Chink in the Armor is a great imagining on what may have transpired in Jobs life to turn him into the man God could test and he would still remain faithful.
Im not a religious person, but I love stories like this that bring teaching, history, or religion whichever you prefer into a different light.
This story was easy to connect to with a great added twist of a dragon! Check this story out to see how God might have taught a biblical pun intended! lesson to a man who could have otherwise become an arrogant ruffian, sure to fail at the first test in the book of Job.
Well written and fun to read!
Many say that Job, an undefeated warrior, is blessed by the gods.
Job himself feels he's beyond the gods, with no need for such superstition, But there's a coming foe unlike any Job has ever fought before in A Chink in the Armor by author D.
Robert Pease.
Ah! So here's an imagining of what the biblical Job could have faced as a young man, years before the events recorded in Scripture.
While Job's characterization and the message in this story are on the heavyhanded side, the biblical account gives the message here its deeper significance.
This tale of war has the gritty drama of epic fantasy while remembering to make its central characters human.
The camaraderie between Job and his friends has an easy feel, laced with some humor, so there's a reason to care about what happens to them.
On a technical note, there's a little confusion with homonyms here and there metal/mettle, faired/fared, but the writing is otherwise polished.
I quite enjoyed this quick read, Blessed by the gods, Job has never lost a battle, He has triumphed over every challenge from man and nature, Arrogant Yes, but he's invincible, Or is he An interesting premise
And a GREAT parable, Pease takes the Book of Job, and fashions an intriguing morality/mortality tale, I will find more of his books to tread, This is a short story of Job, This is a standalone with no cliffhanger, The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here.
Even though it is a short story, this book, and the character of Job, are well written, You could really feel his emotions
and what he was going through and how humbling this experience was for him.
This involves war so there is a lot of violence in this little story, I received a copy of this story from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
D. Robert Pease has been interested in creating worlds since childhood, From building in the sandbox behind his house, to drawing fantastical worlds with paper and pencil, there has hardly been a time he hasnt been off on some adventure in his mind, to the dismay of parents and teachers alike.
Also, since the moment he could read, books have consumed vast swaths of his life, From The Mouse and the Motorcycle, to The Lord of the Rings, worlds just beyond reality have called to him like Homers Sirens.
Its not surprising then he chose to write stories of his own, Each filled with worlds just beyond reach, but close enough we can all catch a glimpse of ourselves in the characters he creates.
