Get Your Copy Those Of My Blood Articulated By Jacqueline Lichtenberg Released Through Digital Paper
. and to make a special effort to appreciate her writing of star trek novels amp others I have the fondest memories of discovering the Sime/Gen universe as a teenager.
As a dedicated science fiction reader I was having more and more difficulty ignoring male authors' views of gender, And it was so hard to find female writers! Later on I realized that a lot of them were hiding behind male names, So it was with delight that I dove into sitelinkJacqueline Lichtenberg's universe, I have no memories of how she handled gender at the time, and I'm not sure that I cared, just as long as I didn't have to be subjected to the halfnaked, oversexed, airheaded nonsense that seemed to be the only women that men could write.
Ever since then her image of the tension between a parasitic/symbiotic relationship has always stuck with me, Although I was such a naive reader that I never saw it as a vampire analogy,
So it was with utter delight that I stumbled upon this, just browsing the shelves of my neighborhood library, Here Lichtenberg takes up the theme of vampires for real, but still in a sciencefiction context, The plotting is densely enjoyable and she was clever enough not to leave the technology looking dated, An almost unavoidable problem for sciencefiction after two decades or so, When the whole point is to speculate on future technology you can't help but get lots of things glaringly wrong, How can we all not wonder at the complete absence of mobile phones
Some have described this as a romance but I would have to disagree.
It's much more about the protagonist's relationship with his father figure, There just isn't enough tension or exploration of his love life for that to matter very much, Quite enjoyable nonetheless! I do not offerstars, to anything, with a cavalier attitude, But, when I had read this book for the first time in thedecade I was awed right down to my toes, For me, it was the first time an author took the traditional, i, e vampire theme, and presented something literally other worldly, Generally, before "Those of my Blood", I was raised, feed, and nourished with nothing but vanilla when it came to our blood sucking fiends, Closed coffins, dark amp dank dungeons, wooden stakes, and garlic, But Lichtenberg decided to step outside the box and push the imagination to dare I sound cliche' outer limits, and she does it with exceptional talent.
World building, character development, dialog, suspense, romance, action all the elements with none of the tripe,
Of course, since then, the paranormal, science fiction, and fantasy / urban fantasy genres have all painted many a varied version of the vampire, However, if you what to read, what I would venture to guess, the forerunner of what we call paranormal today, than I believe this book to be the defining force heralding the event horizon of supernatural, preternatural, and all that is dark and lovely just outside of this universe.
I discovered this book when I was a very young teenager and I loved it! Integrating vampire love and pageturning suspense by an awardwinning science fiction author, this story of fantasy and romance will appeal to genre fans of all kinds.
Finding the remains of an alien spaceship complete with humanoid corpses, scientists begin to work on sending a message to the, in hope of contacting the newly discovered civilisation.
The scientists, however, are unaware that the aliens they are attempting to contact already walk among them, Stranded on Earth generations ago, the vampirelike Luren have split into two sects: the Residents, who consider themselves part of human society, and the Tourists, who prey upon humans as they wait to return to their home planet.
Fearing that Luren civilisation will enslave humanity upon the receipt of the message, astronomer and Luren Resident Titus Shiddehara works furiously to sabotage the scientists' contact attempts.
The premise of the book is interesting, There are two types of vampires who are really aliens, the sort who respect humans and want to get along, and the sort who want to rule humanity.
The bad sort are trying to get a message out to the rest of the vampires to come rescue them and rule earth, Sadly, I found the main character one of the good sort of vampires, entirely dull, He goes on about being entirely committed, but then clearly isn't, Jacqueline Lichtenberg is creator of the SimeGen Universe, primary author of Star Trek Lives!, founder of the Star Trek Welcommittee, creator of the term Intimate Adventure, winner of the Galaxy Award for Spirituality in Science Fiction and one of the first Romantic Times Awards for Best Science Fiction Novel.
