Gather King In Black: Return Of The Valkyries Developed By Jason Aaron Contained In Copy
One common theme through every story in Jane's comics is grief and loss and this one doesn't disappoint either, I really enjoyed it. The scene with Jane and her son absolutely broke my heart, No entiendo cómo éste cómic no tiene mejor puntuación, Me ha parecido una maravilla, estrelas Fine tie in about life abs death, And it ties into King in Black well as a side mission,.Stars
Not my favorite tie in, Too metaphysical and wordy for me, I
think it does at least play a part in the King in Black storyline,
I assume we'll see just how big of a part the Valkyries play in things once King in Black wraps up, but to me this felt like it could have been skipped.
This one was actually pretty good by comparison to the others, There was a touching moment in it along with multiple worlds/ planes of existence, Theres some nice battle scenes, This one's fairly inessential to the overall King in Black storyline, but it's a good book for fans of Jane Foster/Valkyries/Aaron's work on Asgardian stuff.
It's a little clunky, but it has good heart and some fantastic moments, Jane Foster heads into the afterlife in a bid to cut off the King In Black's power at its source, running into a longlost and familiar looking valkyrie along the way.
The problem with this miniseries is that it relies too much on melodramatic description boxes rather than actually showing us all the cool stuff that the Valkyries are doing.
There's a good idea in here somewhere, but it's overwritten to the point that I was losing interest midway through and just reading the actual dialogue.
Nina Vakueva's artwork's pretty good, although the fact that most of the action takes place in a formless white void doesn't really give her very much to do in the later issues.
Aaron and Gronbekk's Valkyrie stuff that preceded this was far better, I'm not sure if it's the King In Blackness of it that derailed this volume or not, but I hope the followup can recover.
I really liked this book more than I thought I would, These are not my favourite group of characters or my favourite artwork, but stories about redemption and overcoming not just incredible odds but your own inner demons is what always make a hero or heroines in this case for me.
The Earth is in big trouble, the world has all but bee conquered, The most powerful hero has fallen, and us about to recive his eternal reward, What can the last of the Vakyries hope to achieve With the help of her forgotten, and dead sister there might be a chance, but will even that be enough
A great story for me carried this book to five I hope the other King in Black books are as good.
Can't wait to see what happens next, The book also contains a varient cover gallery, a sketch book and even a short backup story, This is as much a continuation of the Jane Foster: Valkyrie series as it is a King in Black tiein, and its all the better for that.
Lots of action, some nice character moments and even a few laughs along the way.
The artwork was pretty great, too, Nina Vakueva has a really expressive brush and a great sense of composition, I love the Sienkiewicz influence, particularly on the scenes featuring Dani Moonstar,
One thing confused me a little, though, and thats the introduction of the new, as yet nameless, black Valkyrie, Id chalk it up to them feeling they have to introduce the movie versin of Valkyrie for the benefit of MCU noobs but theyve already introduced her in Exiles.
Im happy to see where theyre going with the character but it does feel a bit like the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing.
Anyway, this book has really whet my appetite for the new Valkyrie book,
My next book: sitelinkBilly Summers Astar book but the art is exquisite,.
A disjointed mess of a story, Once there was an entire army of Valkyries, but now Jane Foster is the only one, And when Knull and his symbiote horrors come to Earth, all Jane sees when she looks at our big blue planetis a vision of death.
To help stop the King in Black, Jane must rebuild the Valkyries starting with Hildegarde, a warrior from Asgards hallowed halls, and the XMan Dani Moonstar, a former Valkyrie herself.
But what Jane doesnt knowis that she never was the only Valkyrie after all! Who is the fourth warrior Meanwhile, unknown to Jane, Knulls power has spread across the galaxy and infected creatures even older than the godsand it may not matter how many Valkyries Jane can bring to their aid!
COLLECTING: King In Black: Return of the ValkyriesI didn't like this at all and the story seemed confusing.
It didn't really add to the overall King in Black story,
Pass this one by, King in Black is just the stage this miniseries plays out on, Really, it's a bridge between Jane Foster's now cancelled book and the upcoming Valkyries book, A vague knowledge of who and what Knull is won't hurt, but you'll be incredibly lost if you hadn't been reading Jane's book.
I think this will be of minimal interest to anybody who wasn't reading that book anyways, There are some quite effective character moments in here, particularly a scene with Jane and her deceased son, and Sentry did deserve a more extended send off than the hurried exit the main event book gave him.
A story trying to reconcile the 'Jane Foster as last Valkyrie' status quo from her shortlived solo series with various other characters of that name/rank, like the original Defenders one, Dani Moonstar, and a longlost one who maps on to the excellent Tessa Thompson iteration from the MCU, and get them all back into play.
But which is also having to fit itself around dreadful symbiote crossover King In Black, doing best when there's least direct interaction I was particularly peeved to learn the event had kicked off by having the Sentry ripped in half by way of a 'Yah boo sucks' to him killing Carnage back in New Avengers.
I mean yes, they're both terrible characters, but the Sentry still deserved better than Carnage, because pretty much by definition every Marvel character deserves better than Carnage, the tedious psycho twat.
More of an immediate problem is that Alabama's Jason Aaron and Norway's Torun Gronbekk still haven't got the knack of the Yorkshire speech pattern which departed cowriter Al Ewing bestowed on Jane's nononsense flying steed Mr Horse: I suppose "Not without ye, lass" could just about be excused as him taking a respectful tone, but I'm unconvinced he'd be that deferential to anyone, even Jane.
Not that her dialogue is flawless either: "Dying is new to everyone" is not in itself a daft thing for a psychopomp to say, but in a superhero universe, where we mainly see her guiding souls who've been dead and got better at least once before Still, in among all the Knull bollocks, there some good cosmic stuff here, and some lovely camaraderie among the various Valkyries, even if it remains to be seen whether it'll get chance to go anywhere.
.Stars.
A King in Black tiein that strongly doesn't focus on Knull, . . a breath of fresh air,
It's pretty straight forward though, Jane Foster is the only Valkyrie currently alive, but she knows she needs help, so she sets out to rebuild the force.
Recruited are Hildegarde an Asgardian nonValkyrie warrior, Dani Moonstar a mutant with psychic powers who used to be a Valkyrie, and Runa one of the first ever Valkyries who has been trapped inside the corpse of a Celestial for a very long time, given an appearance very close to Tessa Thompson's version of Valkyrie in the films.
Working together to sever the connection of power between Knull's Necrosword and the Celestial's corpse, it ultimately takes Runa reclaiming Jarnbjorn the axe that Thor used when he was "unworthy" of Mjolnir and the Valkyries returning from Valhalla to assist.
Good read, but not vital to the overarching story,
Recommend . but only for completionists. Best is that you read the main event and know what has happened in the venomstoryline the origin of the head of Knowhere featured frequently in guardians of the galaxy and also know what happened in the mighty thor and the war of the realms.

Difficult comic which cannot stand on its own, Read only if you follow the Jane Foster storyline and this comic sets the stage for the new Mighty Valkyries series which will be bundled as paperbackin October.
Great division of quests and tasks, The Three T's: Advice for fighting dragons, This was excellent I loved the Jane Foster Valkyrie series so much and it took me so long to understand the next volume wasnt coming out because it got canceled.
So it being continued as a tiein to an allpenetrating comic book event extravaganza like King in Black is not ideal, but dammed if it didnt work out pretty well.
Happy to read the continuing adventures of Jane Foster, long may she Valkyrie about, A histórias de Jane Foster como Thor eram sensacionais, As histórias de Jane Foster como Valquíria começaram bem, mas jpa no segundo volume davam sinais de cansaço.
. Not much actually happens in this one but I adore seeing all the Valkyries very much,
