Then there is some skirmish between the miners and the local tribe that ends in a few killings, Matters are handled poorly and tensions rise, Calvert uses it to drum up support to wage a war against the savages, Rebeccas father is reluctant because all this fighting is bad for the economy, Things quiet down for a few days until theres an attack on a farmer and his family and then all hell breaks loose,

Mostly confined to the house and bored out of her wits, Rebecca decides to make a pleasant stroll through the tulips at the neighboring estate.
At that moment her own house gets attacked and Rebecca has no other option but to flee, With the attackers on her heels she runs and runs until her feet are cut to ribbons, Then when she fears all is lost she gets saved from her pursuers by a native woman who treats her damaged feet,

The saviors name is Pocahontas and the two woman embark on a trek through the woods that lasts several days and takes Rebecca further and further away from the settlers.
She would love to go home but has little say in the matter, not that they really understand each other anyway, She feels strangely attracted to this mochaskinned a term liberally overused in the story beauty who shares her body heat at night something that gives the redhead a forbidden thrill.

Weeks go by and Rebecca and Pocahontas spend all their time together, much to her parents consternation, Their clandestine love affair cannot go undiscovered for much longer, And sure enough, one day mom walks in on them,
