Achieve Forking Good: A Cookbook Inspired By The Good Place Scripted By Valya Dudycz Lupescu Listed As Paper Copy
enjoyed reading this book, Will I cook anything out of it No probably not, But I really like the show "the good place" and I found the philosophy discussions interesting, It was cute and a fun read, This book was inspired by the philosophy and food humor from the show "The Good Place, " It contains thirty recipes for the adventurous cook to try, My favorite is Dante's nine layers of torture bars, Be sure to share. Lots of colorful illustrations are included in the book and lots of philosophy to be learned and enjoyed, I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads, Un très bon livre de recettes sympa qui joue sur la vibe de The Good Place, C'est drôle, il y a de la philosophie, des jeux de mots, et des alternatives végé, Vegan, sans gluten etc.
Un must pour les fans de la série ! I read this book not because I'm a fan of the show but because if the subject of the show comes up during Jeopardy I don't want to be completely ignorant.
The recipes are nothing special, very pedestrian, but the titles are humorous, If you're a fan of the show this is probably a must read, I won this cookbook in a Goodreads Giveway, I've never seen the show, but the stories inside the book are funny to very quirky, Many of the recipes I would like to try out, When it comes to cookbooks, I'm not much on words, so, . . I agree with most reviews that its sad they reference some of the iconic meals in the show without ever making the recipes.
However, this book did a genuinly good job of combining food and philosophy together, which was the whole point of the show.
In addition, it tied the recipes to moments in the show, and offered vegan/GF options, It gets a win out of my book, This book is so much fun, I dont normally post cookbooks as books Ive read, Theres a reason Im posting this one, its more than a cookbook, It is an book that also has recipes,
If you love the Good Place, this will be a good book for you, If you havent watched it yet, maybe this book will show you a bit about how fun it is.
This book digs in to a lot of the philosophical ideas mentioned in The Good Place, It explains a bit about the idea, mentions how it applies to The Good Place, gives an example of the philosophical idea in action, then it incorporates a recipe that references both the philosophical idea and The Good Place.
The recipes Im going to try first are Eggistential Crisis and Demon Prawn,
Since I havent tried any recipes yet, I wasnt sure I should assign a star rating yet.
I may come back after trying the recipes and rate it, Its not just a cookbook its a cool treat from the TV show The Good Place, Full of cute tidbits and quotes from the show and beyond, I love it for more than the cookbook, Disclaimer: I received this ARC courtesy of Quirk Books, I am grateful for the opportunity to review an ARC for my readers, but this will not influence my final rating.
All opinions expressed in this review are my own and based solely on the book,
This sadly wasn't forking good,
The moment that I saw The Good Place cookbook, I was convinced I needed this, Sha turned me onto The Good Place earlier this year, and I binge read it all in a few short weeks.
It's such a wonderful show with amazing twists and turns, humor, and heart, I love it, and Sha and I totally recommend, So a cookbook Based on this epic show SIGN ME THE FORK UP,
That being said, I wasn't quite impressed with this read, Tbh, it felt more like a short history on philosophy Like, we got more information on the big name philosophers that Chidi talks about throughout the shows.
I mean, there are by farx more information on them than talking about The Good Place, I just wanted for more fun Good Place references, and I really wasn't that enthralled learning more about the theories, philosophers, etc.
I also wasn't really a fan of any of the recipes, Nothing really called out to me, I was hoping for a few more desserts um, especially a good frozen yogurt one but most of the recipes, I really didn't see any that I liked.
A few of the dessert ones looked intriguing, and I might try them, but they just didn't fit really with my tastes nor appealed to me to try.
Overall, this had some cute moments, but I didn't really enjoy this, I thought it was more of a homage to philosophy than The Good Place, A few of the desserts might be worth a try,

read this if you: if you really love philosophy, enjoy touches of The Good Place references, and aren't a picky eater I hate to do this because I love the show The Good Place.
There are no actual pictures of food in this cookbook, Im not that inspired or super trusting that these recipes are anything to write home about, Fun to relate food to philosophy, but at the end of the day its a cookbook, I need to want and understand how to make the food, A fluffy fun read for the fans of the show many "inside" jokes,
Twas very well done, Honestly I am astonished. It even has some boards in the back of the book for a smooth transition from the US cooking metric system to the actual metric system! As an S.
I. gal , I can appreciate that, I really loved this book because first of all The good place is one of my favorite television series so because of that when I saw this book I was very excited to read it.
One of my favorite thing about this book is that for each recipe there is a little part of the tv show and how they got inspired by it or from which episode was the recipe from for example the clam chowder was inspired from the clam chowder fountain.
I would rate this a ten out of ten and would recommend this to anyone who watched the good place.
Forking Good: An Unofficial Cookbook for Fans of The Good Place
The day before I got this book, my husband offered to go to the store to get what I needed for a roast.
I asked him to buy a specific type of potato, He returned with every potato that the store carried except the sort I wanted, What was I going to do with a bunch of potatoes Especially purple potatoes The first recipe in this book is for HUME FRIES hah get the pun It required purple potatoes problem solved!
The recipes in this book contain a brief summary of the episode from THE GOOD PLACE that inspired it.
This book is a good basic cookbook that is very entertaining, This show is the one thing we agree about television and watch together, I am so sad that it is ending but I will
have this cookbook to remind me of the episodes always.
Plus, it saved my husband, PEEPS and MampM chili yes
So this review is really more of an endorsement of "The Good Place" than of this cookbook.
Your enjoyment of this book is almost entirely dependent on your enjoyment of "The Good Place", which I LOVED LOVED LOVED and already miss! If you think TGP is a smart, funny television program and enjoy nerdy philosophy puns and quotes from favorite shows, you will very much enjoy the hour or two it takes to read this.
Oh, and there are a couple of recipes in there also, The recipes were clever and I loved the graphics, I loved all the recipes based on Blake Bortles, However, I'm not a philosophy person, Each recipe was prefaced by an essay relating the recipe to philosophy and the show, I understand why this was included since the show is steeped in philosophy, but it made the book drag.
I'm not a fan of recipe blogs that make you scroll through a whole long story before you get to the recipe, and that's what this felt like.
I loved the show and hated seeing it end, This book made me chuckle over the philosophical dilemmas that they all dealt with but tied it to some mouthwatering recipes.
Cheered me up just to see the quotes and explanations again, See the show, get the book, Fork why not! A fun book exploring some of the philosophies covered in the show The Good Place.
Each recipe ties in, in some way, to either the show or a philosphy/philosopher, It's a great quality book the commentary is fun and interesting, and some of the recipes look great, I took off a star because there are no photos of the food, The graphics are great upbeat and fun, but I like photos of the actual recipes, .
