Catch Hold Of Unknown World (EMP Survivor #3) Authored By Chris Pike Compiled As Text
Action Packed PostApocalyptic Tale
It's been a fun process to follow Pike's writing from books one until book three.
It started strong but has really picked up in Unknown World, Pike knows how to weave a few stories into one without taking away from the overall story arc,
Unknown World's main storyline is Chandler and Amanda traveling across Texas to get to her aunt's ranch, Of course along the way they run into lots of trouble from more than one type of person, I won't ruin who or what happens, but I will tell you that it involved two different 'baddies' that really cranked the action up to.
Both Chandler and Amanda are pretty well explained in the first two books, but we are treated to a little more back story on Amanda which ends up having a pretty big part of the story.
I like reading a book and thinking that I know the characters and then an author can throw in a story you didn't know or didn't expect and it changes everything.
My favorite part of Unknown World came when we are introduced to Chandlers brother and his ability to always pick the wrong moment.
I found myself laughing at the parts with his brother, especially in the final "bonus" story,
The narration for Unknown World was done by the PostApocalyptic master Kevin Pierce, who, surprise surprise, does a great job, He's narrated the first two books and I'm glad that he was brought back to narrate the third,
Overall, this book was really enjoyable, I could tell that book two was leading up to something, but this wasn't at all what I expected, It had a lot more action and a lot more human connection than the firstbooks, Which really 'matured' the series a bit don't worry it's not heavy like some postapocalyptic books can be,
I honestly could have left the series here, I wasn't sure if this was going to be a three book series or more when I started it, but I would be happy with the way it ended.
With that being said, I know that Pike is writing the fourth right now that's due out sometime in, I wsnt sure Id be able to get into it as it was written from the perspective of characters that were secondary in the first two books.
However it wasn't bad. The main criticism I have is the author's habit of writing from the dogs' perspective in all three, Seems strange, kinda forced to me,
Faith, Family amp Firearms: an apt motto for this series if ever there were one,
Partfocuses mainly on Chandler and Amanda after they leave Holly's ranch and head toward her Great Aunt's in Austin, The decide to stop by Chandler's parents house first, along the way, Forced to make the trip on horseback, the drama moves at anything but a trot, A deviant exboyfriend from Amanda's youth is setting up his own small fiefdom, similar to what Cole's had been only, better armed, But, before they can get there they come across an old traveler's trap, beating into Amanda the lesson that people aren't to be trusted implicitly, regardless how they appear, and especially during an apocalypse.
I love that Pike added a whole dimension to this part with all the sniper "stuff, " The backstory, the rifles, the craft, and the family trade all made it that much more interesting for me, The addition of a rather infamous location, also relating to precision shooting albeit a negative one was an interesting touch, This is the third installment in the EMP Survivor series, I really enjoyed books one and two, so I was eager to dive into book three and have the story unfold further,
The focus of the story is on Amanda and Chris as they attempt to get to Amanda's aunt's house near Austin, Escorting Amanda was a promise Chris had made to Amanda's grandfather before he was killed in book two,
One nugget from the book is the expression "faith, family, and firearms, ". I may not be the worshiping type, but I do love that expression,
I gave this book aonstar rating as there were two aspects of the story that didn't sit well with me.
The first was the amount of time spent on describing things from the dog's perspective, This struck me as a bit odd and didn't really add to the story, To describe the second issue would be to include spoilers, which I don't want to do, What I can say is that I felt a bit of déjà vu from the first and second books and would have preferred something more distinct in regards to the main villain in the story.
These were issues from my perspective and didn't take too much away from my overall enjoyment of the story, another great series like how this one has veered off with the characters to follow their story, Unknown World
As usual Mr, Pike has written another good story, Characters are well developed and interesting, My only problem is that I will have to keep buying more of his books, Thanks. Mr. Pike
Chris Pike does another good job with this continuing EMP story, We follow Amanda amp Chandler as they head home on horseback, For the most, a believable journey home, I like the characters. The band guys are bad amp the good guys are good,
The action is there, Some romance. The last scene with Chandler was terrifying, Unfortunately, the scene with Mom Chandler at the tower almost brought the book down tostars, Her knife trick was too much, Everything else great. Book, Unknown World by Chris Pike continues where bookleft off, Chris Chandler and Amanda Hardy are new characters from bookand Dillon's farm seems to be faring well after rebuilding during the last several months.
Therefore, it was now time for Chandler to escort Amanda to Austin, TX as promised to be reunited with her family a weeklong journey by horseback.
En route, the duo continues to battle people who want to take their stuff and lose one of their horses in a fight.
A new twist was their spending time at a lodge wheresilver dollars bought them each a hot meal and bath, The food was fantastic and filling, and Amanda was just beginning her bath when strange things started happening,
They eventually reach Chandler's parents' farm and settle in when Amanda is kidnapped by a former lover, The family, with the help of locals, formulate a plan to rescue her, They are outnumbered and have to assault the tower in Austin made famous by a sniper in the's, Will they succeed Who will move on to book
I did find some typos and other errors in the story, the editing on this installment wasn't quite up to par as the previous two books.
Onward to! Good book
Read all of the books in order to really enjoy, Characters are realistic and get better and better, Storyline continues to grow and develop, Excited about the continuation of the dog POV, something that to the best of my knowledge is unique to this book series, Very interesting and humanizing story, Very interesting read.
I stumbled on this author and am happy with this series, I love post apocalyptic books this author has put together one with lots of interesting drama, I hope you enjoy. This is the best EMP type book series I have read, and I have read several, Bestselling author Chris Pike brings a fresh voice to the postapocalyptic genre with another pulsepounding, harrowing story about survival,
He was a man of quiet faith and determined courage who lived by an unwavering code of honor, He was a firm believer that the good guys would win and the bad guys would lose, although it didnt mean there wouldnt be casualties or injuries in the process of winning.
EMP survivor Chris Chandler wasnt one to back away from overwhelming odds, and as of now, the odds werent stacked in his favor, One way or the other, people were going to get hurt here or killed,
Amanda Hardy and Chris Chandler have been living comfortably at the Double H Ranch where they took sanctuary after the EMP.
Deciding it was time to head to Austin, where they both have relatives, they leave the safety of the ranch to embark on a journey filled with unknown perils.
They have meticulously planned for the trip, carrying extra food, ammo, and water, and they think they are prepared for every possible contingency, except for one.
Amanda hasnt been completely truthful with Chandler about her pasta past that rears its ugly head and will cost lives,
“Chris Pike draws the reader into the story with richly textured prose and vivid descriptions, using the right mixture of unexpected twists and turns, raising the question: If it happened to me, could I survive”
I'm really enjoying this series.
Amanda Hardy and Chris Chandler have finally made a fateful, gutwrenching decision to leave the Double H Ranch where they had taken sanctuary after the EMP.
Their dangerous journey to Austin will put them in the crosshairs of desperate survivors who resort to despicable trickery, not only to take their belongings but also their lives.
Along the way, Chandler learns that Amanda hasnt been completely truthful about her pasta past filled with unresolved loss and longheld secrets, leading to a future where the unknown has deadly consequences.
Just when they think they are safe, they find out the danger has only just begun, Well written series
Chris Pike is emerging as a polished author, There are a number of new authors writing dystopian novels now, Many allow the story to run away like a spooked horse, Chris holds the reins. Chris Chandler and Amanda Hardy leave Dillon and Holly to take Amanda home to Austin, With everything seemingly running as well as can be expected post EMP at the ranch now is as good a time as any, Their journey will be anything but smooth even though it has been made easier by having the horses that Holly loaned them, All along the way danger is waiting to challenge their wit and their resolve, It is also a time for Chandler and Amanda to learn more about one another, What they learn may
be more dangerous to them over time than anything else,
Pikes third novel in The EMP Survivor Series, Unknown World: A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Survival Fiction Series, explores a new set of characters while expanding on the ones we already know.
She does a good job of bringing in history without it distracting from the storyline, The pace is fast and makes for a quick read, Be ready for a thrill ride and gutwrenching action,
Surprisingly to me was the breakdown in editing/proofreading in this book, Books one and two were very well done, This book had two continuity errors between book two and three, There were at least three times the wrong name was used, It was suggested to me that I had an older version, If so, this is the latest version on Amazon, Maybe, it hadnt been updated yet
Overall, it is a good addition to the series,
out ofstars, HOOK 'EM!!!
