volete leggere la mia recensione, cliccate qua! sitelink blogspot. com/ Whedon's dialogue makes me less batty than Claremont's dialogue, Yes, I know Claremont is not writing XMen now, but I am also not reading XMen now, and I can only comment on what I know.
Kitty Pryde is better than you, Was good but needed to read Volumefirst I think This volume collects the back half of Joss Whedon's two year stint writing the XMen, and it does a great job bringing together the stories he started in volume.
Whedon's first two sixissue arcs felt largely like standalone, oneoff stories, Here, though, we see that those stories were actually the first chapters in a larger, masterful work,
In terms of writing and art and character development and much more, volumeis more of the same, Obviously. But what sets this book apart is the way it propels towards a grand conclusion, And that conclusion is what really elevates this collection, While the storytelling is good to great throughout Whedon's run, the conclusion is probably the best thing about it, A very satisfying, entertaining piece of Xfiction, Pretty much equal in quality to the first two arcs, Torn is a bit weird, and works better on a reread, Unstoppable is probably my favourite arc, and does an admirable job of tying all the threads together, Whedon does an especially good job of exploring Cyclops and Emma, and personally I think no one has ever written their relationship as well as he does.
The ending is bittersweet in a way that really works, and thoughtfully leaves in the ways to undo it, My only real complaint is that cyclops gets his visor back with no real explanation, I would have preferred he remain able to control his abilities for awhile longer, I wasnt expecting a finale that bloated, Too much uninteresting stuff going on, the character relationships were very weak and I couldnt care less about the space plot, The only silverlining was the art style, It had a few great splash pages, I don't think the quality quite holds up to the earlier portions of the story, Something in the Breakworld bit just didn't resonate with me, I'll say, though, that there is a scene with Shadowcat near the end that is one of the most evocative, cinematic comic book moments I've ever seen.
Would love to see that make it to the big screen someday, The saga continues. I still hate Emma Frost, But I've always been fond of Cyclops, and this had a rather poignant story arc for him, as well as for Kitty Pryde and Colossus.

Words cannot describe how much I love this series.
This conclusion to Joss Whedons story arc was EPIC! It was intense and emotional and even characters who never show emotions started crying because of the outcome of this story.
It was pretty great! I know that it doesnt SOUND like I should be describing that as great but sometimes thats how you know its great writing because youre left feeling sad and empty at the end of it
Anyway, theres not a whole lot of stuff to say about this book other than how much I enjoyed it.
This is a whole ongoing series, even if Joss Whedon isnt writing it anymore, and its all just great, This is the best part of the series, though, The firstissues are just pure gold and theyre pretty hard to beat in my opinion, Ill probably go and review the rest of the series but theres a lot that happens in between this story arc and the next so well see.
We see so much character development in this and it really contributes to how certain things play out in the future of the Marvel comics.
It was so fun to watch these characters learn so much throughout the life and death moments on this volume and I was ALL there for it! We also got to see other characters that werent necessarily part of the XMen team, and how they interact with them.
The only thing Im going to say on that topic is that SpiderMan is very entertaining in this story and I wish we wouldve seen more of him!
Allinall, This whole story arc volumes one and two of the ultimate collection is very much worth the read.
It is just a fun and exciting story that I personally got so invested in! The second half of Whedpn's XMen run is much messier than the first.
With a lesser artist, it would probably just be a three star book, but Cassaday is just as strong here as he was in volume one.
The main problem is it gets quickly convoluted as it tries to tie in too many elements from
Morrison's run, while still adding its own characters and themes into the mythos, and it doesn't work.
It's still very readable, as the dialog is crisp, and it's clearly building to something, but the Emma survivor's guilt/Cassandra/Hellfire/Negasonic Teenage Warhead/Danger storyline isn't as smart as it imagines it is.
Still, the ending is important, and, again, the real star is Cassaday's art, And ninteteenth century Fopverine. This Astonishing XMen run is really great, Joss Whedons writing that continues from collectionand builds on it is great, I also really like the team assembled Ive liked the dynamic between Emma and Scott more so than if it were Scott and Jean.
An Astonishing conclusion to the best XMen standalone series I have ever read, Amazing script full of witty dialogue and twists by Joss Whedon and sublime art and panel layout by Jon Cassaday, Cyclops, who I usually don't like, is a kickass leader here best suited for the role, Emma Frost as secondincommand is more than just a walking eye candy her strategy and telepathy proving more useful than Prof X's ever was.
Beast also surprised me as an effective character and fighter, as he mostly took support/healer roles in other XMen books, His fight with Wolverine here is a testament to that, Speaking of the Wolverine, Logan is pretty much the same here as in any other story, but the book does feature the reveal of his classicinspired "Astonishing" yellow spandex that will become a staple for years to come.
Colossus is a decent character and has some good fight scenes, but he stood out mostly for me due to his shipping with Kitty.
And damn, Kittywhat a babe! As the true main protagonist of the Astonishing run, Kitty Pryde has grown to become a mature woman and a bonafide femme fatale without ever going to thread the sexy route cough Emma Frost cough Indeed Kitty is sexy without the need to show any skin, and that says a LOT.
Although she did show some and I had no problem with that!
A mustread for any XMen fan, The book along with Volumehas a very "graphic novel" feel to it more akin to DC standalone stories that I love, both in story, panel layout and art.
Sadly there has not been an XBook is that an actual term that meets the same standard after this run, but you can just jump in Astonishing Volwithout any prior XKnowledge again is that a term and enjoy the comic for what it isone of the best XStories you will ever read! Wow, this was kicking around ato.
