Capture Conquering The Dark Axe (The Northern Knights, #2) Translated By Amber Dane Conveyed As Electronic Format

on Conquering the Dark Axe (The Northern Knights, #2)

second book in Amber Dane's Northern Knights series had me intrigued from the very beginning, Rourke's reputation as the Dark Axe was right on, A dark character, with many issues to overcome, Rourke seems harsh and unlikable at first, His treatment of Lady Alexa is almost unfathomable at times, . . yet, the author succeeds in turning our hearts around so much that we forgive him for his medieval abuse towards his betrothed, Lady Alexa is spunky, fiesty and oh so likable, I enjoyed her ability to stand up to such a scary man, And the way she wields a sword Love it, It's not often that we get to see women in the medieval romances able to stand up and fight, Though a different era, she reminded me of one of my favorite characters, Elizabeth Bennet, from Pride and Prejudice, No dainty lady was she,

I am so looking forward to the third book in Ms, Dane's Northern Knights series. After reading the first two, I know she won't disappoint, In fact I'm sure she will exceed all my expectations, Keep writing Ms. Dane. You have a loyal fan in me, I absolutely loved this book, I loved the hero and the heroine, I love the medieval Saxon/Norman setting, this is my absolute favorite setting to read in a romance, Amber Dane's Conquering the Dark Axe reads like an oldfashioned bodice ripper, He actually ties her up to the bed and chains her to the bed when he thinks she will escape, Loved it! They have a lot of

issues to work out and through a major portion of the book it seems like one wants to try and the other doesn't.
The book absolutely kept my attention, I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Hot and steamy too, just like I like them! A match made in hell

Stubborn and Defiant
Hardened by a lost love before, battlescarred Rourke Thorsson accepts his fatehe must take to wife the sister of his dead betrothed.
But the fiery Saxon hellion has not accepted hers and fights him every inch of the way, She possessed an unbreakable spirit none the likes of which hed ever encountered and Rourke is determined to bend her to his rule no matter what it takes

Fearless
With her sister now dead, strong willed Lady Alexa is forced to wed in her stead to one of the most feared men in Northern England the Dark Axe.
The Norman warlord demands her total surrender and bounds her to him in more ways than one, And she vows to kill him before giving herself over to the unbridled passion he ignites within her,

Yet when haunting secrets unfold and old enemies return to exact their pound of flesh, Alexa's heart is tested and she is not sure if its strong enough to save them.
It was fine.

The hero starts out a little nastier than most, In fact, he stays pretty mean, not truly willing to give in to his feelings for his wife until his own life is nearly taken, Then again the heroine doesn't make it easy, it takes a while for her to learn when to stop pushing, After that, we basically get a wrapup on their story and setting for the next book in the series, I don't have any immediate plans to jump into, Really enjoyed this story. Characters were very good and so was the plot, Will read the others in this series, I read this out of order but would be fine as a stand alone, . . But I immediately purchased "Gem of Gravane " after finishing this one and cannot wait for Darc 's story hopefully we don't have to wait to long, . . I was pulled into so many emotions while reading this which was just what I wanted, Lately I've gotten lucky with great reads, This had it all a plot, villians, action, suspense, awesome Alpha male, romance well the type expected of those times I guess and literally heart renching moment's, . . I loved every minute of it, . I do want to advise there are some parts where the displining was a bit harsh but I felt due to the circumstances I wasn't bothered by it at all!.
. . Amber Dane is now on my fav list
When you take together the brutal backdrop and a hero with some major relationship issues, itÛªs a wonder there is a love story at all.
But there is and when it comes, it is beautiful, This is the second of Amber DaneÛªs Northern Knights, and much darker if you can imagine than the Gem of Gravane, The plots are somewhat similar, but the way the heroes handle their situations is vastly different, Rourke is cruel to Alexa from the moment they meet through a good portion of the story, and while he tries to redeem himself in the last portion of the book, he does not make it easy for Alexa or the reader to like him.
To show that he is trying to make up for his previous thoughtlessness which almost got Alexa killed, he gives her back her sword, This is a good thing and symbolic of the trust he now has in her, but he might want to redo that horrid wedding and give her a memory instead of a nightmare.

The book has a strong plot and well developed main characters, Rourke and Alexa were strong and stubborn, Goran and Darc were loyal friends, and the villains all of them were vile, Not a bad read.,stars.Stars

The story line was actually quite good, This book was only a couple of bucks so my expectations werent high but I was in the mood for some medieval romance warrior stuff, It wasnt just about the hero and heroine falling in love,

Alexa is the sister that was promised to Rourke, Now that Alexas sister is dead, the king has decided that Alexa will marry Rourke in her stead, Only Alexa has been raised more like a boy and has never intended to marry, She wont make this easy on Rourke, And Rourke has scars so deep he wont let anyone in,

A good chunk of the story is how these two try to hurt one another because they are scared how they feel and dont want to be vulnerable.
Another aspect of the story are that someone at Barnett manor is trying to kill Alexa or Rourke or both, And yet another aspect of the story is that a part of Rourkes past that he thought long dead comes back and uses trickery and deceit into acquiring Rourke for his nefarious purposes.

At times the lengths that Alexa and Rourke went to hurt one another got tiresome, They always regretted what they would say, but too many times the author noted that the characters were too mad to care at the time,

Overall, it was enjoyable,
Good

Enjoyed a strong woman with a sharp tongue is forced to wed her sister betrothed upon her death, With hate for these norman invaders Alexa fights till she learns to love her husband and trust him, Yet it not just Alexa whom get a lesson on love and trust even the dark axe must be tamed, Fantastic book. I can't believe I downloaded this book, and even more incredible is the fact I liked it,
Cheesy selfpub cover.
Cheesy title "conquering the Dark Axe"!

But it was really good!
It reminded me of the bodice rippers from the early's that I read as a teen,

As you can guess from the title "Dark Axe", the hero is an Uber Alpha male Medieval warrior.

He has been hurt in love, and now is pretty mean and nasty,
I cringed at some of the things he did to our poor heroine locked her in room, chained her to the bed, and semiraped her.

This book is not for the faint hearted,
I really liked that the heroine is not a stereotypical gorgeous damsel in distress type character,

Cheap on Kindle, and totally worth it if ur in the mood for trashy romance, It was intense

I was so glued from the moment i Started, It was intense just wondering I had to stop my myself a few times or night would just finish it innights, OK, so I feel like I should knock this down a star, The hero and heroine had such a contentious relationship! Wow! They fought the entire book and just when it felt like they were making progress, BLAM! they were right back to the start again.

How did they ever fall in love Maybe, just maybe they took the time to see what was underneath all of the scowling, scuffling, roaring, and yelling.
Thank goodness the sex between them was amazing, It was really all they had that was good at first,

The hero, Rourke, was justified in his initial treatment of Alexa, She was pure hellion. Yes, if someone came to take over my lands, I might feel the way she did, BUT, if the overlord proved me wrong by treating my people kindly and doing the right thing, then I should probably give him the benefit of the doubt,

Alexa doesn't do this even when she knows it is logical, I was kind of annoyed with her,

So, for much of the book they parry back and forth,
Meanwhile, in between fighting, they have to figure out who is behind murders of some of Alexa's people, including her father and sister,

This is actually solved halfway through the book, Later, another enemy, intervenes and threatens Rourke's life,

Overall, I liked it, I just wnated it to be a little less contentious, Very very good!!! Let's call it one and a half, The editing and grammar are atrocious, And that was no surprise, given how bad both of those things were in book one of the series, And yet, I still bought and read this one, . . the characters and storyline somehow grab and keep your interest, I am not entirely sure how the dialogue is pretty terrible, But somehow, some way, you end up caring about what will happen, I am embarrassed to admit it, but I will probably end up reading book three, too, Then I will ask Santa to give the author a really good editor for Christmas, Story RatingStars

I truly wish there were more of these types of Medieval Romances out that are offered in ebook form.
Amber Dane wrote a really good romance that I thoroughly enjoyed from the first page to the last,

The theme of this book has been done many of times but it's a theme that has always' attracted me to medieval romances, The theme is the kings merciless Knight get's awarded and given land with a bride in tow, Rourke the hero is feared far and wide, they don't call him The Dark Axe for nothing, When he arrives there to take his place and his bride, his only intention is to get his heir from her and nothing more, Alexa the heroine is a proud feisty woman with her mind set on getting rid of the Norman Bastard that the King has ordered her to wed, She is not afraid of this HUGE and handsome warrior of a man with his scary frowns and bellowing voice, She defies him at every turn even taking a sword to his throat a time or two during this story, She never backs down and he just gets more ruthless towards her and her behavior to the point that he ends up tying her to her bed and later after she attempts to escape he goes as far as to using chains to secure her.
The night after they wed, he consummates the marriage, taking her maidenhead and claiming her his bride, Even though they have hatred for each other, the lust their body's feel for each other is not denied, The love scenes are very sensuous and this story has just the right amount of heat that I so enjoy in my romances,

Of course with most of these medieval romances their are plenty of evil villains running around to contend with, The action this added to the story was really good and made it hard for me to put the book down, As each one is dealt with and both of our Hamph's have been in harms way their feelings for each other grow, I must add that if your a faint of heart reader some of the scenes may be a bit violent for some readers,

At the end of course we get our HEA and an epilog which makes me happy, I do so look forwards to the next book in this series but I must admit that this is bookand I read them out of order so I of course plan on getting bookGem Of Gravane in the very near future and reading it too.
I usually don't read a series out of order but I can say that in doing so in this case was fine and if this book sounds good for you and you want to read it I can say that it reads fine as a stand alone.
Be warned though because if you do read Conquering The Dark Axe and enjoy it as much as I have your going to want to read more of Amber Danes Conquering the Dark Axe's too.

I recommend Conquering The Bad Axe to any romance readers who have read and enjoyed Bodice Ripper style romances from the's, Romance:.
Steaminess:
Action/suspense:
Overall:

This was very much better compared to the first book, There were still some grammatical errors here and there but otherwise it was good,

I liked Rourke's character very much, Alexa was alright but at times she seemed immature, The action suspense part of the story was interesting and I liked reading to see what would happen,

But on the negative side, there were a lot of similarities between this story and the first in the series, Also, Alexa's mood swings were really starting to get to me about half way through the book,

So I guess overall it was good, All things MedievalHistorical medieval romance,
