Thomas Young des cubri este gnero de astigmatismo sobre l mismo, y en una memoria titulada Anomalas de refraccin que pu blic en, tuvo el error de generalizar demasiado el caso particular observado sobre l mismo, y decir que el
astigmatismo dependa siempre de una asimetra de curvatura del cristalino.
Si la curvatura de la crnea es igualmente asimtrica, el astigmatismo producido por esta causa se aadir al astigmatismo cristaliniano si es en el mismo meridiano, lo neutralizar ms menos si es en un meridiano perpendicular al primero.
