Pick Up The Way Back Home Drafted By Barbara Freethy Listed As Script

in the fictional small town of River Rock, much of the action revolves around white water river rafting, Fun, yet dangerous, and unusual in a romance setting,

I liked that: Alicia was a single mom, and that she already had a very nice, if boring, boyfriend, when Gabe came back into her life, Gabe is just out of the military, and both are damaged humans, most recently by the death of Rob, Alicia's twin, and Gabe's best friend, All these things made me like these characters, and to root for them to get together,

I had a hard time with the town of River Rock having become so hostile to Alicia and her father, for an accident that wasn't their fault, Kind of spoils the appeal of the whole small town charm, even if the townspeople did seem to come around, How long would it be until they turned on them again And the kids, . . cute, but also, never underfoot when it would be inconvenient, It's a good story, but I never really lost myself in it, the way I'd hoped, This is the story of Alicia who is recovering from a terrible series of events, Her families rafting business is trying to recover from a terrible accident and her best friends' fiancee dies, This causes a major division between families involved and the town has taken up sides with this other family, Also Alicia's twin brother Rob, a marine is killed in action, His best friend Rob who was in the Marines with him shows up and says that Rob had given his house to him, Alicia is not happy to see him and blames him for the death of her brother, We discover that Alicia and Rob had hooked up three years prior and Gabe left her without looking back, Things get complicated when suspicious things start happening to Alicia, Gabe is determined to protect her, I liked the complicated relationship between Gabe and Alicia, The chemistry between Gabe and Alicia is quite potent and neither of them are very good at fighting it, Gabe doesn't feel worthy of Alicia, he had a very unstable childhood and just felt that he wasn't a good choice to be a father to her son, Alicia isn't so sure. I liked how there was another side story involving her best friendwho lost her fiancee and her boy friend that she has known for years finally being realized, This was a good book, I liked it. Not the best of her work but it had exciting moments and I still didn't figure out whodunit before the reveal, Goodness

Family loss, a town split, second chance romance and intrigue as someone cant let go of the past, This is a good romantic suspense in a small town with a military touch, The river tours are interesting and the balance of friendship, romance and action was fun, Sweet characters and a good storyline made this an enjoyable read! The town is full of aholes,

Her best friend is a btch,

Her boyfriend has no clue and doesnt really care about her,

And while shes dating him, she gets together with Gabe

I like Alicia and Gabe, I enjoy their story. But I loathe the background characters and cant work out why she has put up with it all, and continues to according to the epilogue,

.rounded down. Because the surrounding personalities grated,

CR In the small California town of River Rock, the river is always theresometimes unpredictable and wild, sometimes a source of comfort, always a part of life.
Bestselling author Barbara Freethy will capture your heart with an emotional story about love, family, . . and fighting for what matters most,

ExMarine Gabe Ryder is fulfilling the last request of his best friend, Rob, who was killed in a firefight during their final days of service, He promised to help Robs family especially Robs twin sister, Aliciawith their struggling river rafting business, Gabe has a hidden past with Alicia, though, Shes the woman who taught him that love might exist, yet he walked away from her,

Alicia has more than enough on her plate with her brothers death, her fathers injury from a tragic rafting accident, the entire town turning against them, and a series of dangerous attacks on her business.
She doesnt need this rugged loner who broke her heart, But passion flares between them, and this time, they cant walk away, Alicia cant help wondering: did Rob really send Gabe to watch over heror did he want her to show Gabe the way home Another great book by Barbara Freethy and this one is about river rafting and losing the ones you love.
Gabe Ryder came to River rock to make sure his best friends twin sister and father were ok since Robs death while in the Marines, There had been an accident while rafting and Alicias best friends fiancé was killed and half the town blamed Alicia and her father, Things start to get dangerous about the time rafting season is getting ready to start and it takes Gabe and Alicia to get to the bottom of the accident, Good suspense book. Challenge: Summer Romance Bingobelated Sports/River rafting, Courage, wisdom, patience, perseverance, and sacrifice lead many of this books characters back to lost friendships, honest relationships, and love for each other and the river that sustains them, I was pretty upset with Kelly, though actually her feelings are understandable, She lost her fiancee in a dangerous rafting, and there were rumors saying that Alicia was to blame, that the equipment was not decent, The disappointing part was she didn't give Alicia a chance to at least talk to her, She believed the rumors and thought the worst of her exbest friend, She moved out of town and didn't even went home to attend Rob's, Alicia's brother, funeral, She finally got out of his grief after someone put Alicia's boatyard on fire, and started to find out what really happened that day,

Anyway, I think there were some plot holes or unexplained scene, For example, what did Kenny, or whatever his name was, do in Alicia's back yard atpm, He claimed he was searching for his belongings and didn't want to disturb her, But when he was gone, he bring nothing with him,

And we've got to see through Kelly's perspective, and she kind of hooked up with Jared, but we didn't see the process, Just half done, and suddenly in the epilogue, they got married, I was a bit disappointed, I expect something more but it's still a nice read, Enjoy reading how a loner learns how to change

I enjoyed reading how a tough marine mellows through love and understanding, so many obstacles to overcome, A story of trials and tribulations, . this novel is an insight into perseverance, . read and enjoy. Lovely introduction to Ms. Barbara Freethy. I look forward to more of her novels,

This story felt fully fleshed out and realistic, There were some moments of tension and drama, but the relationships progressed and evolved reasonably even the nonromantic ones,

Even though there had to be a death to spur the rest of the story, Im glad all who were left eventually found somewhat happy endings, A Homecoming

I really enjoyed this book, Barbara Freethy never disappoints. A great story with very likable characters, I have read many of her books but luckily I have quite a few to read, Out of all the characters, I liked Jared the most, He seemed funny and quirky and an all around nice guy, It wasnt my favorite chick flick but it was a good book, A heartwarming tale, which I actually rated,. Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies, com:

The past year has been rough for Alicia, a single mom of a nineyearold son, Justin, and her family, Her twin brother Rob had gone into the Marines, but she lost him a few weeks ago when he had been killed in the line of duty, Living with her father, she helped him run the family whitewater rafting business, But six months ago, there had been a tragic accident, She and her father had taken a group of men out rafting in a bachelor party celebration of the wedding that was soon to take place between Brian and Alicias best friend Kelly.
But the waters had been

rough that day the rafts had capsized, Her father had been injured and was still using a cane to get about, She had been thrown from the raft and now suffers a fear of the water, But Brian had been killed, Since then, many of the people in town have blamed her family for his death, although his death had been ruled an accident, Her friend Kelly, in her grief, had sided with those in town and had not even allowed Alicia to give her side of the story, Afterwards, Kelly had left town and had not returned for Robs memorial service, But now, with her mothers impending surgery, Kelly is back in town, though she and Alicia are still not speaking, Alicia has gone over the tragedy so many times, but she cannot see it as anything but an accident, This is the only accident in the sixty years history of the business, However, Kelly believes that Alicia and her family were at fault, but refuse to own up to it, On top of everything, Gabe, Robs best friend, is back and has taken over Robs house,

Gabe grew up on the streets and in foster homes, He has not known what it is like to be part of a family, But Rob had been like a brother to him, He had promised Alicia that he would watch out for Rob, but he had been unable to prevent Robs death, Since the first time he met Alicia he has been attracted to her, They had had one night together before he and Rob had signed on for an additional stint in the Marines, Gabe and Rob had only had six days left before they would return home when Rob was killed, Gabe had been there when he died and had promised Rob he would assist Alicia and their father to get the business back up and running, Rob had been worried about how the business had gone downhill after Brians death and the reaction of the townspeople, Rob had even written a letter, explaining that he had given his house to Gabe and wanted him to help them, Gabe was determined to honor his promise,

Alicia was angry at Gabe and blamed him for Robs death, After all, he had promised to watch after him, Even though she had demanded to see the letter Rob had written, giving Gabe the house that had always been in the family, she had not had the heart to open it.
Lately, she has been dating Keith, a school teacher new to the town who has a son, David, the same age as Justin, The two boys are close as brothers, But Keith does not stir the passion in her the way that Gabe does, As they slowly begin working together to get the business restarted, the attraction between them grows, But there are people in town who do not want the business started back up, When her fuel line is cut, quickly followed by the boathouse being burned down, she and Gabe must act to find out who is behind it, Can they find the culprit before it is too late As they work together and Alicia sees Gabes lonely past and his fear of fully committing himself to a relationship, she begins to wonder if Rob sent him to save her and her family, or did he send him there so they could save him

A stirring tale, THE WAY BACK HOME, the latest novel by New York Times bestselling author Barbara Freethy, is a heartwarming, passionate contemporary romance that will captivate you for the very beginning and not let go until the very last page.
Gabe and Alicia are ideally suited, Each is what the other needs, Although they fight the passion between them in the beginning, the inevitable happens, Gabe claims not to be a family man, never having had a regular family life, But his interactions with her son Justin are filled with love and wisdom, Beautifully written, this story is filled with warmth, passion, danger, family dynamics, clever dialogue, tragedy, complex characters, whitewater rafting, romance and love, making it one you will not soon forget.
I highly recommend THE WAY BACK HOME and look forward to Ms, Freethys future works.
