Obtain An Inconvenient Youth Chronicled By Fiona Forde Mobi

is necessary that this book or one like it should be written for the sake of understanding South Africa's contemporary and future politics, There is definite context that will produce an historical monster and Forde's account tells us exactly why, where and how this man has emerged, what his life experiences and political mentors and influences were and why he has been so massively influential.
Although it is true that he has twisted events to suit and shape himself, that his life and behaviour is one long tale of manipulation and demagoguery, but almost everything this man does or has done is in some way rooted in struggle history and populist sentiment.
There is a certain malign genius to Malema part of which is to navigate and manipulate the ANC's history and

contradictionswhy the party is not implementing policies and positions it knows are unworkable but can't formally let go ofas well as the anger and rage in the country regarding unfulfilled promise and injustices unpunished.
It is an obvious indictment of the ruling party that it allowed a political opportunist to commit such mischief for so long and at such cost to itself and the country.
That it happenedand will continue to happentells us much about the South Africa of right now,

Forde's book started out as an authorised bio but has become something far more interesting and the access granted by Malema himself and his associatesthough they may regret that nowtells us much we may not have known about his rise and modus operandi.
This is not a weighty academic treatment and, atpages, it is a short precis of his own history and the issues raised, Less fortunately, the book also suffers some imbalance based on an overly longpagemid book summary of ANC history that Malema claims inspiration from and some post script analysis in the closing chapters of why / how he is a mirror on the country's history of racism and exclusion.
The latter could more usefully have been a thematic source of the narrative rather than tacked on the end as an after thought,

Apart from these failings, and that it came out just prior to his downfall, and thus comments on an unfinished story, the book is a worthwhile effort.
Above all, it is fair to Malema in noting the personal strengths that made his rise so meteoric and controversial, Destructive and irresponsible as he may be, it cannot be denied that he has political talent, a gifted performer who can think on his feet and a born leader fearless to the point of recklessness.

One conclusion from the book that rings true is that Malema, or at least the Malema style and substance of politics in South Africa is not over, that if not himself, than others will tread the same path and that this will lead in directions that have probably only begun.

I am very impressed by the author abilities to capture the complexity behind the man that Julius is, It really changes from the easy one dimension man that the media is constantly painting him to be, The author did an excellent job, especially because this book isn't just for understanding Julius but understanding modernday South Africa, Great historical tale of the ANC gives you appreciation and understanding of why in the psyche of the masses, syncing with the boat is a better option than jumping ship.
If South Africa was an individual visiting a shrink, the last chapter of this book would be the shrink diagnosis, As I was reading this I kept on wondering if the author was to write a new book sort of follow up including all recent development, what would it be like Insightful, but book is a bit dry.
I forced myself to read this book to the end, Every single page. What a nightmare.

Do I care about Julius Malema No, Do I care about any of the other politicians in the book No, They are selfindulgent, calculating creatures, Every last one of them, And I do mean all of them, Malema is making use of history, and remodelling himself after Mandela and his fight with the Communist Party many years ago really,
I don't think politicians are different anywhere in the world, It's just more embarrassing in South Africa, The new ANC government is exactly the same as the old Afrikanerled one, Both are full of uneducated narcissists, When I read books like this I wish I could force everybody to read Animal Farm, Nothing changes.
Julius Malema is an astute opportunist, Forde is correct when she observes that he was given too much power without any life experience, I am mortified by the behaviour of a leadership who gave him this power, I am grateful they are getting what they deserve,

In the author's defence, the subject matter is boring, Really, really boring. However, as a writer, and a writing teacher, I know this is not a good enough excuse,

Overloaded by the history of ANC and its youth league, Wish the author had concentrated on Malema As much about the making of present day South Africa as it is about Malema, A book that broadly questions how and why instead of focusing on a narrow, biographical who, Intelligently situates Malema within the trajectory of the ANC and traces the organization's rougher edges along the way, This book states that “South Africans are mesmerised though not necessarily enamoured” by Malema, who it presented as a cunning, uncontrollable, corrupt, thinskinned populist,

The highlights of the text are the access Forde gets to Malema and his grandma, and the very interesting chapter detailing his financial involvements in the awarding of various tenders.
What is far less enjoyable are the two final chapters, The first makes comparisons between South Africa and China and Russia which didnt quite work for me, The second attempts to tackle race in thest century but it all feels very hamfisted, Quotes are used like “it has echoes of Mein Kampf to it all” and the narrative pops out “for years the world had admired the iconic stature of Nelson Mandela, the peaceful and noble product of a bitter struggle that lasted for more thanyears and PUT AN END TO RACIAL INJUSTICE that had lingered for centuries”.

I read this book to get a better understanding of Malema, and I think it helped me achieve that despite being written before the EFF period.
The final two chapters are clunky though, More than a ringleader, a rabblerouser and a rebel who knows no bounds, Julius Malema is a new kind of cadre in South African political life, a radical product ofyears of struggle politics.
Whether you love him or loathe him, he is undeniably one of the most controversial politicians of our time and yet he remains an enigma to most.
An Inconvenient Youth traces Malema's life, from his early, povertystricken years in Limpopo, to his joining the student structures of the ANC in the earlys, and his rapid rise through the party's ranks to become the president of the ANC Youth League in.
Forde analyses the sources of Malema's wealth, exploring his seamless approach to business through politics, She situates Malema within the ANC's history and shows in unprecedented detail how he has perfected the practices that characterise a new 'struggle' in which individuals extend their personal wealth and political power at the expense of the people.
This researched account explores how a brave child has grown to become a grave inconvenience, not only to the ANC, but also, due to his style of politics, to South Africa's fledgling democracy.
