have spent the weekend devouring this book and making lists, I have a very small back garden with no room at all for raising annuals, The premise of this book is choosing permanent plants for cutting, whatever the size of your plot, There are several lists of the flowers and shrubs the author has found best for her flower business and they help narrow down the dizzying choice we have now.
Permanent plants are expensive than a packet of seeds so, particularly with a small garden, its important to make the right choice, One of those books that wont just stay on the shelf, I read a review of this book in a Buckinghamshire Gardens' Trust newsletter which was positive, so decided to buy it, I don't have a large garden, nor do I intend to be a florist, I'm so fed up with the annual bedding flower palaver, that I thought I may have some luck with a lot perennials, This is such a good investment even for a no green fingers person like myself, It's very well set out,
There was no 'look inside' to click on when I bought it, In case this is still the case the following may be useful to know: It has a contents page and an index, Each type of perennial or woody plant is set out under a Main heading, followed by a general intro paragraph then: Recommended plants Spacing Cultivation tips When to harvest Conditioning and vase life and finally, Propogation.
There is no fiddly paper jacket cover, the lack of which I approve, It's just the hard cover that you see in the photo which feels silky and smooth, If you're a budding florist or even just like me a homemaker who likes occasionally to do a flower arrangement, there's plenty of excellent advice.
It would be great as a coffee table book too!Be sure to read the section at the beginning of the book called How the book works.
It will sit next my other best loved plant book, The Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Plants Flowers edited by David Joyce Ebury Press which complements it very well.
