on Clark the Shark

if only self regulation were as easy as "be cool" and put it into rhyme, But appreciate the exploration of diversity in the "classroom" This is a children's book that I read to my twin boys, I really liked this book, This is the first time I picked this book up and read it, My boys did enjoy it, so I will most likely be rereading it to them a lot, Clark the Shark is a great readaloud picture book, with fun rhythm and rhyme, from the everpopular Bruce Hale and Guy Francis,

Clark is a shark with zing, bang, and BOOM, Clark zooms into school, crashes through the classroom, and is rowdy at recess, Clark loves lifebut when his enthusiasm is too much for his friends, Clark's teacher, Mrs, Inkydink, helps him figure out a way to tone it down,

Clark the Shark celebrates boisterous enthusiasmand knowing when it's time for indoor voices! This is a great book to read to children, It shows that you can be yourself and still follow the rules, It also shows that there is someone for everyone, Have kids students that struggle with following the rules and having selfcontrol Read this book and they can use Clark the Sharks rhymes to help them remember what to do.
“If the teachers talking, dont go walking, ” Very fun story. Clark dosen't understand why the kids aren't wanting to play with him, His teacher explains that he does everything too hard, He tries to solve the problem but doesn't succeed at firstmunching everyone's lunches again and pushing the swing too hard again, But then he recognizes the rhyme in the teacher's words, and starts making up his ownand it works, I love that Clark doesn't ask his teacher what is wrong with HIM as some kids do and I love how his teacher responds, Ultimately, Clark learns how to interact but still be himself, I also love that Clark pays it forward and helps the new student, Sid the Squid,

This year, with both virtual and in person classes as well as having to push into the classrooms instead of holding class in the library, I have found myself shaking up my beginning of year routine.
I started using Clark the Shark, read by Chris Pine on Storyline Online as mynd story forst grader'snd lesson and Kindergarten'sst, It is a great fit for beginning of the year and learning how to interact, and several of the kids started repeating some of Clark's rhymes, Win. Win. This is a book about inclusion and exclusion wherever outsiders are disdained T, A. Terrell, p.

The resolution here entails loud, hungry, thieving, large, excitable characters learning to restrain their noxious tendencies enough to mingle socially and academically with peers of quieter, calmer, smaller appetites.
This is called staying 'cool,' a word common and appropriate now for several hundreds of years sitelink etymonline. com/word/cool. Valuable lesson on how to slow down and enjoy the things you love, Clark the Shark reminded me of a few people I know, Lol!!! Not all children's picture books need to have a message, or be so socially aware, This is that book. I really enjoyed Clark the Shark, Plus, there is a nice message here, Clark the Shark, written by Bruce Hale and illustrated by Guy Francis, is about a kid shark named Clark who has selfcontrol issues, The other kids at school begin to get annoyed with him and not like him because he plays too rough, eats too much, and it too much to handle in class.
His teacher, Mrs. Inkydink, tells him that there is a time and a place for everything and as he gains more selfcontrol, he begins to make friends again,

I would highly recommend using this book in schools as a read aloud, I think this book would be appropriate to use in grades K, It teaches many wonderful lessons, It teaches kids that they need to have control over their bodies and their actions, If you play too hard with someone and hurt them, you need to apologize, calm yourself down, and try not to do it again, This would come in handy at recess and PE, It also teaches kids to be considerate of one another, It talks about keeping control of yourself in class so you do not disturb your other classmates and their reading, But overall, it teaches kids that its cool to be excited about school! Throughout the whole book, Clark is ecstatic about school, and kids will learn from this book.

One of the most imp lesson from this book:
"There's a time amp a place for everything, Sometimes you stay cool.
But sometimes a shark's gotta do what a shark's gotta do"

Seriously, everything happens on its time amp at its place, There's no hurry. We just have to have some patience! Nothing's ever achieved by taking stress or showing anxiety, This is an entertaining book that teaches about selfcontrol,

I enjoyed listening to this book narrated aloud on the sitelinkTumblebooks website,

interesting quote:

"There's a time and a place for everything, " Clark the Shark was a VERY enthusiastic pupil at Theodore Roosterfish Elementary School, In fact, he was the most enthusiastic pupil in Mrs, Inkydink's class. Unfortunately, although he always meant well, his hyperactivity and thoughtlessness often resulted in the other pupils avoiding him at lunchtime and recess, His teacher knew not to give up on him, however, and slowly Clark learned to control himself enough that others wanted to be around him,

An engaging story about learning some selfcontrol, while also staying true to yourself, Clark the Shark highlights the important idea that sometimes behavioral problems at school are the product of too much energy, and illustrates the fact that children can learn the skills necessary to not disrupt their classrooms.
The artwork by Guy Francis is colorful and appealing, in a cartoonlike way, and suits the highenergy story, Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about hyperactive kids, Per mynd graders: I loved it because it was so much fun, It was awesome because Clark the Shark was crunching food in his mouth, Clark the Shark was funny because he was playing too rough, The book was brilliant because it was funny, It was so much awesome because Clark the Shark was playing with the octopus, Slowing down amp being aware, “Theres a time and place for everything” Self control isn't an easy concept for children to learn, For Clark the Shark he has a real problem with boundaries and knowing when to curb his enthusiasm a bit, The nice part about this book is it doesn't take the stance you have to always suppress your excitement, We're shown there's a definite time and place for this kind of wild emotion, But being able to keep your cool during certain times is a valuable skill and one everyone around you appreciate,

I think I would have benefitted from this book back when I was a kid as I also had trouble knowing when to be still and when you it was okay to embrace whatever you are feeling.
My class and I enjoyed reading this book, It is a fun way to talk about and introduce classroom rules, Clark is funny and many of my students can relate to his troubles adjusting to school, Great for primary grade students, I gave this book rating abecause l think it over all is a good book, and it teaches you a lesson and not all books do that, so l thinks that the lesson l learned was that you might be really excited about it things and love things so much, but even though things might seem exciting, try to remember to stay cool.
So adorable. :D This is a cute tale about a shark who has to learn about selfcontrol, This is great forst tord grade, "Clark the Shark" by Bruce Hale is about a young shark who LOVES school, He gets so excited in class jumps up and down in his seat, he smells all the good food at lunch and ends up eating it all at once, and he plays so hard at recess that he sometimes breaks toys.
After a while, Clark's friends don't want to sit near him, eat lunch with him, or even play with him, When a discouraged Clark asks his teacher what to do, Mrs, Inkydink says that "There's a time and place for everything" and that Clark needs to remember to "Stay cool", Clark eventually figures out different rhymes that help him calm down while at school, At the end of the day, a new student comes to class, This student is even bigger than Clark and plays even harder, Clark plays with the new student as hard as he can and then teaches him how to "Stay cool",

This book is a fantastic read for children, It has a very entertaining plot, but also teaches some great lessons in rhyming, word play, and manners,
When Clark the Shark discovers that rhymes help him "Stay cool", he gives many examples like "When teacher's talking, don't go walking" and "Only munch your own lunch".
These fun little sayings could be used to teach students about rhyming and help them come up with their own rhymes!
There's also some great word play with nonsense words like "upsydownsy", "spinnamajig" and "tailwhumpalumpus".
These words are very exciting for kids and encourage wordplay that can be very good for language development,
The overall theme of the book is important as well, It teaches that everything has a time and a place, That sometimes we need to be considerate of others, But that it's also okay to be completely and totally ourselves, or as Clark says "Sometimes a shark's gotta do what a shark's gotta do", "Clark the Shark" has brightly colored watercolor illustrations that depict a shark's struggle with being himself while at school, Clark even says, "Loved everything too much, . . too much shark. " When his teacher realized Clark was upset, she approached him and reminded him, "There's a time and place for everything, . the rule is to stay cool, " Once Clark realized that rhymes might help him remember the rules for school, "Maybe if I make a rhyme, I will remember every time, " After Clark worked on several different rhymes for the rules, he remembered them all fairly well, Things were getting better and then everyone was afraid of the new kid, Sid the squid, Clark made sure that the other students welcomed him, "He just wants to play, Let's find a way!" Clark makes up a new game and the Sid settles down, Clark reminds him, "If you want to come to school, you've got to stay cool, " Clark learns to calm his own excitement enough to be able to help the new student, He is happy to have helped and continues to remember his rhymes to keep him cool all the time,

A lesson well written that a reader will learn as they are read to or as they read, It is not a normal thing for a shark to go to school or wear clothes, however, the creative use of personification and the idea of putting the animals in a school setting, makes it relatable to younger children who attend class.
Misbehaving or being overly excited can distract the class, which is not good for everyone, The teacher shows Clark a better way to enjoy what he likes while also keeping his excitement under control, Students should be able to share their feelings, or emotions, as long as they do it in a nondisruptive way, This book might be seen as a tad controversial because it starts out with him being isolated due to his hyperactivity, or high level of energy, however, the teacher's suggestions help Clark to realize that he was scaring his friends who did not share his same excitement.
Once he learned to control it, more students saw that he was not doing it on purpose and they accepted him, When the new kid showed up at the playground, the other children saw him as weird and different while Clark saw him as someone new who needed guidance, Growth, understanding, and friendship are all great concepts that this book does well to promote, "Clark the Shark" is a book with a full circle idea that showcases how the proper approach can have a person learn then understand enough to assist someone else because they were having the same struggles, themselves.
Okey dokey. I must confess that I actually watched this sitelinkas a video on YouTube, mainly because Chris Pine was reading it! :D Chris Pine is one of my favourite actors.
I did actually enjoy this story, which was about a shark who's very rowdy and overenthusiastic in his schoolclasses, The moral of the story is, that you can enjoy things but you must show consideration towards others and their feelings, I think a lot of people, adults included, could learn a lot from this tale to be honest, hehe,

I thought the story was very cute with a nice moral, and the artwork was also really nice, I loved all the pictures of fish, as I love fish anyway and even have some as pets, I particularly loved the pictures of the little clownfish very cute, Chris Pine's rendition of the tale was really good, of course, and very funny, too, It's funny how I'm reading/watching a lot of stories intended for children of late, even though I'm in my late thirties with no kids, I suppose that it just goes to show that a good story can appeal to all age groups,

TexttoTeaching Connection

I enjoyed reading this book, The rhyming used by the author was fun and the illustrations helped to enhance the story,

As for the texttoteaching connection, the author does a good job of providing a lesson on how to behave in school, This will be an excellent resource in early elementary classes at the beginning of the school year to help students understand why the class has rules and why they are important.
Teachers can use the rhymes that Clark used, such as "when the teacher is talking, don't go walking", and incorporate them into the classroom rules

to help students remember.
A second activity with this book would be a writing activity in which the students make their own rhymes about things they feel are important, Those rhymes could include rules, family, school or any number of things, .
