Procure Poetry For Young People: William Carlos Williams Constructed By William Carlos Williams Rendered As Print

magnificent collection of Williams's work, A wonderful way to introduce young people to one of America's greatest poets, I love William Carlos Williams but my kids could not get into it at all, I have a theory that it's better read than heard, It's difficult to express the line breaks, Oh well. I don't know if this is the same edition I read mine was edited by Christopher MacGowan, not Robert Crockett but this entry in the uniformly excellent Poetry for Young People series doesn't disappoint.
The introductory material about the poet's life is clear, concise, and interesting, written in such a way that the intended audience learns the highlights of Williams' biography without becoming bogged down with unimportant details.
The selection of poetry featured here is also decent, and I appreciate the blurbs that introduce each poem, For example, "This is Just to Say" is introduced as follows: "Williams thought that what a poem had 'to say' did not have to be about grand feelings or major events, but could be about the moments of ordinary, everyday life, like this message from Williams to his wife.
We can almost taste and enjoy the plums along with the poet, There are no superfluous words, and the title even serves as the poem's first line: This is Just to Say, . . " I appreciate the simplicity of his writing, He is a photographer of thingsbut he uses words instead of a camera, Who Knew

I found the intros and art helpful as an adult too, This fantastic collection of illustrated poems is perfect for teaching imagism to my creative writing and English students, one of the best things Ive ever read I love this great series, Reading this gave me a greater appreciation of Williams poems, I love the idea of combining poetry with artwork, but the artwork here I just didn't enjoy, Nevertheless, it is helpful having some illustrated poems by great poets to share with elderly clients, One thing I appreciate about this series are the editor's introduction and comments, Even if I don't always agree with them, they are thoughtprovoking, Today one of my clients seemed to really enjoy the Red Wheelbarrow, and This Is Just To Say, So glad I bought a copy of this beautiful book as I want to read it again and again and
