this witch walks into a bar, . .
This turned out to be a fun, quick little read yet packed a big wallop in fractured fairytale entertainment.
I didn't know what to expect when I decided to download this little ditty from 'Kindle Unlimited' but enjoyed it enough that I'll be reading more in the series.
Thank you, Ms, Mason. You've written a clever, humorous tale complete with a kooky witch my favorite!, aging semiretired dragon, valorless prince, damsel in distress among others in this crazy cast of characters.
I look forward to reading more of their future misadventures! P A Mason's Gretchen is a protagonist we can all sympathize with, just being the best witch she can be and trying to make an honest herbalinfused living.
In this novella, a sequel to Toll Hunter: Witch for Hire and first in a Getchencentred series, she is whisked away unexpectedly to take part in an unorthodox clandestine diplomatic operation which is supposed to result in marriage of the local Prince.
No, not to Gretchen! But she saves the day when the youth gets spooked, and makes powerful friends in literally! high places.
Very short book
Disappointingly short book, but mildly entertaining and amusing, Will probably read the next one also, Good for waiting for doctor appointment, A Witch just looking to make a living has joined a traveling company, This company "tests" princes to see if they have what it takes to win a fair maiden/princess, The characters are a bit whimsical and entertaining, Gretchen is not sure what she signed up for, This is a pretty good book, I would recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review, The land of fairytales with a modern twist
This was such a creative story written in fairytale land of witches, trolls, dwarfs, and kings yet the dialogue was present day.
I felt like I was watching a Disney movie with a hilarious witch, This witch needs more than a wicked sense of humor to be the hero in a quirky quest she never saw coming.
It was an ordinary afternoon at The Salt and Bog until the city guards turned up, While sipping ale among outcasts and misfits, Gretchen gets called on for an audience with the King, . . whether she wants one or not, Hauled back to the palace in secrecy, this witch for hire gets an offer too good to refuse, But when shes locked in a dungeon with bickering goblins and a smug dragon, the proposition looks shady,
A damsel is in distress, A prince is on his way, All is not as it seems,
Living from hand to mouth, Gretchen pushes aside her reservations to keep her eyes on the prize the Kings coin.
To earn it, will she be willing to take the dragon by the horns When a happily ever after is at stake, she must paint a heroic picture for those who are watching.
Because when this fairy tale goes down in the history books, the people behind the scenes fade into obscurity which is exactly how Gretchen wants it.

This new short reads series from P.
A. Mason promises to be chockfull of things I enjoy,
Witches. Sarcasm. Fairy tale characters.
Subverting tropes. Humour.
I dont want to spoil the concept of this first instalment but just let me say that when I read why the King and Queen were hiring Gretchen for, I laughed out loud.
Gretchens a great character, I enjoy her sarcastic front, but underneath she really sees the good in people and just wants things to work out all right in the end.
This is the first in what will be a series of monthly installments on the Kindle shortreads store, but it is much more than that.

Thank you to P, A. Mason for supplying me with a free copy of this book in exchange for a review, The Damsel Gauntlet is Season One Book One in the Gretchen's MisAdventures series and is an amusing fantasy read,
This witch for hire story is a fairytale turned on its head with humour, quirky characters, bickering goblins, a dragon, and prince and damsel whose romance needs to be put to the test.
This is great for a nice light read and I am looking forward to reading more short stories in this series.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation, Gretchen returns with her witchy humour, a new cast of endearing characters and of course, a bouncy ride of a mis adventure.
The prose is picturesque without being wordy, reminiscent of the our beloved childhood fantasy stories, The premise is an interesting twist on the usual Medieval elements of chivalry: of knights, princes, dragonslaying and of course, witchcraft,
The short and breezy format really gives this Aussie series the feel of an unmissable cartoon show,
At SeasonEpisode, am already a fan!
This is the first episode in a humorous fantasy series and I'm delighted to report that it's every bit as much fun as it sounds.
I truly love the character of Gretchen, who is inept at spells and potions, but not by any means naive or stupid.
The secondary characters are fun, too, and P, A Mason takes the idea of a fairy tale retelling and runs with it in an original and engaging way,
This story reminded me irresistibly of Terry Pratchett's Discworld Witch books, The feel and the humour are delightfully similar, and while I would argue that no one can truly touch Pratchett when it comes to humorous fantasy, Gretchen can hold her head up high as a more than worthy addition to the genre.
I literally giggled aloud more than once, and this is very unusual for me,
I want to read all of Gretchen's forthcoming misadventures, and it's worth noting that there are lots of fun extras on the website sitelink com including examples of Gretchen's execrable poetry, followup stories to the main episodes, and articles about the Gretchenverse,
A great start, can't wait to read more, A little weird, A little funny, Enjoyed
This was the first book of yours that I have read and enjoyed and I am looking forward to your next book.
A new twist on happily ever after
The Damsel Gauntlet by P, A. Mason is a quirky and unexpected tale, much like the main character Gretchen, If youre looking for a light hearted fantasy, but one with plenty of detailed work building and good repartee between an eclectic cast, then this is a fabulous place to begin.
The start of a good series in the making, .
