a nonstop action novel, Edge of your seat experience,st century James Bond and it even has an MIconnection, This could be labeled a Christian Thriller but that would be too narrow, Really great read, do not miss this! When I saw the cover of “When Camels Fly” it reminded me a bit of “The Alchemist” and therefore had slightly different expectations than I should have.
But once I opened the book, I think I only put it down once before finishing it, Horton has considerable skill evoking rich cultures and making you feel like you have a good sense of the city even if youve never visited.

I love, love, love the character of Grace, Shes down to Earth and tempers her calm with mild outbursts and herding of her family even when not necessary, So many of the mannerisms were things I have absolutely seen my mother do, I also really appreciated that Grace and her daughter knew what they were talking about, The hydrology was scientifically sound and had relevant observations about the state of affairs in the Middle East, This added a level of realism that made it easy to believe the story was happening as you read!

Warning: Contains some violence

Who should read it History fans looking for a twist or mystery fans looking for something in an area a little different!

ReadingToDistraction. com or ReadDistract I received the book from the touring host for an honest review,

With so many features at display in this book, the one that stood out the most was Grace Maddison's protectiveness surrounding her children.
She was willing to surpass everything she held dear to keep them safe, Right from the start of this book we see how she shot a man to safe Maggie from her abductors, In the beginning she struggled with her faith, rationalizing her act of bravery as she had taken the life of this man, Her faith a constant compass in this crisis they faced, The way the author added the biblical scripture and history within the plot had given the book substance and made it realistic,

Both Jeff and Maggie were skilled and highly trained in their respective fields, could use weapons masterfully, but yet this mother guarded over them without any regard for her own safety or comfort.

This book is filled with action, suspense, adventure, and hard facts as they trembled through the Westbank's desert in order to safe the water resources from some nasty diplomats high up in the Kennet and Jordan.
Working together as they plan the downfall of the region for their own gain,
It was a race against time as the Maddison family had to draw on all their skills, resources and knowledge to safe the water for the people of the Middle East.
Water is a huge commodity within this region and you learn how greedy and powercrazed people try to use this commodity to enrich themselves.
Not realizing the catastrophe it will create on land and its people, depending on its sources,

Throughout the story you are drawn deeper into the world of espionage, family turmoil, blossoming romance, as this small group learn about each other's secrets, what they really do for a living, coming to terms with the choices they had made.

Each character was masterfully crafted, each with their own attributes and personalities, making this a believable story that kept me turning the pages of the book I must admit at a rapid speed.

The SESOM group was not your typical heroic group filled with young beefy men looking like Rambo, They were a bunch of retired elderly men that saved the day opening the door so to speak as the family tried to get to the bottom of it all.
They had the right connections and help all the time as the small group plunged through grottos, was abducted, chased and almost killed.

Although you get lost in the story and the fast paced action I must point out that there were times I was at a loss in the story line.
As if the flow were hampered with and you had to find your bearings once again, Not sure where you are until you read the complete chapter,
Other than that the book When camels fly has a good plot, with strong and crafty characters that keeps you spellbound as they rushed through the streets of Jerusalem or the desert on a camel's back to find the sleazebags and revers the damages they have caused.

I'm finding it hard to write a review of this book without giving away the plot, Water has always been at the heart of the troubles in the Middle East and this book delves into what can happen when unscrupulous people take over.

The characters you will love from the octogenarians to Mom who is hilarious, She is constantly talking to herself and heaven help anyone who even thinks about hurting her cubs!! Poor Mom Grace is her nameis finding out that everything she thought is not quite as she thought it was with her family.
And she is a klutz! Amidst everything else she is hoping her daughter and son get married! There is a lot of trusting in GD in this book while helping him along a bitwell a lot so anyone who like a bit of religion thrown inyou will enjoy this also.

Will the Mid East ever stop warring over waterWHEN CAMELS FLY!

I received a paperback uncorrected proof copy of this book for review purposes.
When Camels Fly grabbed my interest from the first page and didn't let go until the end, NBL captured the landscape so well that I was automatically transported from Canada to Israel every time I picked up the book,

The characters were so well drawn out, Grace, the mother of two grown children, was like a fierce mother bear, protecting her cubs, The entire family had secrets that came out during the story especially Mark, the father, and Jeff, the son,

Thought the family was busy trying to protect each other and on the run the entire time, they had a great sense of humor.
I loved the family dynamics and felt welcomed into their lives and their bantering back and forth, I also liked the subtle ecological message about water, You could even call it a water thriller,

NbL Horton is a graduate degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, I never felt preached to, Sure there was reference to religion and even a couple of religious artefacts but that is to be expected in Israel, of all places.
Like her character, Grace, NBL has surveyed Israeli, archaeological digs, I think her personal

background is what helped make this story so good,

I can hardly wait for her next book, The Brothers' Keepers! I highly recommend When Camels Fly! The family that spies together stays together! This was an interesting concept about countries stealing water in the middle east and Maggie, in the course of her work, notices something isn't right.
This leads to her being kidnapped, saved by her mother, they are both kidnapped, husband and brother come rushing in along with a wide cast of characters.

The story was good but I felt like I needed a character guide to keep track of everyone, I think it wasn't until about/of the way through I felt like I had a handle on all of the characters and who was trying to help and who was trying to steal the water.
There were a lot of details, but perhaps too many

The book spans about a week and it is very action packed, no down time for these characters.
