on Quentin Tarantino: the iconic filmmaker and his work : Nathan, Ian

beautifully illustrated, and much than a mere glorified Wikipedia article, this is one of Ian Nathan's better books.
It also happens to be one of the better books available on Quentin Tarantino and there are a LOT of them out there! Recommended.
I think I would have enjoyed this book, but the cover was dented, so I asked for a replacement.
The second one arrived in an even worse state, I then gave up and returned both for a refund, Very disappointed as I really wanted this book, Returned item Really good quality and decent sized book box set, Light on text and heavy on images, this glossy book, Quentin Tarantino: The Iconic Filmmaker and his Work, written by Empire movie magazine journalist Ian Nathan, is an entertaining and breezy journey through the work of provocative writer director Quentin Tarantino.
Even though this well produced hardback doesn't have much in the way of in depth analysis, it still managed to tell me a few things I didn't know about Tarantino's work, such as his ambitions, aborted and otherwise, for as yet un made films.
The text is short but author Nathan covers a lot: obviously the films Tarantino had directed, from his punchy, visceral debut of Reservoir Dogs, to his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In between, Nathan covers the films Tarantino wrote but didn't direct such as True Romance and others, as well as Tarantino's contribution to the portmanteau collection, Four Rooms.
There is also a full chronology that lists all of Tarantino's work including acting and producing, script doctoring Crimson Tide, The Rock, cameos in films, TV series etc.
Tarantino's Video Archives years and his upbringing are also touched upon, of course, This book is not a full scale analysis of Tarantino's films for that you would need to look elsewhere.
If you want an informed study of the work and context of filmmakers of thes, I'd suggest Peter Biskind's Down and Dirty Pictures which Nathan does use as one of his sources.
This book, rather, is a knowledgeable, informative but informal tour of the work of Quentin Tarantino so far, with great photos, behind the scenes shots, publicity stills and poster artwork, of the work of a divisive, distinctive and undeniably important filmaker working today.
