Retrieve Infinity (Chronicles Of Nick, #1) Conceived By Sherrilyn Kenyon Available As Document
is the first book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Chronicles of Nick series, This book starts with Nick at age fourteen when he is first introduced into the supernatural world: first by Kyrian saving him from being beaten to death by his "friends" and second after zombies attack at his school.
His powers as the Malachai are slowly unleashed and Nick finally realizes that there is a world out there that he never knew about,
I loved finally starting to learn more about Nick, I mean, we know some things about him from the DarkHunter series, but we never really knew anything about him, Nick is much more complicated than anyone could ever imagine, even at such a young age, I found him highly amusing and entertaining throughout the novel, and he was extremely witty and intelligent, I liked that, even though he was considered less important than the rich people, he had morals, values, and was still kind to others,
I found it interesting that Cherise grated on my nerves quite a bit throughout the novel, I understand that she is a mother and they are often overprotective, but it bothered me quite a bit maybe more so than it bothered Nick.
I mean, she never let the poor boy get a word in edgewise when he was trying to explain something to her! Anyway, I still like Cherise and still feel horrible about what later happens to her.
Kyrian Ohhhh, Kyrian. It was so nice to see him when he came into this novel, I loved the way he helped Nick out and how unconcerned he was by the fact that his housekeeper knows how to wield a knife and is not afraid to use it.
Can't wait to catch more of him in the upcoming CON books,
Along with Kyrian, we also get a few glimpses of Acheron, It's always a treat to see Ash, and it was interesting to read his thoughts on how important Nick was going to come to be in his life.
His interaction with Nick in the car on the ride to Nick's house was entertaining as hell because they were both being highly sarcastic, As always, my love, it was great to see you, Ash!
I did not like the fact that Nick met Simi, He's not supposed to meet her for the first time until he's twentyfour in Seize the Night,
I cannot tell you how much I loved seeing Tabitha in this book, She is my favorite female from the DH series and so I was absolutely ecstatic to see her fighting vampires who are actually DAIMONS! and zombies in this book.
Eric was awesome, Enough said.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing a bit of Adarian in this book, We know even less about him than we do Nick, It was cool to see a little bit of him in prison and get a feel for him, I mean, aside from knowing he is a psychotic murderer, we don't know that much about the man so I look forward to seeing more of him in future Chronicles of Nick books.
Ugh. Stone. I wanted to reach into the book and punch him, Obviously I recognized him from Bad Moon Rising so I knew who he was but this book just made him more of a bastard in my opinion.
Therefore, I found great joy when he was whimpering like a baby when the zombies had him,
Ambrose Grownup Nick I'm not exactly sure how I feel about having the grownup Nick there with younger Nick, It was very, very weird for me,
I am not exactly sure how I feel about Caleb, Is he working for Adarian Is he working for Ambrose Is he really there to protect Nick Is he there for something more sinister How does all this affect him
For the two seconds that Artemis was in the book, I wanted to kill her.
Just ew. Gag me. Blech. Ugh. Grr.
Like with Caleb, I am not sure about Nekoda, Is she there to help Nick Will she kill Nick Is she good Is she evil What side is she really on Also, I absolutely did not like her kissing on my Nicky Yes, he's mine.
Deal with it. .
I loved Bubba and Mark,
Overall, it was a fantastic book and I highly recommend it, FREE WILL, the first two words that struck me, the first two words that hold me to the point of knowing the unknown, the two words that will lead to significant events through good or bad, a decision made by the heart.
. . that will change one's FATE, . . Forever.
At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him, Streetwise, tough, and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends, . . Until the night when his best friends try to kill him, Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Morris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the DarkHunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything for humanity.
Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and much more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.
But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesheating zombiesand he's next on the menu.
As if starting high school isn't hard enough, . . Now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended.
How in the world is he supposed to manage that NOPE, NOPE, NOPE, NEVER AGAIN. This was . . so bad I just . I can't
I've only ever given a bookstar ONCE before now, That alone should tell you how much I disliked this book!!
/stars
just a warning, there may be slight spoilers in this.
This review mainly a rant though so there shouldn't be many spoilers, if any
Hmmmm how exactly do I say this
Oh, I know! This book was a mess
SERIOUSLY.
The writing style was, frankly, terrible, This is probably the worst writing I've ever experienced in a book tbh, It was so childish and just so entirely unbelievable,
The "storyline"
Quotation marks bc what even was this
FIRST we get a protagonist hated by E V E R Y O N E, even his principal which, tbh, I found wayyyyyy too unrealistic for my liking.
THEN we get a whole host of characters that are just not developed enough and very unrealistic,
SOMEHOW a character allllllwayyyyys says something philosophical and deep and basically plothinty at every possible chance and we're expected to take it seriously.
And I typically LOVE philosophical thoughts, but in this context, everything said was just so impossible, Seriously, nobody SAYS the things characters say in this book,
THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, OUT OF THE FRICKIN BLUE, CANNIBALISM LIKE WTF Seriously, that was expected to fit into the storyline with very few qualms from anyone.
And there was basically no forewarning whatsoever Oo
THOUGHTS
I was not a fan of this
I will admit, sometimes the snark was entertaining, and the idea behind the book had the potential to be interesting, but this novel was just gone about all wrong.
There was TOO MUCH snark, believe it or not, It actually got tiresome!
THE PORTRAYAL OF FEMALE CHARACTERS WAS A SOLID NOPE FOR ME, SERIOUSLY, every character was either "smokin' hot" ew I hate that phrase or really quirky, flatout strange, and somewhat unintelligent, Also, Nick CONTINUOUSLY acted as though every girl needed his protection and it pissed me the fuck off, Ooooooo boy I disliked this, I also felt no inclination towards Nick's mother, who never listened to him and yelled at him for the majority of the time she saw him, never really recognizing wtf was going on in his life.
Ughhhhh
It's been a long time since a book pissed me off so much, I just can't deal with it, I acknowledge that this book was a positive experience for other people, and maybe they saw things that I didn't, Regardless, I stand firm with mystar rating and with everything I've said thus far,
I just, I can't, I really can't. Too many aspects of this book unrealistic characters, weak writing, lowkey sexist portrayal of female characters, unrealistic dialogue, etc, etc felt lacking to me, and all I can say is I'm majorly disappointed.
I was looking forward to an actionpacked narrative to lose myself in, but this was not it, Actual Rating:./
Sherrilyn Kenyon definitely has a formula she works with, This book felt very familiar despite being YA, But I'm not necessarily ccomplaining, I still enjoyed it. “Couldnt finish the book” I couldnt stop rolling my eyes, How contrived a narrative can you force onto people to try to make them sympathise and like a character I found Nick so badly written and all the people who he talks too so stereotyped into a box I couldnt even get into the real plot.
Nick
Hes poor,
Smart but nerdy,
Doesnt have any friends,
Hes really really poor,
Hes from a broken dysfunctional home, so he doesnt have a dad or any connection to his grandparents,
Hes bullied, because hes dirt poor,
His mom and his surrogate family all work at a strip/Pole dancing club.
He has terrible clothes,
Hes shot helping old people,
Hes Super poor,
His teachers hate him because hes riff raff from a poor dirt poor home with a bad mother!
Oh and hes poor!
The author really needs to learn the basic story telling method of Showing us rather than telling us, getting toldtimes that Nick is poor and how everyone hates him for it is soooo childish and lame its reality breaking, his teachers would sympathise with him They love honor students, they want to teach not lambast the poor! No one is this clownishly evil, rich people might look down on the poor, but they wouldnt be so stereotypical about it.
I was waiting for the rich kids to pay there butlers to beat him up, or to stone him with gold bars,
I got up to Bubba Double degree holding Psychopath and the goth vampire killer super hot, like every other girl hes ran into so far before I had to quit, I realise I might be slightly too old for this book, but I couldnt imagine a young adult reading this and sympathising with Nick.
I really am supprised that this got past an editor, It shows soo little finesse it was little better then some fan fiction, The only way to make this worse was if Nick was forced to live under some stairs :P Reading this book is like looking into a shoebox filled with colorless shrinky dinks.

There are many characters, and all of them are onedimensional, Despite being set in New Orleans, Kenyon grossly misuses her setting, never once describing it, In her book, the city is
dull, featureless, and empty,
In "Infinity," Nick Gautier is your stereotypical chosen one, He has powers, maybe And powerful beings watch over him, or something And zombie type creatures attack And they defeat them,
Nothing in this book is original, Ancient powers threaten the world, One boy is the chosen one to defeat them all, The humor relies on tired old Chuck Norris jokes,
The funniest thing about this book is that Sherrilyn Kenyon is suing Cassandra Clare for plagiarism, Does Kenyon understand that everything in her book is an archetype, trope, or stereotype Even accusing Cassandra Clare of plagiarism is so,
I've read a lot of braindead youngadult books, but this might be one of the absolute dumbest, The writing is terrible, there isn't enough plot to sustain its length, and what little plot there is feels slapdash and inconsistent, There is no main villain, There is no clear plot arc,
Last year, I thought the Violets of Smarch was the dumbest book I'd ever read, This one undercuts that one by miles, so I'm glad I gave Smarch two, The floor gets even lower,
Infinity can barely be considered a book, It is much less than the sum of its parts, The only thing holding it together is a physical cover, I expect its spine to disintegrate, its pages to blow away, and the words on them to peel off like loose threads, dissolving into little puffs of ink in the air.
