on The Candid Cover
Snow in Love is a cute and festive story that also has a fair bit of drama.
The Alaskan setting is absolutely perfect, and I enjoyed the relatable main character, This is a cute and fluffy holiday read that is he perfect thing to curl up with this winter.
This book tells the story of a girl whose boyfriend shows up in her town with a new girlfriend.
In an attempt to make him jealous, she starts hanging out with another guy and ends up starting to fall for him.
I loved the Alaskan setting, especially since I havent read too many books set there, Snow in Love makes Alaska seem like the ultimate winter destination, and I would definitely love to go there after reading it.
The plot is pretty clichéd, but honestly, I like that sort of thing in fluffy holiday reads.
I enjoyed Jessies character in the book, She works at the ice cream parlour that her parents run, and shes so relatable, I liked the way she deals with the mean girls in town, and she has a great group of friends.
Jessies cluelessness and naiveté did get a bit frustrating at times, but overall, she entertained me,
Snow in Love is a short and sweet book that is perfect for the holidays.
I loved the wintry setting and the female friendships in the story, There were certain aspects that didnt impress me, but I still found this one pretty cute, This books was so sweet, It was Sweet Valley High meets some sort of foodie book, I love all the different icecream references, It made me hungry. Lol. Jessie lives in Alaska with her parents and works in the family icecream shop, It is winter break, and she finds herself in a love triangle, I love the humor and the characters that Ray writes, I would love to see a sequel, This book is amusing and appropriate and I think relatable for teens and adults alike, Also published on sitelink blogspot. ca/
This was a really cute winter read, It's a lot like the small teen beach reads that aren't too emotionally investing but are light, fun, flirty, and always turn out all right in the end.
I enjoyed the characters, for the most part, Jessie, the narrator and protagonist was a pretty typical teenage girl who is in a long distance relationship and when he shows up in Alaska with a new girl, she reacts a lot like an average teenage girl would.
I really wanted her to be stronger about what happened, but I'm sure I wouldn't have reacted any better than she did! I felt that she was pretty realistic and had her clever and funny moments, as well as a little attitude in her narrative voice, which I really appreciated.
She was a little oblivious sometimes though! She also had two great friends to lean on who, although being pretty opposite people from each other, were fun and completed the friendship circle dynamic very well.
Will, another friend, is very cute, very flirty, and I really liked him! He definitely provided some relief when I started to get a little tired of the story.
I had a few issues with the story because I have read a fair amount of books like this and it felt like the same storyline as all of those other ones.
I did expect this though, so I wasn't too disappointed, I also felt like Jessie was waaaay overly cautious at times and it drove me a little crazy! There were also moments I was literally speaking to the book, saying "No, Jessie! No no no!".
So I definitely didn't always agree with what she did! I did have a good giggle or two though, which was really enjoyable.
I have to give itStars,.This was an okay read, not particularly great nor particularly not so great, It's a quick, breezy read,
The things I liked:
The setting in Alaska with the snowcovered mountains and the small town and the winter festival.
All of that added nice detail to the book and I could imagine being there and skiing and snow boarding.
The story was pleasant to read, ended up pretty much where I thought it was going, but still it was fun to see it play out.
Jessie's family members were nice additions to the story, I liked that her family was close and loving, but didn't care much for her mother's initial reaction to her daughter's heartache, she seemed to merely brush it off as if it wasn't important.
But when the mean girls appeared, her mom stepped up and let Jessie know she was on her side, so I did like that.
The little brother's antics were fun,
I liked the different personalities of her friends, Abby and Erin would have liked to know them better.
Abby's crush on Cam added a nice counterpoint to the main story,
Things I didn't like:
The almost stalkerish behavior of Jessie to her exboyfriend, Jake, or is hewas a bit over the top, although maybe this is typical teenage behavior, I don't know.
The plotting to get Jake, back without even having a single conversation about what has or hasn't gone wrong between them was irritating.
Come on, she's been dumped and doesn't ask even one time what happened This didn't make sense to me.
The new girlfriend, Evie, was actually a really nice girl and didn't deserve what Jessie did to her, imo.
Jessie didn't stop to consider that Evie believed Jessie was someone from the past and that Jake had possibly lied to both girls or else simply avoided the unpleasant conversations.
This seemes very unfair, although Jessie did try to make amends in the end, possibly too little to late, but she did at the very least address that she'd been wrong, although she didn't tell Evie that.
Will was a great character, but I'd have liked to have a few more conversations betwee him and Jessie.
I'd have liked him to tell her straight up that she was who he wanted, that he'd been waiting for her to drop the loser Jake and see him as more than a friend.
Great character, but
not allowed to develop enough,
All in all, I'd recommend it, but know what you're getting, It's very light and fluffy, nothing wrong with that,
Note: I'd have given this one three except for the use of the expression "holy crow" which is odd and I've only read it in one book and authors shouldn't 'borrow' something weird that no teenager actually every says.
Cute, fast read. I liked the story overall but was annoyed with the main character and to how blind she was to what was happening, and how she responded to the situation.
I didn't realize this was going to be a YA, It was good but hard for me to be in a high schoolers head, I love all the books that were published under this line, Quick fun reads that really are just there to make you happy once you've finished them, I loved hearing about Alaska and the cute little shops especially all the ice cream recipes, .
