Read this to my kindergarteners at Christmastime they LOVE it! Very sweet message, and good for discussion starter about doing things for others, I just ignored the facts at the bottom of the pages, but I think if you were reading oneonone with a child it would be nice to go back and look at the facts after you were done

reading it.
The story is good a secular Christmas story that celebrates the simple joy of doing something nice for others, What I'm really impressed with, though, is the bottom information bar that presents simple, interesting scientific facts about various story elements written or illustrated throughout the story that even younger kids can understand.
It's something new and different every page, I wish more children's books offered this, I liked the facts interspersed with the story though sometimes it was kind of hard to figure out why that particular fact was put on that page it's a bit random.
Also, it distracts from the story to read the facts alongside the text, I would recommend reading the story through once, and then going back and reading the facts on the bottoms of the pages, This is an entertaining story about two friends finding and decorating the perfect Christmas tree, The ending is sweet, although a bit predictable, The little notes at the bottom of each page are very informative and help explain some of the scientific principles that affect different parts of the story, The explanations are simple and interesting,

Overall, I love the ecologically friendly message of the tale and the way that the decorations were helpful to others, The illustrations are colorful and the story is engaging, Our girls read this book aloud to each other while I listened I mean dozed off, I read it again this morning and found it to be a nice story, Doug Cushman has illustrated thanchildrens books,or so of which he has also written, Among his many honors, Doug has gained a place on the New York Times Childrens Best Sellers list and on theChildrens Literature Choice list, He has received a National Cartoonists Society Reuben award and aChristopher Award for his book illustrations, .
