a great middle school read, I remembered this book atrandom today and had to look it up, I read this in middle school and always remember this one line:
"There was a scratch and a pop, and the pin went through.
"
This described Stacy piercing her classmate's ear with a safety pin,
That's all I remember, really, Oh, and some stuff about how it was wrong to pierce the girls' ears by numbing them with ice cubes and poking safety pins through their lobes in the girls' bathroom at school.
Was it a cautionary tale Yep, I think it was, All I know is it made me very sadistically curious about poking sharp things through body parts, And I did begin to try to pierce a new hole in one of my own ears but wussied out at the last second.
Thanks, middlegrade literature in thes!
The/sins referred to the total number of holes Stacy managed to pierce in the girls' ears before they were interrupted by the teacher.
It didn't go all the way through that last lobe, There may have been an infection, and an angry parent, which may have caused some plot drama, . .
Honestly, I can't remember details,
All I know is that a safety pin going through one's ear should make a scratch, and then, a pop sound.
I loved this book so much growing up! Concerned with becoming beautiful, elevenyearold Stacy devises a moneymaking scheme in order to purchase a Busttersizer, and learns in the process that beauty
is indeed only skindeep.
