Access The Soldiers Bride Narrated By Elizabeth Lord Presented As Mobi
Soldiers Bride documents Lettys life, beginning when she is a freshfacedyear old from the East End, cocky and brash, till when she is middleaged.
Her life changes dramatically over the course of the book, notably by the death of loved ones and the devastating impact of the First World War.
I really enjoyed reading about Letty, She is determined and likeable, and as a reader you really get behind her desire to achieve her dreams a shop of her own and the man she truly loves.
But many things stand in her way, family opposition, difference in social class, and the war, Letty must overcome all these obstacles to achieve happiness,
I rated this book onlydue to the long dragged out romance, David and Letty have a rocky start, but once theyre established theyre a nice couple, though for much of the time it feels more like a onesided obsession for Letty.
They never achieve their happy ending until right of the end of the novel, their on and off again romance spanning overyears, They are never able to get married due to constant obstacles, which sometimes felt more of a plot device than a real conflict,
Another reason I didnt rate this as highly was that I really hated Lettys dad as a character, I struggled to connect with him as a grieving man, and instead it felt he blamed everyone else, and especially Letty for his problems.
He was rude, selfish and ungrateful, and it really made me wish Letty had more of a backbone to let him stew in his own misery.
Overall, a decent read, I enjoyed that this book
discusses both wars, as not many historical fictions do focus on both, I just wish some characters were more likeable than they were, and that it didnt drag on for quite so long, Well that was a lot more angsty and overwrought than I was expecting, Also a great example of why romance novels set in the pre and interwar periods are somewhat thin on the ground, Torn between love and duty, Letty Bancroft longs to be married, but her father has other ideashe wants his daughter to stay at home and help run his East End shop.
Heartbroken, Letty must remain unwed while her sweetheart goes off to fight in France, But her love affair has had consequences that will see her more determined than ever to be a soldiers bride, . . Boring mediocre characters that I have absolutely no interest in so therefore the plot is meaningless and I wasn't able to finish it anyway.
Away to read a book that captivates and entrances me from the get go! This book is weird in the way it drew me in, even though it was annoying me with its cattiness and petty arguments! The amount of times I wanted to shake one of the characters for acting so selfcentred and selfish.
and yet I wanted to keep reading and reading,
The ending really annoyed me as well as it seemed to not be the end, but it felt like the author said "I've had enough now" and just ended it but like I said, I couldn't stop reading so gave it three, when in reality it should probably be less!!
