reading/feelgood

Definitely one of my favorites in the Sweet Mountain High series: All the butterflies, all the swoons, plenty of teenage idiocy, lots of growing up and owning of mistakes, plus a satisfying happy end at least an excellent HFN despite some tough issues Mia, Jimmy, and their families are dealing with.
Sweet and short YA romance, Youve got fake dating, blackmail, and the classic bad boy/good girl duo, This is a YA romance book written from the point of view of two American highschool kids in alternating chapters, I couldnt be bothered to look up what the names for the school years translate to, but they are obviously teenagers, and I think that the boy Jimmy is a year or two older than the girl Mia.
Mia wants to be a reporter and is obsessed with getting a job on the “School Newspaper” do they even have those any more, The book aims for a kind of sweet timelessness, but slips slightly uncomfortably between what seems to be a physical paper and a blog, without ever committing to one or the other.
The author manages to create a feeling of an archetypal high school environment with minimal detail but without too many broadbrush stereotypes, The

exception is the introduction of the generic “mean girls” and their head, who for purposes mainly due to the need for an antagonist in the formula is also obsessed with the school paper and actively seeks to prevent Mia from getting involved.
Add to this a kindly mentor for each of the characters a mumsy teacher for Mia and his Pastor father of no particular denomination for Jimmy and both parties caught up in lies that you know will be revealed to clear the air at the end and you have all the beats of a SaveTheCat plot.

There are one or two slight tripups, for example, I was caught out and had to reread an emotionally critical scene near the end, breaking me out of the moment, because the author had buried a key bit of description.
Jimmy is making his big move to reconcile with Mia and brings with him two cups of his fathers special milkshake !, I missed the bit where he got them out of his car, and only noticed their presence when I read

“But when my eyes opened again, hed moved closer, his expression changing to something much more solemn.
He glanced down at the cups in his hands, hurt passing over his face”

For a moment, I thought this sweet YA romance had turned raunchy, but couldnt believe it so I had to go hunting back for the introduction of these “cups”.
The first time I didnt find them, and had to wait until they were explained, This is really quite a minor issue compared to some of the largely unedited stuff that I read, though,

The writing is certainly competent, and the reader is pulled along with the characters and the inevitable rollercoaster of their romance, There is no doubt from the start as to how it will end, but the fun is in travelling with them to get there, The book was such a quick, smooth read that it seemed shorter than itswords, Sure, it has a thousand or so of preview and “also by”, but the fact that I read it so quickly and easily is a good sign, Teens and hormones

I dont know why I keep reading these, They are totally like junk food, Fun but not good for us, Still, I think that some junk food books are exactly what we need, This is a YA romance, its cute, sometimes funny and a bit cliché, but thats exactly what I needed and expected,

I didnt connect to the characters that much and it felt forced at times, oooh this one was really well written for the classic fake dating story What a delightful book! I had so much fun reading this one, I thought I'd just skim through it but nope, I found myself enjoying every word, Mia appeared in the previous book and I kept hoping that there might be a story for her, I was excited to read her book, She's sharp witted and not afraid to be daring if it means she can follow her dreams, One problem she needs a boyfriend. Luckily she has a pretty easy solution, Blackmail Jimmy to be her boyfriend and she'll keep his secret,

Fake relationship stories are a favorite trope of mine, I find them humorous and sometimes I find myself anxiously anticipating the moment when it all falls apart, The reason for me anticipating the falling apart is because these two characters fix the lies they've been perpetuating and come to recognize the truth that they really do care for each other.
That they want to do what's best for the other and they can't hide that truth anymore,

Mia and Jimmy dance around their feelings for each other for a little while and it made for some pretty cute scenes and funny moments, I really enjoyed when everything fell apart and watching these two teenagers stepping forward to fix it and admit fault, I loved seeing them realize that the consequences and the truth were better than the guilt and the lies, Not necessarily always easier but better and more freeing,

I thought they were a very cute couple, especially when they were coming to recognize the other person more and truly seeing them, Cute, cute, cute!

Another fun book in this series for YA lovers, And another one my teens will enjoy as well!

Content: Clean, There is mention of parties and teenage drinking, I don't agree with teen drinking and don't want to promote that but thought that the author wrote it in a non detailed way,

I received a copy from the publisher, All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own,

Happy Reading!!!,
