introduction states that "this book is a work of creative nonfiction", The author writes vignettes as if they were told by the women being profiled and by people that they met during their experiences.
However, it isn't actually in there own words and in some cases may not even be by specific people, I did learn something about these women by reading the book, but if I had realized this earlier I would have bought an actual biography instead.

The women profiled are Isabella Bird, Clara Brown, Margaret "Molly" Brown, Nellie Cashman, and Sarah Winemucca, In some cases it only tells a portion of the

woman's life, For example, the introduction to the Margaret Brown section says "You probably already know about Molly Brown fecause of her famous trip on the Titanic in.
" But the narratives of her experiences only go throughand the Afterword section doesn't mention the Titanic, I would have liked to read about why she is one of the most famous survivors of the Titanic, What did she do that was special

The book whetted my interest in finding out more about these women, but I expected a lot more.
Even in onlypages. A very informative book about some unique and hardworking women who were right there alongside the men in the beginning of Western Civilization making a name for themselves.
Inspiring! Step back in time and experience the spirit of the West through the eyes of five courageous women: Clara Brown, Sara Winnemucca, Nellie Cashman, Isabella Bird, and Margaret Brown.
From a newly freed slave to a refined Englishwoman, from a Native American to a miners wife, these women, vastly different at first glance, have much to teach us about perseverance, surviving hardship, and living courageously.

Women Icons of the West features a unique fictional first and thirdperson narrative that allows readers to get to know these women through their actions and thoughts, as well as the observations and opinions of those who knew them.
Sidebars link the fictional narrative to documented historical events, and a bibliography offers resources for further research on each woman,
