contained Having enjoyed the first book, Im left slightly frustrated during and after reading this, I have to agree with the otherstar reviews on the whole, the plot doesnt quite progress, and is very self indulgent in places.
It gets side tracked in massive chunks for no reason, I was waiting for the Felurian Fae section to reach a conclusion but it just went on and on for hours to no real benefit other than he learned how to shag really well and got a really useful cloak out of it.
Then, when that was finally over, we launched straight into another extremely lengthy saga into the Tai Chi world of the Adem warriors where he was immersed In the wisdom and teachings of the Lethani a bit like the Tao and also got to exercise his new shagging skills freely.
That went on for hours and hours too, I enjoyed the section where he killed the rapist bandits and rescued the girls a bit, He came home to the University as some kind of hero legend, Then he went into Tarbean to send a fake letter to his arch enemy pretending to be a pregnant ex lover.
Why did he do that It just seemed quite a petty thing to do for someone who was supposed to have learned new wisdoms of the world, it was far from “Lethani” and would serve no purpose other than stirring up trouble with his arch enemy and undoubtedly lead to crippling trouble for himself.
Besides, given Ambroses rough treatment of women I doubt he would even care anyway, All that aside, the Denna thing didnt progress in the slightest, were no closer to any enlightenment on the Chandrian and the Amyr.
We are also no enlightened about how Kvothe came to be innkeeper Kote, who Bast is and how theyre together, the mysterious sword on the wall which isnt the Adem sword, the Skrael, the “king killer” thing “poet killer” In fact theres nothing that is answered in any way whatsoever, and given that there hasnt been a sequel for a decade, I doubt the author really has the answers either.
I cant help but think that there is an awful lot to cram into the third book to keep us up to speed.
This book was far too long for what it was I cant imagine how long the next one will have to be!

There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.

So begins a tale told from his own point of viewa story unequaled in fantasy literature.
Now in The Wise Mans Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Masterful, There is a beauty to Pats writing that defies description,
This is a difficult book to rate and review, because I enjoyed reading it and had a great overall experience, but at the same time have quite a few criticisms.
I know many people liked this less than the first book, but Im not entirely sure I agree, I find the university parts some of the least compelling and engaging, and so taking a big trip away and exploring of the world was fantastic for me.
I really enjoyed most of Kvothe's adventures, there's a good variety of them, and there are some great new introductions to the world I'm very interested in the Cthaeh.
However, I understand and share a lot of the frustration with this book, The story felt quite rambling, Its definitely taking its time along Kvothes journey, and it feels like weve barely touched on the things Kvothe is famous for.
He still feels a long way from the legendary character teased in the first book, It also feels like were circling around and ending up back where we started, This feels like an odd move for the middle book in the trilogy, which I would expect to be breaking away from the origin story a little.
In addition to this, the secondary characters still feel underdeveloped and Denna is even aggravating than before, But despite all this, the tale and the telling of it are so exciting and compelling throughout, I raced through the book and couldnt put it down, and I want ! Im still very invested in Kvothes story, and now there are interesting new hints that Kvothe might not be the hero we think.
Ive read other people's suggestions that this could be a villains story in the end, and while I dont think it will be quite that simple, I think this is a good observation.
Still a very enjoyable read, still both frustrating and awesome, and I still cant wait for, There is no point to a story without an ending, I didn't read all that just to find out there's no point because the third book of the trilogy hasn't been written.
You can't call it a trilogy if there aren'tbooks, Such a shame as I was REALLY enjoying it, But a waste of time if I never find out what happened, It's like if Tolkein had stopped/rd of the way through Lord of the Rings, Would we all still love it
I just finished reading both books, one after the other.
I can honestly say that the KingKiller Chronicle is among the best books I have read for a very long time.
I find Patrick Rothfuss' writing flawless, It is entertaining yet richly detailed, The characters are all very These books are waaayyyy too long, The firstpages of the first book were great, I was delighted, But then, to my dismay, it's insufferably long to come to the point, I mean: lets say that the hero went on a city street to some tavern: it will take pages after pages of toujours aussi brillant Patrick Rothfuss continue de nous faire voyager ses personnages sont complexes, profonds, attachants et intéressants, leur histoire est originale c'est poétique et beau très clairement parmi les meilleurs livres que j'ai jamais lu Were once again taken on a tragic, mysterious and otherworldly journey alongside young Kvothe.
As in the first novel, the story is recounted by Kvothe, now known as Kote the Inn Keeper, while the travelling Chronicler records the truth behind his fabled reputation.
Kotes student, Bast, still hopes to restore the Inn Keeper to his former prowess, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, almost as much as the first, The passage of time is condensed, taking place over a year rather than several, but we do get to see of the world as sixteen year old Kvothe travels away from the arcane university, learns to fight like the Adem, and even loses himself and his innocence for a spell in the land of the Fae.
He calls the name of the wind several times, and pursues fervently any knowledge of the evil Chandrian and the righteous Amyr.
However, disappointingly, we dont really learn much else about these, at all, Still, Rothfuss expertly weaves stories amongst tales within a chronicle inside a book, with all the poetic and romantic talk of music and magic to match its adventure, action and tragedy.
As usual, things do not always work out the way wed expect, and tasty details are omitted from Kvothes retelling which only serves to keep us on our toes.
I think some of the anticipation felt when reading the first Kingkiller Chronicle was missing from the second instalment.
I felt disappointed slightly that Kvothes expulsion from the University was not reached, as I found myself waiting for his world to fall apart once.
Things dont seem to go too wrong for our young hero in this book, in fact several things swing in his favour.
The overall outlook is brighter and less heart wrenching, Perhaps the utter desolation felt at moments in the first book, his grief, his poverty, his desperation, being missing from the sequel made it slightly tepid.
I guess I expected woe, And the Chandrian too, his ever elusive foes, are sparsely present, However, I eagerly await the next book, whenever it appears, Kvothe is truly mesmerising, and the world Rothfuss creates is tangible, tantalising and truly unique, If youre looking for intriguing characters, unexpected twists, a rich world filled with travellers, music, magic, students, mercenaries and ancient threats, these books are highly recommended.
