Capture Magickal Mediumship: Partnering With The Ancestors For Healing And Spiritual Development Edited By Danielle Dionne Shown As Script
had heard Danielle Dionne speaking during a video event on Llewellyn, and became interested in reading Danielle's book, I was surprised by all the information in the book, I will admit I worry about reading some books because of the trendiness that comes and goes of certain subjects,
First was the different types of ancestors, Mostly I hear about those of blood and not the others as was told, The calling on spirits was simple but beautiful, The chant under Preparing for the Work was also simple and beautiful, The details and explanations under The Mediumship Session were detailed and written in a way that was easy to understand, The examples of the sections and the steps made it even easier to understand, The way Dionne describing assessing the relationship to the sitter and the chart helped me understand that part so much clearer, The chart visualization helped to put it in a better perceptive,
I have often wondered about what types of offerings would be good and the chart gives you a good list, The planetary energy explanation was very much needed on my end, The exercises throughout and the exercise of meeting a spirit guide lays out what you need to know, do, and
answers to possible questions you may have.
I have always wondered how to go about ancestral magick and that section was a great help with what to try and examples.
With candle color associations, having them laid out right there made it easier, The book gives interpretations of what it means when a candle burns a certain way, The Blessing of the Body was also beautiful and was not religiousbased so it would have a wide range of use,
Overall this book was aout of, It's great for a beginner and for someone who wants to learn more without fearing the trendiness some would fear,
Absolutely loved this! I received this from NetGalley and I am so glad I was able to get an ARC,./for going a bit deeper than the average intro witchcraft book, However, there are still some elements that I wish she talked about in more detail, I will probably peruse the bibliography and recommended reading, Magickal Mediumship Partnering with the Ancestors for Healing and Spiritual Development by Danielle Dionne

Exercises
The author explains what it means to be a medium and how she began her work.
She divided the book so that the reader learns about mediumship in stages, She provides many exercise to help the reader work on the different skills required, This is a very detailed book on psychic connection with spirits, If you have a desire to connect with the afterlife, I highly recommend this book, I loved this! I equally enjoyed the parts about mediumship as well as ancestor veneration, The chapters about mortality and providing after death care for a loved one were thought provoking and fascinating to me, Until just a few generations ago in North America, families cared for the bodies of their loved ones after death and prepared them for burial.
I listened to the audiobook and will purchase the ebook so I can quickly access the lists of herbs, crystals, and deities, I have already started to listen to the audiobook a second time and will definitely refer to it again, So Ill be honest I was drawn to this book based on cover alone and didnt really have any idea what the book was about.
Let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised, I have never been one to want to work with ancestors, however this book has changed my mind, I have purchased a copy for myself to study and explore further!
I received a free review copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest unedited feedback.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC,
For the record, I am a psychic medium,
I will admit to you right off the bat that this was a DNF,
Perhaps I should have read the description more thoroughly this is definitely a book that is umbrellaed by Witchcraft and Witchcraft concepts and ideas.
She is a part of the Temple of Witchcraft which she mentions later that brings with it a biased mindset and viewpoint on a lot of the spiritual concepts mentioned in this book.
I dont adhere to this practice, and it does not resonate with me, In fact, a lot of aspects of specific practices in this book made me uncomfortable, Thats why I didnt finish it, My red flag for this book came early when she quoted Aleister Crowley, a dude I dont take advice from, Too. Much. Darkness. Just look at a picture of him and youll see what I mean, Yikes.
Danielle Dionne defines Magickal Mediumship as “the partnership with the dead to enact your magick and enhance your life, ” Hmmm, yikes again. I definitely didnt read the description, because honouring the dead is one thing, but partnering with them is not my cup of tea,
She defines mediumship as “Communication with spirits of the dead,” because thats what she was taught, It is so much more than that, And a medium who focuses on human spirits who have passed misses the opportunity to connect to far wiser people of the God Force, She disregards these other connections as part of the definition, I dont use the dead to get messages unless they have specific guidance or healing they wish to bring forth to the person inquiring, Playing with the dead is not a fun idea for me, Theyre far happier on that side, believe me, And they're so low level on the spiritual scale that you risk bringing in someone you simply don't want to invite into your space,
I stopped reading shortly after the Trance Mediumship section where she talked about going into a trance state as ayearold and didnt warn against this do you think anyyearold is spiritually, mentally, and emotionally prepared to battle against what dark entity could come forward during a trance mediumship session She says that if you feel the pull to Trance to explore it, with no warnings.
Yikes, times three.
Thats where I stopped, This isnt my cup of tea, Beautiful cover, weird jujus. It might be appreciated by someone else who walks this path, Wonderful book on mediumship work, I really appreciate the humbleness and the truth, Danielle looks at all walks of life and includes everyone, This was such a breath of fresh air! I appreciate a book that just tells you the facts without making a big deal about things that don't matter.
Recommended for everyone looking for open perspectives, I loved this easy to follow book on being a medium, While some of the information was not new to me, it wonderful to have it all in one convenient location, The first two parts of the book: "Mediumship and Magick" and "Connecting with the Dead" were my favorite and I really appreciate the way in which Danielle Dionne explains the process she uses.
I understand how difficult it can be to put the process into words, and she does an incredible job,
Dionne teaches different types of mediumship and how people are able to pick up on the things they do whether it's through hearing, seeing, an inner voice, an outer voice, combinations of any and all of the above.
Chapter four, which includes descriptions of our different souls Blood, Bone, Star was particularly interesting, followed by Chapter five with the different types of ancestors we have.
Dionne follows the CERT process and explains what this means along with her own adjustments to make it work better for her,
You will learn all kinds of great mediumship information in this book, from the history of spirit communication right up to the herbs and oils that can help you make your connection.
Fascinating and fun, this has been one of the best books I have read in a long time,
I thought that this was a great book for anyone interested in mediumship, I liked how the author took the time to explain the different types of mediums, spiritualism, and types of mediumship, This is a great place for beginners to start, Learning to work with my ancestors is something I had been wanting to learn for a while and this book was extremely helpful, The exercises included were easy to follow and practice and something I intend to integrate with my existing practices, The section on confronting our mortality was also eyeopening, The only thing I did not like was there were times when it felt like reading a textbook, however, I really enjoyed this highly informative book.
This book has an interesting approach, Much of it is based on what the author learned in the church of Spiritualism then filtered through her own work in Christopher Penczak's Temple of Witchcraft.
If you read this book with those facts in mind, you can gain a lot from the manuscript,
I appreciated the way the book was broken up and the way it was all laid out for you in the introduction, Dionne covers working with the dead in more than one way, She offers her thoughts and research on various Death Deities one of those is the controversial Santa La Muerta personally I love the Bony Lady, but some don't.
If you are hoping to learn how to talk to the dead, this is a very good start, I would supplement this book with some of the books she mentions for her own bibliography only because she does come across as a bit dogmatic here and there.
For the most part, I found her to be clear on what was her dogma versus the type of dogma that is One Way, That is something I look for in any book, I don't need someone to tell me their way, I need them to show me their way then let me make up my own mind about it, All in all, she accomplished that very well other than those few spots, I won't quote them as I don't think that is fair, What I find dogmatic, you may not,
I do recommend this book with the caveat that you don't use it as the only way to contact the dead, I think even the author might agree with that, i think that there is plenty to like here and plenty to learn and even argue about but im not trying to make a career of mediumship so some of it just wasnt for me.
and some of it felt redundant and a bit like filler, id recommend this as a reference book but not an enthralling read, As a certified Medium I came across this book during my medium studies, As someone who is trained medium and practicing witch I thought this was a great connection between the two worlds who still get often separated.
The balance between lesson and practice is perfect in this book, Overall loved it.
A very comprehensive book on how to develop and nurture the gift of mediumship through Paganism in a safe, simple, and clear way.
The author includes a lot of detail about the exercises but also about the theory behind each one, and I loved that she didn't include a lot of anecdotes about her work to focus on the content and the needs of the reader.
Highly, highly recommended. Not quite what I was hoping for, I was expecting a book on tying a mediumship practice into a witchcraft practice, It was more a book about dealing with death as a witch,
That said, the discussions of mediumship were good if you know nothing about mediumship, And the discussions about death gave me a great deal to think about, As someone who is very new to the metaphysical world, I appreciated that this book is designed for people like me, Some aspects resonated, some didnt, The parts that resonated the most for me were honoring and connecting with ancestors and death care, The last few chapters had some really practical suggestions for doing our best to carry out a loved ones wishes around death, Thank you NetGalley for this advance reader copy, Make Contact with Your Beloved Dead for Personal Transformation amp Powerful Magick
