The relationship dynamics between the two main characters must be one of the most unique relationships I've ever encountered in literature, something I can't put a name to.
Is it friendship, or is it some sort of twisted adolescent romantic feelings It is probably neither, but the connection between two kids having a difficult time connecting with anybody else in the world.
Wataya Riisa's writing is deceptively simple, so much that on the first read it took me justhours to finish I tossed it aside and didn't think too much about the content.
However, as I finished reading, I found myself pondering back on it more and more, and finally read it again and again, For those who have always felt a sense of being an outsider, the characters may very well resonate with your experience, Afterall, one can feel the loneliest when they are, well, not alone, Âm hưởng mờ đục tồn tại bụi mịn như một chiếc khăn lau phấn khô khốc chèn giữa các câu chữ trong cuốn tiểu thuyết này.
Ngay từ những dòng đầu tiên, Risa đã cho người đọc thấy sự xứng đáng của cuốn tiểu thuyết với danh giải Akutagawa năm, khi mà năm đó một cuốn sách khác t rất hưởng thụ thoái mái là Snakes and Earrings của Kanehara Hitomi cũng nằm trong danh sách đoạt giải.


Cuốn tiểu thuyết đi từ những suy nghĩ phản xã hội một cách ngây ngô của cô bé học sinh trung học Hatsu cho tới "sự chú ý của cô đã va phải vào ánh mắt" tập trung của cậu bạn cùng lớp Ninagawa với hình cô người mẫu Orichan trong cuốn tạp chí.
Sau một hồi khoe rằng mình đã gặp cô người mẫu đó rồi thì Hatsu được Ninagawa mời về nhà gấp vì sự otaku cuồng nhiệt của cậu ta chỉ để tới nơi đó chụp lại những chỗ cô Orichan từng ngồi.


Ninagawa là một otaku cuồng nhiệt cô người mẫu Orichan tới độ, cậu "nhặt nhạnh" mảnh đời của cô ấy đem cất giữ vào trong một chiếc hộp.
Và mặc dù Hatsu đã thấy sự biến thái của cậu khi cắt hình mặt Orichan vào hình khoả thân của một cô bé chưa dậy thì xong, thì Ninagawa vẫn thấy chuyện đó là bình thường.
Việc xuất hiện một cậu chàng otaku với tình cảm nồng nhiệt chân thật bên cạnh cuộc sống đầy giả tạo của cô bé Hatsu này thì rõ ràng cô bé thấy hứng thú và tò mò.


Nhân vật chính của các tác phẩm đạt giải Akutagawa đều hiểu chuyện một cách khác đời, nhưng họ mới chính là đời, mới là sự thật, còn thế giới thực kia chỉ là ảo thôi:"

Hẳn có quá nhiều thứ đối lập trào phúng trong đây tình cảm của cậu bé Ninagawa với cô người mẫu Orichan và sự giả tạo của con người hay tình bạn mà Hatsu nhận thấy, người thầy chủ nhiệm CLB điền kinh mà Hatsu luôn tự kinh bị rằng bị học sinh điều khiển dễ dãi và tình cảm chân

thành thực sự tới từ những đàn chị trong CLB với thầy, ngay cả tình cảm nồng cháy bệnh hoạn của Ninagawa với Ori nhưng khi gặp gỡ trực tiếp ở concert thì cậu lại toát ra sự vô cảm khó hiểu.


Hiện hữu một phức cảm kỳ lạ, mặc dù Ninagawa và Hatsu đều tách rời lớp học, cộng đồng hay xã hội, và mặc dù hai đứa khác nhau một cách dở hơi, thì rõ ràng càng tới cuối chúng ta càng thấy sự biến chuyển hoà trộn một cách trớ trêu.
Dù Hatsu là kiểu cố tình rời xa thế giới học đường, muốn chọn lọc mối quan hệ, muốn thực sự sống thật, kinh bỉ cái giả tạo của việc mỉm cười hay chơi nhóm, nhưng bản thân cô bé này lại nặng nề hơn cậu chàng otaku Ninagawa kia.
Điều này gây ra một tâm lý kỳ quặc muốn quan sát biểu hiện của cậu chàng này một cách nghiên cứu, và đồng thời cũng sinh lòng ham muốn đá và chiếc lưng cậu ta thêm lần nữa, này là muốn bắt nạt ngược lại cho dù bản thân mình là kẻ cũng được coi là hứng chịu sự bắt nạt của cộng đồng chăng.


Khi mọi thứ đi tới cuối thì thứ chúng ta chưa nắm bắt được ấy là lý do thực sự của Ninagawa khi trở nên lạnh nhạt với cuộc gặp gỡ Ori, và ngay cả sự thôi thúc biến thái của chính Hatsu khi muốn đá mạnh vào cậu bạn, tới mức đoạn cuối cô bé đá là đau điếng chân:"

Có một phân cảnh trong cuốn sách mà t khá thích thú, ấy là khi lần đầu tới nhà Ninagawa, trong lúc cậu còn ngồi đeo tai nghe một bên để "trải nghiệm cảm giác tiếng Ori chan thì thầm bên tai", và sau khi cô bé Hatsu là lục lọi chán cái hộp chứa "kho báu" của cậu, thì Hatsu đã bắt gặp hình ảnh bóng lưng Ninagawa khi cậu quay lưng về phía ô cửa, nơi có cái cây được tận dụng làm giá treo quần áo.
Một hình ảnh trốn chạy thực tại, một màu sắc không thể thiếu trong các tác phẩm đạt giải Akutagawa, khi ấy, chính cái không khí ấy đã vô tình len lỏi vào t từ lúc nào không thể lường trước.
Cảm tưởng như mình cũng là một người bạn nào đó của hai cô cậu học trò kỳ quặc này và nhập hội cùng họ luôn.


"Nỗi buồn ngắn lên Cao vút đến chói tai, như tiếng chuông lãnh lót, nỗi buồn bóp nghẹt lồng ngục tối, để mọi người xung quanh không nhận thấy nó, tôi phải dùng mấy đầu ngón tay xé nát trang giấy in thành những dải dài.
Tiếng xé giấy làm tan biến âm thanh của sự cô độc, nhưng nó cũng khiến tôi trông vô cùng uể oải.
Diệp lục a Rong đuôi chó ư Dáng vẻ chúng mới háo hức làm sao, Thấy có mỗi vi sinh vật mà chúng nó hào hứng ra mặt, . " Intriguing story ruined by poor writing/translation

Thank goodness this book is short because it was a struggle to read,

I was intrigued by the story of an adolescent girl funnelling her frustration and loneliness into a sadistic desire to bully someone else, I'm sure most people who have been bullied recognise that desire to feel powerful by manipulating others, Just a shame the translation was so poor,

I first thought the voice of a young girl was perfect, but this characterization was quickly lost after a few pages, Odd choices of words and passive sentences made this text feel like it was directly translated such as "pleading division" instead of "cheer club" or "thumb toe" instead of "big toe".
There were a number of British words and phrases at the start but more American phrases in the latter half of the story, making the English inconsistent.
Character's dialogue often didn't match their age/gender, and spoken lines weren't broken up onto separate lines, which combined with long paragraphs, made the story difficult to read.


Overall the English writing was a mess that took away my enjoyment of the story,

In a way I felt like Hatsu, I just want to kick this story in the back, A winner of Japan's prestigious Aktugawa Prize for rising literary talent, I Want to Kick You in the Back follows Hatsu, who is in her first year of high school and having a hard time fitting in with her classmates.
She meets Ninagawa, an outcast who is obsessed with a model/pop idol but who has no interest in the actual girls around him, Gradually, Hatsu develops an impulse towards Ninagawa, not of love or infatuation, but one that can best be described as a desire to kick him in the back.
This novella does a great job of exploring the ambivalent feelings of a teenager in search of a meaningful relationship, If you'd like to look into the mind of a Japanese teenager, this would be a great place to start, Wataya wrote this novel, her second, as a university student, and you can tell, The intense introspection and the Every Little Thing Means Something mentality are hallmarks of being a young adult, and her use of metaphors often quite charming and/or striking is something that a lot of older writers give up on.
In the United States, this could probably pass as a YA novel, Think of it as a Japanese Eleanor amp Park maybe a bit darker and quirkier, but altogether authentic, 蹴りたい背中/"Appel du pied" de Wataya Risa, Traduction de Patrick Honnoré. This is a very pleasant, quick read, It is well paced, the characters have their likable, funny as well as their awkward sides, It takes you back to late elementary school/early school: the insecurity, lack of confidence, the envy when you see your friends finding their identity and way ahead, worries about others' opinions while also trying to berate them so you don't care about their opinions.

The book deals with all this but the tone and storytelling is quite charming and has a light air, It won't bring you down and make you brood over teenage psychology as if it would be the biggest problem of our world, It handles things as they should be, and establishes enough distance and awareness to render looking back through the protagonist's eyes a nice experience, .stelle

Short, light, perfect as an afternoon read, Roman japonais sur la vie scolaire, This was good, but I'll probably have forgotten a lot of it in a month, I like that she was able to portray an unusual but convincing sort of affection between people who are drawn to but don't necessarily like one another.
It's nice to be reminded that teenagers can be written to have nuanced relationships amongst all the Bella Swan crap that's out there,

Chris says there are translation issues, and I choose to believe him because this thing doesn't read very well at all, There are also a ton of typos, I've never dealt with One Peace Books before, but someone over there needs to figure out their life, .
