Get It Now One Night With His Virgin Mistress Envisioned By Sara Craven Available Through Digital Edition
need i say more!,stars
Sadly disappointing, . . Primary lesson I learned from reading this book: Do not judge books by their titles! I've always poked fun and been leery about romances mostly Harlequin with cheesy titles.
In fact, this book was given to me as a gag gift, but curiosity got the best of me and I can't let a book go to waste, regardless of the title/genre, so I cracked it open to try it out.
Tallie is a young, small town girl who moves to London to write a book, After saving money from doing odd jobs, she finds a gig housesitting for a millionaire bachelor, Tallie, however, doesn't know that the person who gives her the job isn't the owner of the house, and when Mark the real owner returns and catches Tallie in the shower, the two shock each other with their presence.
Mark begrudgingly agrees to let Tallie stay while she finishes her book and the two live in a tense, but sometimes comfortable silence.
One night, after returning from a bad date, Tallie propositions Mark to "deflower" her, no strings attached, Of course, there are always strings, and they pull heavily on Tallie's heart, If only she can decode what Mark is thinking and better yet if he feels the same about Tallie.
Book title aside, this was also the first British romance story I've read and it took some getting used to both grammatically and syntactically.
Once I got into the story I realized that it was actually written quite beautifully, I don't know if all UK books are written the same way, but the author definitely has a way with words, and spun them together to create lyrical sentences.
As someone with an appreciation for words, I totally appreciated her use of flowery language to depict an otherwise simple scene.
In regards to the plot, I enjoyed it too, The ending was predictable, as with most genre romances, but the path leading up to it was interesting and filled with delicious scenes and not just sexualrelated ones either.
While Tallie may have been a virgin, she was not stupid or naive in any way, which was refreshing.
Mark was brooding and mysterious, but subtly compassionate, which made his affectionate moments that much more precious,
This book was such an unexpected surprise, that it had me scrolling through other Harlequin category romances in search of an equally captivating story while, of course, ignoring the corny titles.
This book is adorable, although whoever picked the title should be fired, It has absolutely NOTHING to do with this story, Hee hee!
Grade: A Tallie has moved to London to pursue her dream, so when she's offered a gorgeous apartment to housesit, she can't believe her luck.
Millionaire Mark Benedict returns home and is shockedalthough not altogether displeasedto find Tallie in his shower! He will take Tallie to his bed and turn her from inexperienced innocent.
. . to his willing mistress! Tallie has moved to London to pursue her dream, so when she's offered a gorgeous apartment to housesit, she can't believe her luck.
Millionaire Mark Benedict returns home and is shockedalthough not altogether displeasedto find Tallie in his shower! He will take Tallie to his bed and turn her from inexperienced innocent.
. . to his willing mistress! Finished it with a smile, but it had a bit of a slump in the middle.
The heroine atseemed too young for the hero, It was told entirely from her point of view and I missed knowing what he was thinking, Some words from his point of view would have added to the story and helped me understand what he found enticing about her.
But despite that, it was a good HP book, Innocence meets sceptical and paranoid with a Happy Ever After, I enjoyed the read and am sure that I have read this book previously years ago, but still read as I couldn't remember parts of the story.
Enjoy the read. Before I continue let me say that I love Harlequintype books and will not ever apologise for reading that particular 'genre'.
This story does not have enough intensity to keep me interested, It reminds me of the older Romance Novels from thes ands where the Male POV is never shown and he therefore remains mostly aloof and unknown.
I usually read an 'easy' book to clear the palate but this one is just not interesting at all.
This book is a classic MampB category, What stood out for me was the parallel meta story, As the reader, you get glimpses into the main character's novel she's an author where she writes a rape/no consent scene.
When told by her editor that it was no longer PC to write these scenes, Tallie demures "but it's just a fantasy'.
This book have been written inand could be considered a reply to all of Sara Craven's critics as many of her books have some violent undertones.
I really liked the romance too, Well structured and sweet. I read this book ages ago and forgot all about it until I began reading, I enjoyed it back when and it still made me happy after this reading,
I love finding books that you can read years later and still find them just as enjoyable.
The H in this book was a stoic hero, literally, The h, well shes youngto his, Shes impulsive, sweet, innocent and believes that she cant get a guy to date her because shes a virgin.
So she asked the H to assist her in getting rid of her pesky virginity, no strings attached.
And promptly falls head over heels for the H,
Theres so much more to the story, And its all delicious. As an aspiring author, the h uses the H as a model for the villain in her story.
And she does a doozy on his character,
I was a bit down until I started this book, It was the perfect pickup, Im grinning now. Average.
I loved the strong portrayal of the heroine, She is young but definitely not dumb , A virgin unknown to the desires of her own flesh and meat.
But I loved how author interpreted Mariana's story with that of Tallie,
I thought Mark is a resemblance of william in the beginning , bt then of course Hugo entered and everything just changed , for good.
I Loved Mark , Atleast he loves her the way she is and does not expect her to be better or change for his own pleasures like Gareth.
There should have been more interactions between the leads , It all seemed Tallie'e monologue for most of the time , though I enjoyed it , it could have been better.
My thought.
But Of course it had a very sweet ending like any other harlequin presents and that leaves me smiling whenever I thnk about it.
Look, that title is wrong, because by even the most broad definition, you dont have a one night mistress.
Thats a hook up. I know the whole purpose of these titles is to give you some good keywords and some fairly unsubtle hints about whats going down, which means I only have to read a bit of the blurb to make sure none of the characters have names I dont like, so its a great time saver, but its got to be accurate.
I still do a bit of a hunt for subtlety, and here thats his because that means the hero is either not a sheik, a prince or a billionaire, or hes a sheik, a prince or a billionaire in disguise, and thats going to be somehow important in the story.
No spoilers: not planning to reveal how that pronoun actually works out,
Tallie the virgin gets two meetcutes, Love a good meetcute! I would read a Mementostyle thing where the story is just all meetcutes and then relationshipstatus update tattoos and then the twist where the heroine is tattooing lies to herself for Reasons, except that would be fairly dark and tragic and a bit too complicated for the word count of a Harlequin Presents.
The meetcutes are shower scene and drenched in coffee, both classics that should not be exposed to any glaring reality.
Shower scene is sexy because its naked, and because its terrifying, Fear is such a turn on, Although drenched in coffee is a bit dangerous, there are some opportunities for sweet rescue heroics and being plucky and cool about being embarrassed.
If theres some hidden symbolism, and if there was some kind of love triangle thing between guys with different meetcutes, the shower scene wins, because youre clean.
My rule is: never go with a meetcute that involved being a mess,
Tallie has heaps of problems, She wants to write a novel, but cant do that back home in the village, because her parents dont understand.
So shes living with her horrible cousin, Tallie had a crush on this guy and he was kind of warming up to show some interest in her, and then he met her horrible cousin and transferred affections.
Tallie mopes around heaps for a while, and finally works up the courage to ask why dont you like me and the guy says, well, its
you being a virgin that was the problem, I did a virgin once and it freaked me out.
Hes a charmer.
Tallies scraped together enough money so that she can support herself for a while to write full time, if she doesnt have to pay London rent.
A guy in a bar offers her a flat sitting job and she takes it, but it turns out that it was shady, and thats how she meets Mark, the flats real owner, while shes naked in his shower.
Hot, right
My problem, and I really am trying to limit the number of problems I have with books at the moment, is that Tallie isand Mark is.
I can cope with the age difference, but Id have been more comfortable if Tallie had beenor, because I cant help but think that atshes still a baby, and should be out getting her heart broken by selfish bratty guys around her own age or a twinge older, not embarking on an Adult Relationship.
Im sure shes very mature and love is blind to the age difference and all that and its not that I disapproved, I just kept trying to write her up in my head as a couple of years older.
After a sexually charged conversation that could have been a little more sensible, Mark lets her stay in the flat for a week so that she can find her own place, and that week of course gets extended.
Tallie thinks Mark is just awful, and he becomes the inspiration for the villain in her novel, and she starts transforming their encounters into the fictional encounters between her characters.
So its cutely obvious that shes protesting too much and really thinks that Mark is hot and awesome.
She is totally ready to be devirginized, because its clear to heryear old brain that her hymen is getting in the way of any chance she has for true love.
So she gets Mark to do it, just like the title, except without being the mistress.
Then they do that whole relationship thing where they cant talk about if theres anything more between them because while that whole one night of sex thing was really great, each is convinced thats all the other wanted.
Plus, Mark has an evil exlover who threatens to destroy Tallies hopes and dreams forever!
I liked the scenes from Tallies novel, and although she wasnt shaping up to be her fictional worlds next JK Rowling, it was nice to know that she would have something interesting and fun to do after the book ended.
