A gorgeously witty, scorching and tender story of a rock god and a librarian who reunite years after a blazing two week liaison.
They were young and silly, but now theyve grown up and cant deny theres still an intense energy between them.
Even though rock and librarians seem to be in vogue, this first book in the Hurley Boys series cannot be mistaken this for the quintessential rock star story.
Sure theres sex lots of sizzling hot scenes, drugs not the main character and rock and roll we get to follow the entire process from making an album to going on tour.
But this is an incredibly slow and sweet rediscovery of two people who met once and now have grown and matured.
I loved Patrick “Paddy” Hurley, A charming, flirty farmer turned successful rocker who loves his family, has gone through personal struggles as well as heartbreaking battles with his brothers brought on by the lifestyle they lead.
And now, this sexy alpha with an inner gentleman is determined to win Natalies heart and trust.
But Natalie, who has spent years building the life she wants, where control reigns, far from the chaos of her childhood is weary of what might Paddys way of life might bring.
But her strength, naughtiness and passion for helping are the perfect blend to anchor Paddy through the storms life presents.
I really enjoyed how Lauren conveys Nat and Paddys gradual, honest and mature romance developing their characters as they navigated the sometimes jarring but mostly swoony road to happiness.
“His voice was caramel and a little bit of smoke, His eyes went halflidded as he began to sing about skin and curves, Of eyes as blue as the summer sky and hands and shoulders that held the weight of everyones sins
It was about being burned alive by need, by desire and love.
About holding something so beautiful and strong in his hands that he could barely breathe, ”
I also appreciated all the supporting characters, Presenting the tight bonds in his family and the connections she formed with her friends was a sure way for me to anticipate the books to come.
Although the plot is wonderful and packed with incredibly endearing characters that feel real and leap out to carve a place in your heart and who I look forward to know more of, the narrative felt at times choppy and at times too prolonged.
And even though we read about the entire album production process and the descriptions where pretty good, it also failed to transport me to

what Ive felt going to rock concerts.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review from Netgalley, The excerpts are from that copy,

As well as Twitter It feels strange to knock a book for being TOO realistic, but that's how I've been feeling after reading Dane's contemporary erotic romance.
The novel is told largely through dialogue, with little narrative it feels as if we're sitting in, listening to and occasionally watching real people's lives.
There isn't much of a story or plot, though, to give those lives shape or form or meaning.
In real life, we don't expect romances to unfold in a shapely way, but in a book, I prefer some sense of logical progression, some sense of change and/or movement as a novel unfolds.
Hence, the too realistic problem,
Former wild girl now cautious librarian Natalie runs into megastar rocknroller Paddy Hurley, a man with whom she had a scalding, if shortlived affair back in the day.
Paddy wants to take up where they left off not sure why, except that the sex was smoking, but Natalie is more than a little reluctant, fearing the wild ways of the typical rock star.
But Paddy woos her with some charm, some wine, and some pleasureboat cruising, and the two begin dating.
One relationship blowup happens when Paddy gets drunk during a winetasting Natalie's perpetually reforming but always falling off the wagon alcoholic father has been and continues to be the emotional bane of her existence another when Paddy thinks Natalie is turning to his brother instead of him when tabloid trouble hits.
But they manage to eventually talk through their troubles, accept each other's "baggage," recognize each other's "triggers," and take responsibility for their own shit a phrase that is repeated so often that it feels like we're in therapy, rather than in a romance novel.
No real character arcs here Natalie was in therapy before the book started, and worked out all her issues, while Paddy doesn't really seem to have any issues, or plot arc.
Just a romance arc, and a fairly weak one at that, But yes, the sex scenes are steamy, . . posted: sitelinkHappily Ever After Reads

Natalie Clayton, a small town librarian and Paddy Hurley, a member of a successful rock band with his brothers, hooked up years ago forweeks that neither of them have ever forgotten.
Natalie isnt that same person anymore and shes worked hard to leave that wild, partying girl behind and takes her job and quiet life very seriously.
Shes cut out people from her life who have dragged her down, mainly her own family, and shes surrounded herself with good, close friends and is happy.
The last thing she wants to do is upset this life shes made by letting Paddy come crashing back into it.
Hes still recording music, still in the public spotlight and shes not interested in being a part of that life anymore.
Paddy has other ideas though and wants one date with Natalie, And she makes him work for it, which is always fun to see play out!
Theres something about Natalie that helps to ground Paddy.
The only other person whos been able to do that is his older brother Ezra, Paddy isnt one to take no for answer, so he shows up at the coffee shop that Natalie hits every morning and doesnt let up until she gives him a chance.
They start things out slow and I liked seeing their relationship progress, There are some nice moments between not only them as a couple, but plenty of scenes with Paddys rock n roll brothers and Nats friends as well.
Lauren Dane always brings the sexy to her books and Nat and Paddy are no exception.
For as much as I enjoyed their romance, there were a few things that bugged me, Theres a lot of talk about button pushing and how it relates to Natalie fitting into Paddys world and his public persona with his fans.
It also relates to Paddy needing to be needed by Natalie, So of course with all this talk, someones button get pushed causing a big angst filled fight between Paddy and Natalie.
And the whole scene surrounding this fight just didnt work for me at all, It almost felt like Paddys reaction came out of nowhere and his argument just didnt make sense and even felt out of character.
Unfortunately, this comes at the end so it soured my feelings on the story being left with this fight so close to the HEA, which of course we get.
The supporting cast is well done and I really enjoyed getting to know the Hurley brothers and look forward to more from them.
Their stories are built up nicely and Im anxious to get to know them as well as Nats best friend Tuesday as the series progresses.
While I did like the majority of The Best Kind of Trouble, there were a few things that I didnt necessarily enjoy and it took away from the story a little bit for me.
But Im a sucker for a series centered around brothers, so Ill be checking out the next book as I did really enjoy getting to know all the Hurleys.
