Discover The King Of The Castle Brought To You By Anita Charles Published As Paper Edition
the two Warren sistersVelda and SueVelda was the beauty, and Sue not precisely the plain one, but not nearly as dazzling as Velda.
When their uncle died and left them a chalet in Austria, Velda was not really enthusiastic until she met the Graf von Speitz, their handsome neighbour and owner of the Schloss Speitz.
He had only one arm, as the result of an accident, but Velda was prepared to overlook this because of his wealth, and the thought of becoming a countess.
But Axel von Speitz met Sue first, . . in the woods surrounding his estate, And the meeting was a memorable one in both their lives, This is a good old fashioned romance with an Austrian Graf/Count and a sweet little English maiden, Sue meets Axel in the woods below his castle when she's trespassing and is discovered by his very large dog.
She feels an instant attraction to this dark and sombre man with the scarred face and missing arm, Overwhelmed by the grandeur of his home and his sophisticated mother and cousins Sue is glad to return home to the small Chalet she and her sister Velda inherited from an uncle.
Velda, a glamorous model, is frustrated to learn of the opportunity her sister wasted, When the Graf turns up several weeks later to invite them to dinner she immediately begins a campaign to paint herself as a
womanly woman and portray Sue as an immature and difficult child.
She even goes so far as to suggest Sue has a repugnance for deformity in order to ensure the Graf does not look at Sue favourably.
The magic moments Sue shares with Axel that first night end badly when she mentions his injury and his response is savage.
From there Sue can only look on as he seems to court her lovely sister, TAking refuge with his charming cousins opens up more avenues for misunderstanding until Sue is in despair, believing her sister to be on the verge of marriage to the man she loves.
Naturally all comes clear in the end with some very moving moments as he accepts that he will no longer be a stranger to happiness due to his injury.
I really enjoyed this story which the romance remained sustained throughout, The romance is of its time and is quite tame but it is enjoyable nonetheless,

The heroine acts a bit immature but she is nice enough, And the other woman is a stinker and is also the heroine's older sister, He put her through way too much because of his own issues, Not a happy ending in my book, ALso, her sister should have been shot out of a cannon, One of many pseudonyms used by Ida Julia Pollock, née Crowe, Mrs. Pollack was a British writer of several short stories andromance novels that were published under her married name and under a number of different pseudonyms: Joan M.
