Grab Skyskipper (The Ballad Of Bailey Jo) Translated By Lexa Roi Clarke Viewable As Hardcover
chose to give this book three for such a very, very unusual story! It seemed to be a
scifi fantasy about how the people in the future may be like and what they may be doing as a livelyhood.
something's seemed to be not at all different from what we all deal with in this world now and some seemed to be quite, quote different.
I did not like the swearing that was used so very often, I recommend this book for those who are perhaps turned on by such a different type of story and characters.
I received this book free and in exchange I am doing a couple of reviews that I could find on the popular websites to be able
to leave reviews.
You did quite a job in creating this ebook Lexa Roi Clarke! By Angela I found this book on storycartel.
com. I'm trying to read more unknown authors, or atleast unknown to me and I think I found a little nugget of gold here.
It is a steampunk book so I know very little about the genre and all of that.
but still, I liked it quite a bit, This is a steampunk romance novel, Im not a fan of either genre, But I liked the authors other books and the blurb sounded promising, so I decided to give it a go.
Just a little side note before I get to the actual review, this story was originally published under another pen name but was later republished under the authors own name.
Airship pilot Bailey Jo is a smuggler who gets into trouble with a drug lord.
She is on the run but she doesnt know where to go, Then she remembers a childhood promise and heads out deep into the desert, on a wild goose chase to find a legendary flying city that may not even exist.
She meets some interesting people along the way, And she is in for quite a shock when she finds out the truth,
In terms of plot, its adventurous and kept quite simple and straight forward for the most part, with a few solid twists near the end.
Though there are a couple of things I think could have used a few tweaks to streamline the plot and elevate the story to a whole other level.
Its got a steady pace, with enough room for the characters to establish themselves, I have no idea whether this is a good romance story or not though, as Im not a fan of the genre.
The protagonist is well fleshed out, Shes flawed but likeable and easy to root for, Her love interest is a street magician she picked up along the way, Hes very different from the protagonist, both in personality and upbringing, They basically complete each other, And the mechanical skunk is the adorable little mascot who cant speak, I wish the story could have made use of him a little bit more, if even for just a bit of comic relief.
Even some side characters manage to have their moments, making it quite clear Vivienne Mathews has a good grasp of what it takes to create likeable and memorable characters.
One thing of note is the dialogue, which uses the American kind of accent frequently used in the Western genre.
Im not really a fan of that to be honest, But it didnt bother me too much,
Like I said, this is just not my genre, But its quite enjoyable and a fun adventurous romp, so Im glad I gave this a chance.
This was quite the action adventure story, with twists and surprises along the way, I would have been happier without all of the frequent cussing, and some gore, though the story didn't dwell on it.
It would have been better without the bad language, I think, It does have a couple of sexual scenes, but they are pretty vague,
Nevertheless, the story was well written, and kept my attention throughout the book, And it had the kind of ending that makes you want to clap at the end,
I was given a copy of this in exchange for my honest review, This is a very worthwhile read, It's wellwritten and features a veritable rogue's gallery of characters, Most of them have embraced mechanization of their bodies, so they'll definitely keep your interest, I also quite enjoyed the action sequences, Lexa Roi Clarke really has a flair for cinematic scenes, Even though it's just a novel, I felt like I was watching a movie, Any time you can say that about a book, you know you've got one worth reading, Normally I have a complaint or two about the novels I read, but not this one, It's just that good.
In short: I can easily recommend Skyskipper The Ballad of Bailey Jo, I was given this book in exchange for an honest review,
This was a welldeveloped story with relatable characters, The main character was believable and the writing kept you intrigued, This is a book that I would recommend to anyone, even if this is not your usual genre.

After read thought:
I am in need of an Ollie.
Oh, forget about me, the world is in need of more Ollies, Ollies that smile kindly and want to make other people do the same Ollies that choose to see the best of the world and people without a shadow of doubt hyperventilating, downright adorable Ollies that Wait.
Maybe I am getting a bit ahead of myself and I left you wondering who the hell I am talking about.
We were talking about Bailey Jo, right
So lets try to review this book the proper way.
Skyskipper is a sadly too short for me! Want more! steampunk novel set in a world similar to ours.
The author was showing us the details of this world, full of airships, automatins and altered people, as we went through the story and this is my prefered way of doing things opposite to a huge chunky chapters of explanations, maps and so on.
I loved all the characters good and bad, main and supportive characters, they all just fit in the right places in the story.
Bailey Jo was a wild and awesome combination of a tomboy pilot and mechanic and a girly skipper, trying to use her charms to get a deal.
I liked her even when I wanted to hit her hard with something for treating Ollie like this.
Ive already proclaimed my love for Ollie and for saneness sake maybe its a good idea not to start again.
For those who havent picked the track Ollie is the street magician Bailey meets and is made of joy and joy and joyness with added good amount of unconditional love, huggableness and this is what I meant dont get me started.
And they were so cute together! I also need to mention Chud now I see the “silent treatment” in a whole new way, and also Flossie.
And the Professor. Eek, the Professor! Ok, the true identity of the Professor caught me off guard, I had something entirely different in mind, but this turned good as well,
And do you know what else this book has A mechanical skunk, A very important for the story skunk, You cant just pass away a book with a skunk in it, Not that you needed other reason, given the good plot, great characters, steampunky atmosphere with golems, halffuman henchmen and towns in the sky, but a skunk Thats like a cherry on the top of all the awesomeness.
P. S. If you got the Charlie the Unicorn moment, youre awsome too, .
