you ever in the mood for a light, fun romance but you want suspense and action too As readers we know we really can have it all! This romantic suspense caught my interest from the beginning and kept it during the whole book! I love the intro although I would have to say I would have added more about how strong Hannah is, she certainly is no weak wallflower.
Bravo to Louise RoseInnes for her book Personal Assistance Entangled Ignite! I enjoyed meeting Hannah a strong, independent woman working in another country to make her goals happen.
Oh, she also happens to be secretary / administrative assistant for a Prince Hakeen in Syman, What she thought of as her dream job come true, turned out to be a scary nightmare and she winds up on the run from her boss!
The culture and terrain in the setting were unfamiliar to me part of the attraction I think, yet I felt like the author was there while writing the story.
Plenty of details and action too! Hannah finds an important document and uncovers horrible facts about the man she works for, Leaving the building, she rushes off the the embassy thinking to get help as she is a British citizen, Instead everyone has left. . except one lone soldier, Tom, The building tension of getting Hannah out of the country and her military secrets kept me reading and the chemistry between Hannah and her soldier, Tom also kept my attention.
I like the fact that Hannah and Tom both have baggage from their respective pasts, it makes them easier to relate to, Don't we all have some baggage we hope no one writes about
A lighter suspense read, great to unwind and disappear into the story for awhile.
I definitely enjoyed the book,
Thank you to NetGalley, Louise Rose Innes, and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Personal Assistance, part of the Entangle Ignite series.
As always, my opinions are my own!! I was given an ARC of Personal Assistance from Entangled for an honest review
Honestly, this one didn't grab me quite like some of the other adventure romances I've read of late.
It definitely had some interesting elements, I really liked how the main female protagonist was a pretty key player, and important to the story beyond being the object of fantasy.
It was fast paced and adventurous, I really wasn't sold on the romance though, Sure it was fun, and if you are an avid romance reader you will be sure to like it, Love it even. I just didn't feel any depth of character or any development in there, I certainly thought the characters were interesting, Just not deep.
Things you will like about this: strong female protagonist, sexy military lingo, adventurenonstop, suspense, plottwists, Personal Assistance was action packed and full of suspense, with a good romance in between,
I enjoyed the fact that Hannah was portrayed as a STRONG female character and was not a simpering woman in desperate need of a full on rescue.
Yes, she needed help along the way, but she wasn't passive in getting her self to safety either, That was a refreshing change,
I Liked the aspect that Tom was SAS and not a Seal or Marine or other US military, that added a more unique spin on the story than other typical Military romances.
Some parts of the story seemed a little rushed, but all in all I enjoyed it,

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review, This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review,
Wanting to get away from her overbearing father in England, Hannah decides to take a job as the personal assistance to Prince Hakeem of the Arab island nation of Syman.
At first this seems a little bit out of left field but it turns out Hannah's grandfather was Symanian, she speaks fluent Arabic, and Prince Hakeem follows some westernized ideas.
Everything is going swimmingly until Syman starts to feel the effects of the Arab Spring, Hannah suddenly finds herself learning vital and damning information about Prince Hakeem and in a country about to erupt in civil war, Hightailing it to the English embassy looking for safety, Hannah discovers it abandoned except for one lone SAS soldier I tell you what, I just may question the ol' chain of command if they ordered me to stay ALONE at an embassy in a country on the verge of war.
Tom, the unlucky SAS soldier, allows Hannah sanctuary but as the Prince's men attack the embassy, they find themselves on the move and desperately looking for a way off the island.
Neither Hannah nor Tom are completely flushed out characters, We know Hannah has daddy issues and Tom is being beaten down by survivor's guilt due to a mission in Afghanistan where he trusted the wrong woman and all of his team was killed.
We are told these things and sporadically reminded but the depth of emotion was missing, Hannah veers ever so slightly into TSTL as she disregards or questions Tom, the highly trained soldier keeping her alive, Tom is the average stoic, solid, and hidden hurts soldier, They won't wow you but they're sketches of good characters, This story also uses the trope of instalove like rocket propelled grenades are hitting the embassy and all Tom or Hannah can think about are each other's lush lips instalove.
Yes, they only have each other to rely on as they traverse the city so some emotional connection is going to form but as the reader, I couldn't help thinking," time and place!".
This is a very quick read with a steady pace, even if you never really feel immersed into the story, The suspense side, rebel army clashing with the Prince's men with Hannah and Tom stuck in the middle trying to make it to safety, is solid.
There are a couple forced or contrived situations to keep our main characters on the run or in trouble but for the sake of the story, I was willing to let them slide.
The elements of Arab Spring and SAS soldier, instead of SEAL, are unique enough to keep this interesting even if there isn't enough depth to keep the reader completely invested.

Actual rating,
Finally! A book that involved the SAS and not navy SEALs, Don't get me wrong I love the books with US military but it was refreshing to read something about the British special forces because that's where I'm from.
I enjoyed Personal Assistance, It was very current with today's military climate and had a believable narrative in terms of the unrest, I also liked the location as it wasn't the usual home territory type of book, I liked that it was chaotic as it captured the image of the country
well,
As well as this, I liked the action, There was plenty of fastpaced, well described action and the author wasn't afraid to go into detail, It wasn't gruesome but it was realistic and I'm glad she didn't just pass over it like I've read in other military books,
There were only two things that I had a small issue with, The first was I didn't find Tom's character all that believable at certain times, A few things he did made me question his ability as an SAS soldier, They're meant to be the best of the best and a few slip ups didn't seem realistic, As well as this he seemed to just know things about places, A few times I found myself asking how he found things out,
The second thing I would have liked more of was the romance, It came about all of a sudden and felt a little rushed, It fitted with the pace of the book but I needed a bit more emotion to make me believe in it and route for the characters.
Overall though, Personal Assistance was an interesting read, It held my attention well and whilst it is short, there is a lot packed into it,
Personal Assistance appealed to me because of its volatile Middle East setting: an Arab nation on the brink of civil war and the book descriptions promise of action, danger and romance.
The author does not disappoint in regards to the books vivid descriptions of this place, its customs, and the barrage of dangers Hannah and Tom face in their endeavors to escape Prince Hakeems clutches.
Because Hannah has inadvertently discovered secret intelligence that may prove vital in swaying the outcome of this war, she and Tom must work together to relay this Intel and get back to the safety of Britain.
Time is of the essence and, overall, the author keeps the story moving at an effective pace so my interest never waned,
The relationship between Tom and Hannah is tenuous at best when they meet, Both are desperate and united by their mutual need for each others help, Tom is a member of SAS, Britains elite Special Forces, and he has the training and expertise to keep Hannah safe and get her out of the country.
Moreover, Tom has a vested interest in helping Hannah because shes his ticket back into his commanders good graces and his means of proving his competence in the field.
After Toms last mission went awry, he was pulled from active duty, but if he can deliver the information Hannah has back to his CO, his actions may go a long way in restoring his reputation.
In the beginning, Tom and Hannah are wary of each others motives, and the elements of trust and fear of betrayal are primary themes that consistently arise as the story progresses.
However, there are some aspects of the book that proved problematic for me, First of all the intensity of this couples romance is too much, too soon, and their HEA is too fast for me to truly believe.
Are they infatuated with each other Definitely, But true love No.
Second, the resolution of the climax seems rushed, Throughout the book, the author is descriptive and detailed until the end, when her narration shifts into a “telling” rather than “showing” mode,
Furthermore, although I expected the villains in the book to be flat twodimensional characters, I had hoped the hero and heroine would be more dynamic and wellrounded than they are actually depicted.
Readers get enough of both Toms and Hannahs backstories to help understand how both ended up in the Middle East, but, for me, their circumstances seemed somewhat contrived.
I just didnt feel a strong connection to either of them, as if they were real people I might meet, I do, however, appreciate the dominant traits that define Hannah as spirited and determined while the quiet, reserved Tom is a man of courage and honor.
Source: I received an ARC ebook from the publisher in exchange for an honest review,
Personal Assistance is a decently written and well edited romance/adventure novel, The plot is original and fast paced,
The Hero and heroine are trapped in a third second world country that is about to erupt into a civil war, The h used to work for the country's ruler, and escaped with classified information when she realized that he was a brutal dictator, The H, a SAS soldier left to guard the British embassy, is tasked with getting her to safety,
I had several issues with this novel, but I will address the main one, The personal interactions between the characters were incredibly stilted and forced, Whether it was conversations, sex or personal thoughts it sounded too formal and faked, This ruined the book for me,
I'm afraid I can't recommend Personal Assistance, This novel is action from the first page to the last, An innocent young woman is racing for her life her only hope a SAS officer left to guard the evacuated British Embassy,
Hannah Evan's is working a dream job in the beautiful coastal resort of Syman, a westernized Arab island paradise, She is Prince Hakeem's personal assistant, and enjoys a lot of freedom in the Royal compound she didn't expect, If she leaves the compound all things change and she must have an escort and wear appropriate clothing, In her duties as his assistant she comes across a document that terrifies her, It's a plan to evacuate the royal family and proposed military action to suppress the rebel soldiers, killing innocent civilians in their wake, She never delivers this document and decides the safest thing is to head to the British Embassy, She makes a hair raising trip to the Embassy and is terrified when she sees it has been evacuated,
Tom Wilde is a decorated SAS officer, who has been relegated to guard duty after he is wounded in a failed mission.
He is bound and determined not to make any mistakes on this assignment, The appearance of a beautiful, terrified woman in desperate need of protection is something he can't ignore, When she tells him of her knowledge of the military plans, he knows he has to get her to safety, He reports to his Commander, who agrees with his plan, informing him if the Syman army take her, Tom must kill her to keep the information from them.
Then all communications are down, and they are on their own,
The pace is fast and filled with danger, I enjoyed the story and the characters and the amazing description of a small island in a civil war, My only complaint is the instant attraction between Hannah and Tom, In my opinion it seemed unlikely a woman frightened for her life in constant threat of death would immediately fall in love, Tom was the sole survivor of a mission gone very wrong because he was attracted to a woman who lied to him, Just seemed a bit rushed, Otherwise I enjoyed this military suspense novel very much,
I received this novel from the publisher for an honest review,.Stars
