Take Research Methods In Applied Linguistics (Oxford Applied Linguistics) Written By Zoltán Dörnyei Expressed As E-Text
great book that discuss three methodological approaches, I think this book will appropriate for Applied Linguistics, Modern Languages or any Art and Humanities disciplinary.
A wellwritten summary of the basic researchrelated topics I apparently knew when I was writing my BA, but had managed to get lost in while fidgeting around the MA.
Also, Id like to publically express my agreement to the point that language in academic style should follow the principle of readerfriendliness oh, the nice paragraphs of fancy academia is fancy that yield practically no useful information, as a bonus making you feel ridiculously illiterate.
So, there.
To all my linguisticallytalented Goodreads cake buddies, A useful overview of social science research methods, but lacks particular relevance to applied linguistics,.Didnt expect my first book I finish into be a textbook, but thats grad school, baby This is a great, easyto read, reference books for those who are new to research This is a very practical and accessible book that offers a comprehensive overview of research methodology in applied linguistics by describing the various stages of qualitative and quantitative investigations, from collecting the data to reporting the results.
It also discusses 'mixed methods research', that is, the various combinations of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, This book provides an uptodate and very useful overview of research methods in appled linguistics, Highly recommended for anyone conducting research in the field, Not the best book to introduce you to research in applied linguistics,
However, this book is really helpful for beginners,
I'm not a complete beginner anyway, I had my qualitative research in pragmatics when I was an undergraduate student, I wish the writer could give me more info about quantitative research, statistics, and stuff, I started on an earlier edition that I found online and then bought a new copy of this edition, This book is a classic and is heavily cited, An excellent introduction to quantitative and qualitative research methods, Often researchers of one diss the other while both qualitative and quantitative methods can work together, so it was refreshing to read a fair assessment of both.
Dornyei explains the reasoning behind both types of methods without being getting bogged down in the deep philosophical underpinnings of either, This is a
good book to read to learn the why of methods before moving on to more technical books on the how of methods.
Dornyei himself has an amazing publication record, If you read only one book on the topic, it probably ought to be this one, Dörnyei seems to understand qualitative and quantitative methods equally well, I like how he doesn't sway too much in the direction of either but gives them both equal play, Very useful. I recommend it to anyone who is going to study MA in applied linguistics, it is so nice Should have read this more carefully, . . will probably buy it eventually, Zoltán Dörnyei worked foryears as a language teacher trainer and applied linguist at Eötvös University, Budapest, He is now Professor of Psycholinguistics at the School of English, University of Nottingham, UK, He has published nearlyacademic papers and book chapters on various aspects of second language acquisition and language teaching methodology, and he has written overbooks on motivation, group dynamics, research methodology and the psycholinguistics of second language learning.
