Cuando empecé a leer este libro, pensé que me encontraría con una simple historia de amor, . . Pero no, lo que encontré fue una preciosa historia que poco a poco me fue atrapando por su maravillosa ambientación.

Kai buvau pradėjusi ją skaityti anglų kalba, visai neatrodė, jog skaitau super duper lengvą meilės romaną, Bet tęsiant skaitymą lietuviškai, ar čia tik man taip pasirodė, bet viskas vyko kur kas banaliau, Suprantama, kad daug kas priklauso nuo vertėjo darbo, bet kartais, atrodo, jie parenka tokias frazes, žodžius ar manierą ir "supaprastina" kūrinį.

Parduotuvė, kuri pavergė tūkstančius jau bėgu googlinti, Šiek tiek Kubos revoliucijos, šiek tiek įdomių ir žinomų personų, kaip Batista, Če Gevara, Kastro, taip pat įvairių aktorių, kurie akis į akį susitiko su knygos personažais taip pakreipdami jų gyvenimą kita linkme.

I knew not far into this book that it was going to be one of my favorites for the year.
For starters, it was so Interesting with the cultures imbedded, Historical fiction is a newer genre for me and being that this one has romance intertwined had me all wrapped up.
There were happy parts, sad parts, heart wrenching parts, I truly loved this story, La historia me ha gustado mucho y eso que en principio no era una historia de mi estilo, porque es una historia de amor prohibido y las dificultades a las que se enfrenta durante toda una vida.

Mantengo que leer el libro es como estar viendo una película,
Si os gustan este tipo de historias estoy segura de que El encanto os va a cautivar desde las primeras páginas.

The writing seemed juvenile at some points but I think that has more to do with the translation and less to to do with the Authors abilities.
I would definitely recommend the story, Lovely story

This is a beautiful, historical love story that spansyears, It tells of soul mate love, friendship, and survival, Old Havana comes alive in this book, I'm not familiar with the history of Havana during this era, so I can't speak to it's historical accuracy, but the settings and story felt true.
It doesn't read like a translated book, although it is, It took awhile for me to get into the book, but once I did, I felt like I had been transported to another world.
I didn't realize when I bought this audio book I was getting a sappy, romance story, with mobsters, starcrossed lovers and all the trimmings.
I thought it was historical fiction about Cuba before the revolution, Ah, well. It wasn't so bad that I had to stop listening, Cynthia Farrell and the always good Thom Rivera did a nice job on the narration, and the history seemed fairly accurate.

Bueno pues reitero todas sus palabras, que MARAVILLA.
Uniendo realidad y ficción, la historia nos transporta a La Habana y a los grandes almacenes que dan nombre al libro que ojo, existieron y fueron los precursores de El Corte Inglés y Galerías Preciados

Y ahí comienza esta novela que está rodeada de hechos históricos que son totalmente verídicos: la llegada a Cuba ende miles de españoles que buscaban un lugar donde ganarse la vida, las estrellas de Hollywood que desfilaron por La Habana Ava Gagdner, Frank Sinatra, la mafia que tenía compradas a miles de personas y contra la que nadie podía luchar y los primeros años de la Revolución Cubana con la figura de Che Guevara.


Y bueno, del final no puedo decir nada, pero si lo habéis leído sabéis de lo que hablo

Si buscas una historia envolvente que te haga sentir que todo lo que sucede es real, no lo dudes.

Como asturiana no reconozco a los asturianos como tales, los veo forzados y con fallos enormes como decir "sidriña" sidrina o "terruña" tierrina.

No consigo meterme en la época ni en el ambiente cubano,
Descripciones y datos a mi juicio, metidos a calzador como quien coge hechos y los va incluyendo en la novela.

Una historia que me produce sentimientos encontrados porque engancha y esta bien pero tiene cosas que no me han convencido.

El final, ha seguido el nivel del libro y no me ha entusiasmado,
Es un libro que ha gustado y me han recomendado mucho así que dejo de vuestra mano darle una oportunidad.

The genre of this novel is Historical Romance, I usually am not attracted to this type of book, Most romance to me seems contrived, Not so this book.

Patricio leaves a destitute Spain to make his fortune in Havana, His salesmanship prowess is so potent, he lands a job in Havana's most prestigious department store, El Encanto,

César Valdés is a don, a gangster, a mafioso, He 'owns' Havana and all the law enforcement officials in it,

Gloria is a young beautiful girl of, César takes a fancy to her and marries her at this tender age,

Of course, you know where this is going, Patricio and Gloria fall madly in love, despite the dangers involved.
The story continues throughout their lives, with all the stolen kisses and other events! you would expect,

Maravilloso!!! This is a wonderful love story set largely in sumptuous preRevolutionary Cuba and then into the times of Castro and Ché who are intricately portrayed in the latter chapters.
The protagonist and his friends are from Asturias in Spain Patricio, the hero, falls in love with the young wife of one of the vicious mafia leaders.
The rest of the book is about how this unfolds and the surprise ending is particularly magnificent, Read it! I enjoyed my time with this, I noted that this comes almost on the heels of my having read Graham Greene's sitelinkOur Man in Havana, The time period is not quite identical, but discussing the Greene in a group it was noted how that one gave a good feeling about the Havana of the time.

I knew Havana was a postwar place of glamour and glitz, The author has been a screenwriter and that skill comes through, The book is written in scenes, though I wouldn't quite call it cinematic, She just does a superb job of placing the reader alongside the characters and I could easily see whatever was going on in any particular scene, whether it was in the department store, a nightclub, or home.


There are two narrators: Patricio and Gloria, The chapters don't exactly alternate, but it is always clear who is telling the story, Because of this, those two characters are welldrawn, The more minor characters are more caricatures than characterizations, The writing style is OK, but I think that's not why one would read this book, At least it's not why I kept turning pages,

Still, this isn't literature and I can't find all the that others might be willing to give, It is perhaps in the lower part of mystar group and I hope I'm not being stingy or generous, .
