Pick Up Nothing Is Okay (Button Poetry) Formulated By Rachel Wiley Digital Copy
cutting poetry from a very talented writer, Really incisive and poignant. Ms Wiley clearly writes from the heart and is a wonderful voice for women everywhere Every now and then a line or a poem would get inside me and I would love Rachel for all the ways she is me and all the ways she is not.
Beautiful. Make sure you watch the videos so you can imagine the author reading the poems! Nothing is Okay is the second full length poetry collection by Rachel Wiley, whose work simultaneously deconstructs the lies that we were taught about our bodies and our beings, and builds new ways of viewing ourselves.
As she delves into queerness, feminism, fatness, dating, and race, Wiley molds these topics into a punching critique of culture and a celebration of self, A fat positive activist, Wiley's work soars and challenges the bounds of bodies and hearts, and the ways we carry them, Rachels poetry is amazing. Her radical self love and strength in knowing she is beautiful and worthy of love EXACTLY the way she is has impacted me at a core level.
I demand that
ever femme I know watch her perform her work and I gift her books every chance I get, Her poetry is the kind that will be the reason some young girl decides to keep fighting for one day, I know her work has helped me learn to love myself a little each day, This book helped me have some difficult conversations with people in my family after having asked them to read some of the poems, I have read it no less thantimes and every time I do a different poem or a different line moves me than the first time I read it.
I am in complete and utter praise, Rachel embodies every positive ray of sunshine that needs to soak into the younger generations, She gives us insight to her mixed world where men abuse their positions in an attempt to have her succumb, As a fellow fat girl, who has fallen prey to the ridiculousness that my body is something to fetishize or that you “like big women” allows you the right to touch me or any woman like me.
A great thank you to Rachel, for sharing pieces of herself with readers, You are glorious Rachel revel in it, Rachel Wiley's poetry is simply amazing,
She is sharp, blunt, even harsh when needed, and I can guarantee that you will find at least one or two poems you can totally relate to but probably much than that.
Her words have the power to make you smirk and nod your head, but also to look deeply into yourself and into the world around you.
They vary from outburst of rage and frustration, to pungent critiques of society always extremely spot on, In case you haven't already, go find her performances on facebook or youtube: the way she reads her poems is incredibly passionate and moving, She speaks to the girl in me that was shamed for getting seconds And thirds, And reassures her that shes beatuiful and loved, If only I had these books growing up, Now I have a daughter of my own to empower, Rachel Wiley's poetry is just what is needed to empower women everywhere, I read this the night that I got it and stayed up until I finished it, It was perfection. I even read one of the poems to a few of my friends on Snapchat, I am in love with this poetry book, Rachel Wiley is a phenomenal poet, Absolutely brilliant read, I love all of the poems in this book, Some are a little sad, some happy, all of the feelings you should be getting from good poetry, Rachel has a way with words and feelings that make you at times want to hug her and other times want to BE her, It's the joys and pain and all the relatable struggles that nobody talks about finally given voice through perfect prose, This is very necessary. Rachel Willey is life! I'm a huge fan of Rachel Wiley's spoken word videos, There is so much passion in them I was afraid her book would fall flat but I was wrong, Being able to read the poems myself allowed me to savor every beautiful word and emotion, If you are a woman, an outsider, or existing between you want this book!
