Headstrong, she hires Perry Mason to get around the clause, Complications arise, and he soon finds himself deep into a family murder, Too deep perhaps

"Sulky Girl" isin the successful Perry Mason series, but it's a first in one category, "The Case of the Velvet Claws,", did not contain a courtroom drama, In, for the first time, Mason illustrates his ability to drive the judge and the prosecuting attorney crazy, this is a story that just couldn't hold my interest, Maybe it was the generation misogyny maybe it was the pacing but it just couldn't hold my interest, This is the second Perry Mason mystery published and was strange, This was one of the slightly more difficulttochew reads, Perry Mason novels usually have scenes where some character explains their side of the story, complete with lies and all, with Perry taking it all in, In this book, you get many such scenes, with one of them near the very beginning of the story, but all of them bombarding you with consecutive paragraphs or pages of testimony.
In all these scenes, the reader is forced to focus and take in an info dump, which I thought was inorganic relative to the overall flow of the book, While such scenes exist in other books as well, they are usually peppered with Perry's pointed questioning which allows readers to take breathers in between witness accounts and also allows a glimpse into Perry's state of mind while examining witnesses.


But that is my only gripe with the book, because overall the characters and story are great, All the lying characters had their motivations and felt more realistic than the previous The Case of the Sulky Girl's main character, the plot twists were sufficiently and surreptitiously builtup, and it made for quite an enjoyable read.

.I wasnt sure if I would like this book or not, A lot of reviews mention misogynistic behavior and comments, While I did notice that, I also noticed similar behavior towards other men, In general, I believe that the behavior is more critical and jaded towards people in general,

On another note, I loved the twists and turns, One of the reasons why I enjoyed both the book and the TV show with Raymond Burr, is that Im frequently left second guessing myself and my thought process, I like feeling stumped because something isnt immediately apparent and this book definitely satisfied that, I like how it ends with the characters giving the title of the next book very Nancy Drew, Secretary Della Street informs her boss, Perry Mason, that a young woman looking either scared or sulky is waiting to consult him in Erle Stanley Gardners second Perry Mason book The Case of the Sulky Girl.

А к финалу, каким бы искушенным читателем ты ни была, как бы ни морщилась от стилистической и описательной слабости, меняешь отношение на противоположное. Иначе говоря, умеет Гарднер. А для тех, кто неровно дышит к классическому детективу, без маньяков, расчлененки, без клочков по закоулочкам и прочего "кровькишкидоброта", есть замечательный сюрприз.
