would give this two and a half, The space vampire action seems at times as if it can actually be avoided, but in reality there is no such luck for those in want of a tamer adventure!
The story is both frightening and thrilling, with pulsepounding escapades and sideescapades that should satisfy most reader's adventure glands.
I always have liked to read this book, though usually with someone else close by! It is among my favorites in the Choose Your Own Adventure series.
the adventures that I went through when I was bored I just read these books over and over again you would never get to the end of the story.

all my childhood, I probably only read betweenandbooks from the Choose Your Own Adventure franchise, so while I did like them, I was never a hugely devoted fan.
But something about this one really stood out to me, and you can bet that just about all the makebelieve adventures I had with my friends on the playground after reading this were "vampires from outer space" themed.
Normally I would read whatever CYOA books I could find at libraries, This was the only one I actually purchased a copy of, used, years later once I reached adulthood, Actually not as cheeseball as the title would suggest, Good gamebook choices make sense, and the plot can get creepy at times, What is fun about these books is that the reader actually becomes the story's central character so you get to make decisions and create an adventure.
You can end up reading one story in many different ways,
This book is followed by a sequel, Vampire Invaders, which I loved, However, this is definitely the stronger of the two in my opinion, Where VI took place mostly on Earth, this Space Vampire's setting takes you across the galaxy, even to the vampires' home planet, It's got a very creepy and eerie atmosphere and gets pretty dark for the series, It's undeniably corny, but still great fun! CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!!!

Oh man, What an adventure I had! There I was, a young star pilot grad, and right out of the academy they've dropped a bombshell on me: We're being invaded by Vampires! Space vampires.


They need me, I'm their only hope. Do I accept, do I take the cushy boring assignment at the edge of the solar system instead FYI, that might not be so cushy after all

Thus begins the adventure of a thousand lifetimes.
You can relive it over and over again I read through all the branch points I could find, but ended up missing some, even retracing my steps I can't find where I went wrong.
I'm about to diagram the thing in excel so I can see what I've missed,

Without checking, I'm guessing there are aboutor so ways you can take this adventure, What I liked about it, well, that goes back to when I was a kid and I read some of these books, I have no idea which ones I had, something about a cave, magic, I don't know, But I recall being very frustrated because there didn't seem to be any logic to what would produce a positive vs negative result,

I got into a cave, the cave tunnel bifurcates ahead, go left Go right If I chose left, for example, I might turn to the appropriate page and find out I was eaten by the monster that lives in that tunnel.
Again, no way I could have foreseen that when I started, It makes for a frustrating reading experience, even for a kid,

But this one, not so bad, My favorite track was the one where I avoided the vampires altogether and took an assignment exploring a world several light years from earth as part of an exploratory mission.
We've stumbled upon the Vampire homeworld!!! So, I chose to end up just asking them to not come to our solar system and they are like, "Okay, cool.
We won't"

I win,

And that's brilliant, I had all these options for taking the way of violence and bravery, but didn't need any of it, Caution and diplomacy won the day! Of course, I also had taken other paths that ended with me winning to, with violence and bravery, but still, it was nice to see that I had peaceful options.


All in all, as good as something like this can be, It really makes me want to try my hand at writing one of these, I think I always ended up getting killed at the end, . .
