perfect book to counter balance vet school stress, This was really a fun read, It tells the story of a woman who rescues older small dogs and gives them a home to spend their final time in, Was sweet while still being realistic about the problems she encountered, Parts were sad but overall it was an interesting read, Self congratulatory but at times amusing
Ms Morgan is a step above an animal hoarder, While she does provide hospice care for elderly Ill small dogs, she collects other farm animals in a Willynilly fashion chickens, goats and a pig! She stores deceased animals in the freezer "next to the ice cream" I have it three because she does have a way with words that had me chuckling while shaking my head.
This is a hard review to write, The writing was flawed. In many ways, I think that Morgan is nuts, but there is so much heart in what she does that I am compelled to admire both her and the book.
I love old dogs and would have more if I could afford the vet care, Hopefully, this book will inspire others, I've spent two decades in the pet rescue world and I've volunteered at the local nationally know senior pet sanctuary, I know Hope's world. I also champion the seniors, I rarely foster or adopt an animal under the age of five, and I have multiples at any given time,
Most of what she writes is spoton, and I laughed out loud at some of the pets' stories, When she began to describe the chickens and goats, though, the word "hoarder" crept into the back of my mind,
I do recommend this read to anyone curious about pet sanctuaries and hospices, Esp before contacting one and demanding that they take your or you will have to euthanize, Fantastic
I rarely rate a book, but I absolutely loved this one, I couldn't put it down, Being a dog owner, I have much respect for the author, No excitement
I have a bracelet that says "I care", but I also suffer from twohand syndrome, Which means although I want to, I can only do so much, and only so fast, Kind of like the author, Pets and people, the needs never end, Little old dog Sanctuary
This woman Is a wonder! She has to have something few women have ! For one thing a unusual good husband! Next and more importantly a heart of love for mankind! God bless you Hope Morgan!! Love old dogs.
Couldn't put the book down,
Love the stories of old dogs, I have old dogs so really enjoyed this book, So glad other people love old dog to, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL READ!
I actually downloaded this book thinking it was fiction, but soon realized after I began reading that it was all too true.
And hilarious. And sad. It was beautifully written to add humor to a situation that so many people see as depressing I actually laughed out loud
a few times as I was reading this on ahour tour bus trip.
But the most profound feeling this book left me with was joy, My heart is so happy for every washed up and defective dog, chicken, pig, duck, mouse, or wasp ever fated to cross Hope's path, Thank you so much for caring, Your story is truly inspirational! AMAZING Book! Next New York Times Bestseller!!!
This is truly one of the best books I read, Emotional, fun, entertaining, and packed with love and care, And above all, very well narrated, The author Hope Morgan is an incredibly talented writer and storyteller, She made me laugh a lot and cry sometimes,
Each of the dogs has its unique, heart touching story, The daily routine seems easy going, although this must be such a lot of work and commitment, Six loads of dog laundry a day I would be busy only with this part, Hope's moving experience proves that everybody can help to make this world better, So that, at the end of the path, one can look back and be certain that his/her life had a purpose and mattered,
Thank you very much for this great book, full of humor, joy, respect, and plenty of old dog love, Highly recommended, not only for old dog lovers, Kudos to the author for making a sanctuary for old dogs, but spare me the details, I was grossed out more than necessary, Incredibly wonderful book! Be prepared to laugh and cry, Nice, entertaining read but could really use some editing to tighten it up,
At Little Old Dog Sanctuary, napping is a competitive sport, potty training is optional, and staying alive is strongly encouraged, But we are not your typical rescue, We don't acquire dogs with the intention of finding them a "forever home, " Their forever home is wherever they go after they die and we don't have any control over that, Our mission is to give our residents lots of food, love, comfy pillows and plenty of friends until that "forever" time arrives, In short, we are a hospice for small, elderly and special needs shelter dogs with some exceptions, of course, because sometimes matters of life and death can get a little complicated.
LODS is operated by two people Hope and Erik who met in high school, went their separate ways, and wound up getting marriedyears later, I can assure you that our book was not influenced in any way by the weightiness of Joyce Carol Oates, Dalton Trumbo or Jack Ketchum, Yes, we inevitably have to deal with death, but we primarily focus on life, Quality of life. For us, it's important to be happy, keep a positive attitude, and have lots of fun, So we do. We even have a motto, "It's never too late to live Happily Ever After!" And we mean it, We live it every day, We live to laugh and laugh to live, And we share it with you in our book, Without a doubt, this is the funniest book about a dog hospice you will ever read!,
