Educational, nice paperdolllike illustrations, but just not interesting, And without that you have nothing,
Age: K
Religion: Jewish
Seasons: Summer
This would be a nice book to prepare Jewish children for a Jewish sleepover camp.
Unfortunately, the book is a bit tricky, It starts off appearing for all children, with no religious implications, but then it starts describing in detail what Jewish children do during Shabbat, which might arise a lot of questions to a nonJewish listener/reader.
SPOILER ALERT: The kid did take a bath at camp, Very misleading. This kid gets it THis is a tricky book, at first I thought it would be great to introduce the idea of sleep away camp to children, but then I realized with the ending few pages focusing on Shabat, this is more geared towards Jewish children.
I liked how the mom tried to show the boy that home is just like camp, No Baths At Camp by Tamar Fox, illustrated by Natalia Vasquez
When Maxs mother tells him its time for a bath, he proceeds to list all the activities he partook of while at camp and how none consisted of taking a bath.
Little did he know, the water balloon fights, swimming, and such snuck in a bit, as well as the shower towards weeks end.
Filled with devotional fun and cutout style artwork, its an entertaining read for the boys who prefer the outdoorsy smell of fun.
SM A little Jewish boy Max grumbles when his mom fills the tub and tells her he wishes he was back at camp, because there are no baths at camp.
The book goes through the days of the week, describing daily camp activities, and shows the Jewish Shabbat.
The illustrations show that there are many other ways to wash up than in the bath tub.
Can be used to discuss other religions amp customs, days of the week, camp and baths versus other kinds of washing up.
"There are no baths at camp!" says Max, when his mother starts filling the tub, But as he recounts his weeks activities, he realizes that there were many fun ways he got clean at summer camp.
