyfriend Jace and his family whilst her family is starting to get bigger as Luke and Jocelyn plan their wedding.
COFA is a complex story compared to the previous three, There is so much going on with lots of little subplots and individual character stories, I particularly enjoyed Simon's story this time he became much integral and I was really invested in what he was doing, I desperately hated some of his decisions but I love a book that makes me feel those kind of emotions, I think with book four Clare has actually upped her game, Because there is so much going on this time, we are actually introduced to a whole new set of characters each with their own role tying in nicely.
This big cast did cause me a bit of trouble to begin with, it was tricky to keep up with all the names when we already have a pretty complex set of minor characters to remember.
These additional characters were interesting though
and I enjoyed having a bit insight into the different creature communities, So, although I enjoyed this book perhaps than the previous three, I did find that Clare just unloaded tons of new information at us, Sometimes, because there was so much to tell us, it seemed like she would write full paragraphs of new information and just throw them in whenever she had the opportunity.
This meant that they just didn't tie in very nicely and seemed really obvious and chewy, Another issue I had with this book was that I felt like in the previous books Clare managed to nail her characters personalities perfectly, I felt like I could describe each of them and would be able to sum them all up perfectly, She seemed to get the balance particularly for Jace pretty right his arrogance didn't become grating and was explained, However, in book four he is ridiculously arrogant, I would have thrown the book in the bin if I wasn't so precious about damaging books! In Clare's defence there is actually a bit of a reason given to us for his behaviour change, but I just couldn't stomach reading about him during those moments.
Particularly as he's probably supposed to be our main book crush of the series, Just, no. Overall, I did think this was a nice addition to what I thought was a closed series it was much better developed than the previous three with much going on to keep us engaged.
This was something I'd found a major problem with previous books, I'll still give the next one a read because I felt COFA had lots potential so hopefully we're onto a winner now, City of Angels was another amazing book in this series but I'm completely shocked by how the book ended, Just when I thought everything was going to be ok, WHAM, the story makes such a turn that I was left staring at the last page, wide eyed, in shock and thinking WTF Ce livre va bien dans la continuit du reste de la srie !L'histoire est super et l'anglais est trs comprhensible pas besoins d'être scotch son dictionnaire ! Et encore, trouveront ils un goût d'exploitation facile derrière la parution de ceème livre ! Je ne trouvais pas utile de créer un nouveau cycle, et pourtant j'ai succombé à la tentation.
C'était trop facile. Résultat, je me sens heureuse d'avoir This book was just as good as the others and I am thoroughly enjoying the story BUT I do feel that the author dragged this one out a bit and also repeated a few too many scenarios.
Next book is numberand although I want to read it, I also feel there is a little sadness within me, I like the characters very much but I'm hoping the next book focuses on much than just a handful of people, I need to be drawn in like the others books managed to do, Bookis released inand I thought I would buy it immediately BUT now it all depends upon this next stage of the story, Cassandra has to pull something special out of the bag this time to make me want to purchase another book, Maybe author's lose their way when they are reaching the end of a series or maybe every book just cannot be brilliant every time, KARRIE.
This review will contain some minor spoilers for previous books.
Safter reading Clorckwork Angel I was interested to see where this book was going to go, knowing that it was originally going to be a trilogy but also seeing that Clares writing seemed to be much better.
I was not let down let me tell you, As The Mortal Instruments was originally supposed to be a trilogy things have kind of gone back to normal in the beginning of City of Fallen Angels: Clary is training, Jocelyn and Luke are sorting their lives out together and Simon is getting to grips with his whole vampire thing.
And whilst the beginning was quite normal and I can understand that some people may find this slow, I liked that we got a glimpse into a normal life for the shadowhunters without the constant fear of Valentine.
Im always a big fan of seeing friendships and relationships in books so it was just nice to see that without everything else going on at the same time.
Now that Clary and Jace know they arent related I feel so much comfortable reading this series, I already knew they werent related because, as I have mentioned before, I spoil myself a lot, But even knowing they werent related I still felt so uncomfortable because they didnt know that so to them they were still kissing their sibling so it was just eugh.
Im so glad thats over, However, Jace exhibits some really strange behaviour in this book, which is part of the plot, but Clary just goes along with it most of the time which is just not great.
Like youve only known him a couple months girl, dont let him treat you like s!One of the things that I found a bit strange is that now Jocelyn is out of her coma thing shes still not really a presence and feels like she doesnt really take an interest in her daughters life.
I dont know if its because she was too swept up in Luke or what but there was so much going on that she just wasnt around for and I just left me feeling like Im so damn glad Im reading these after theyre all out because the book ends on one hell of a cliffhanger that I know would have driven me absolutely batty.
