would recommend this book to those people with varying interests in Philippine mythology and folklore, It has some touch of history too if I may add, The author did well in blending these elements Im not sure if this is the right term, together.
Overall, I enjoyed both booksamp, I loved the twists, the fight scenes and how the author portrayed the interconnectedness of local and foreign myths, Never were they separate in the first place,
May the author continue sustaining the storyline in the next installment, Surely it would take time Hopefully not too long, but if its worth reading then Im willing to wait,
Hmm Lots of good stuff above, Right
Hopefully in future editions they would pay more attention to spelling, There were a lot of typos and I almost wanted to email them and point out those errors, I want to like this book, As in REALLY like it, I did, actually, at leastof it, The sequel to Naermyth started off to be super actionpacked, Compared to the first, the authors growth was evident in every page, from the research right down to the fluid dialogues, I found myself turning page after page, . . until I got to the middle part where it substantially became boring that I wasnt even sure if Id ever finish reading.
One thing that really made me feel
iffy was the supposed romance between Athena and River, The man was not in the story until way past half of the book, And Athena was as romantic as a pile of rocks, I was so frustrated at the romance angle when there wasnt even something remotely romantic between these two characters, Things only got to be interesting when the climax of the story was building up, right to the part where the characters were trying to find ways to defeat a seemingly undefeated villain.
That one I breezed through quite easily,
I do loved the world building that went behind this story, The logic behind aether and spirit, the puzzle that was the Ibig ng Bathala, . . it was brilliant. The end was also gripping, but if theres going to be ard book, I hope its not gonna be that thick with the plot dragging endlessly.
I will still read it and I still am a fan of Karen Francisco, I do hope therd installment would get proofread better as well, This one had a lot of typos and grammar errors that slipped through the cracks, Will not finish. Stopped at pagelast year pa, This book, while better than Naermyth, still suffers from the same problems as the first one, The errors kinda take away from the reading experience and I just don't have enough energy to ignore them : Since Avenida released a revised edition of Naermyth which I will read btw since I like the world of this series, I'm hoping Revelations will also have a new edition.
I will probably get back to this in the future, but it's goodbye for now, Waiting for the third book!!!! Finally got to finish the second installment which I got from the recent MIBF, Hopefully there's a minisequel for this, as I fwas so eager to follow everything that happened to Athena Dizon,
Only downside of this release is that there are so many typographical errors, I am patiently waiting for the sequel, OH GOSH I NEED ANOTHER BOOK, Plot twists on point. Karen Francisco graduated with a Bachelors degree in Political Science from the Ateneo de Manila University, After a brief but very memorable stint in law school, she finally pursued her love of the arts at the University of the Philippines with a second degree in Visual Communications.
Francisco started writing Naermyth while interning in a government office, hoping an apocalypse would spice up her paper pushing routine, She now lives north of the Ruins in a stone lair with her family and fears the day shell meet an actual tikbalang.
