Dolphin's Table is a very cute chapter book for children but is still an enjoyable read for us oldsters as well, Beginning with a regular family forced to live in a one room apartment due to shortages of homes in the city, The main characters is Papa Dolphin, Mama Dolphin and there three children who are just living their lives as best they can, Papa Dolphin purchases a long, old dining room table that he admires and nobody seems to want that he believes will bring him luck in finding a suitable home for his family and it.
Sadly, they are kicked out of their home and end up living under the table, Fun and silliness ensues but needless to say in the end all's well that ends well, As is the case with most of Dorothy Gilman's stories, The book has been outofprint for some time but if you can find a copy get one for yourself and your children or grandchildren.
It has lovely illustrations by Kurt Werth, The book was originally published in, Maybe it will be rereleased someday,
I am currently rereading all of the published works of one of my favorite authors, Dorothy Gilman Butters, who has publisheddifferent books and several stories that were published in magazines beginning inuntil her last one was published in.
Sadly, Ms. Gilman passed away in. She will be missed.
By the author of stories for teenage group this tale of a family who made do has a certain something that makes it laughable.
Squeezed into an apartment far too small for them, the five Dolphins Papa, Mama, Teddy, Sarah Ann and Joel are even further incommoded when Papa sees a huge table he simply must have and buys it.
The table fills the whole of their apartment, but it reminds them of how nice it would be to live in a house big enough for it.
The chance comes, but in a roundabout way that sees the Dolphins evicted to become tenants of their own table first, They live under it in the park until a policemen and wealthy old lady get involved with them and prove to be the Dolphins' salvation.
